It Was All For You

Trigger Warning: “It Was All For You” is a darker poem and if that’s unsettling for you please don’t read further.

I fell to the ground

Shattering myself into a million pieces

Just so you would notice me

I cut my arms and legs

Bleeding out

Just so you would notice me

I ripped out my hair

And picked at my skin

Just so you would notice me

And plucked out my eyes

Laying them at your feet

Just so you would notice me

I ripped out my heart from my chest

Offering it to you

And yet it was never enough

For you

About “It Was All For You”:

I’ve been watching You and that is sort of what inspired this poem. For those of you that are familiar with the show, you know that the protagonist is an awful person but in his mind he’s the “good guy.” In his mind, he does everything because of love and yet no one is thankful or appreciative of it. And I wanted to write this poem from his POV, showing how he believes he did everything for the people he loved and yet was never appreciated. This is how narcissists and psychopaths think, they’re always the victim, they’re always the ones going above and beyond for others.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the poem. Do you watch You? Have you finished the last season? What did you think of the poem? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Strong poem Pooja and I’m sure very relatable for many.

    1. Thank you so much.

  2. This was sooooo good! It’s one of my personal favorites from you no doubt! I loved how dark this was! 😍👍

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!

      1. You’re very welcome as always of course! 😁💕

  3. I do not watch You and now, I know I will not watch it.

The poem is thought-provoking and heavy. It really made me feel what was being said.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, if you don’t like protagonists that are bad people I would definitely avoid this show.

      1. Yup. I don’t feel like getting angry anytime soon. LOL. And you’re welcome!

  4. I think it’s a beautiful poem, a deep realization and a confession that you really want to please, repeating “it’s all for you” it’s like seeing your value in the ability to do so. I can relate to this, I also want to give up this habit, it doesn’t serve me. You can’t please everyone, so do something to please yourself, write something for your Self. Cook something for yourself, go for a walk with your precious self, because you deserve it.

    1. Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the poem. True, it’s impossible to please everyone, it’s better to put your own happiness first.

  5. Powerful!!! You captured our attention for sure!

    1. Thank you so much!

  6. “The Art of Subtlety: A Memoir (by Someone Who’s Never Heard of It)”

Wow. That’s one way to send a message. Most people just ghost or write vague social media posts, but you? You went full performance art with a side of self-sacrifice, like a Shakespearean character who accidentally stumbled into a My Chemical Romance album.

The effort is undeniable. The symbolism? Chef’s kiss. Hair, skin, organs—who needs a bouquet when you can present your circulatory system like a contestant on The Bachelor: Gothic Edition?

But here’s the twist: maybe, just maybe, the person you’re trying to impress doesn’t deserve the opera of your pain. Maybe the real plot twist isn’t “Why won’t they notice me?” but “Why am I auditioning for someone who doesn’t even have a ticket to the show?”

Still, points for drama. The theatre kids are weeping. The poets are taking notes. The medics… are deeply concerned.

    1. Thank you so much. I’m so glad you enjoyed the poem. Haha yeah it had my inner emo coming out for sure. With the poem, I also wanted to show how one persons perspective doesn’t tell the real story which is a vital part of the show that inspired this poem. We hear someone talk about all the things they’ve done for others but how much of that is actually true.

  7. Honestly? This piece is raw, haunting, and emotionally intense. It’s a visceral portrayal of pain and longing—an almost mythic expression of self-destruction in the name of love or recognition. The repetition drives home the desperation, and the imagery is deliberately graphic, evoking both sympathy and discomfort. That’s powerful writing.

    1. Thank you again. I’m so glad you thought so.

  8. The series ‘YOU’ has to be one among those damaging stories on Netflix. I watched one series n i was done.

    1. Yeah, it’s pretty dark and based on a book series.

  9. They are always the victim – absolutely!
In their deluded mind state there can only be ‘one’. Of this they are, for the most part, unaware; believing, as you’ve said, that they are doing all for others – well, most of the time. At other times they are revengeful, hurtful monsters bent on hurting others. What a crazy personality!
No I haven’t watched ‘You’; though I do think you’ve done a marvellous job typifying the narcissist.

    1. Yes, exactly! They’re always the victims, they’re always the ones that are apparently doing so much for others even though they claim no one does anything for them. It’s so confusing being around them because narcissists are extremely unstable and unable to process emotions properly. You basically end up walking on eggshells because you don’t know which version you’ll get.
      Thank you so much.

  10. I didn’t watch it.

It seems the warning was for me. I appreciate that!

I read the poem. You are able to effectively express it.

I would avoid getting much into details.

    Have a nice day!

    1. Thank you. I’m glad to hear that and have a nice day too!

      1. Pooja! Why we’re not writing humour based posts? Like all serious stuff these days.

        1. I’m not sure, maybe it’s just with everything going on in the world and our lives humour has taken a backseat.

  11. Yes, I think narcissism is a type of delusion. They think they are sacrificing themselves. They are the good ones, the smart ones, the geniuses and others are not grateful like they should be and are not fair to them. Interesting thoughts.

    1. Yeah, I think it’s like a mix of delusion and psychopathy. It’s fascinating to read about but not so fun to deal with it.

  12. I haven’t seen the movie “You.”

However, I can strongly resonate with your poem. Very deep and very well written.

    1. Thank you so much, glad the poem resonated.

  13. Nice 🙏🌹🕉

    Aum Shanti

  14. A dark but intriguing poem that reflects the reality of narcissist people. Well done, Pooja.

    1. Thank you so much.

      1. You’re welcome and Happy weekend.

        1. Happy weekend.

  15. Wow, Pooja… powerful and gritty. Great post 😎👏

    1. Thank you so much 😊

    🤍

    1. Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it 💗

      1. my pleasure 🤍

  18. I loved this. ✨
I can totally see Joe writing this poem. It is very him.

    1. Thank you, haha yeah I had to channel my inner Joe 😅

  19. A darker one!!

    1. Thank you!

  20. Wow, what a powerful poem! It really speaks to the reader; the words leap off the page. Amazing! 😊💜

    1. Thank you so much! So glad you liked the poem 😊💗

  21. Whoa! Pooja, this is a mind-stirring and brilliantly written dark poem. Well done! 🖤

    1. Thank you so much! 😊

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  22. You. I just started watching yesterday. Only done with season 1, episode 1. I slept while watching episode 2. Now I want to hurry and watch it. Must be interesting considering that your interesting poem was inspired by that.

    1. It’s so good, I think the first season was the best one. You’ll love it if you like dark shows.

      1. I’m definitely making time to continue

  23. I have not watched YOU… but you have never led me wrong with a recommendation. I enjoyed this poem, as I do enjoy the dark stuff.
Gonna add YOU to my watch list.

    1. Thanks so much. If you enjoy darker shows you will absolutely love this one, especially the first two seasons.

      1. I’ve added it.

  24. I haven’t watched that show, Pooja, but your poem is definitely dark but powerful, and I’m sure many would find it relatable. ❤️

    1. Thank you so much. Have a lovely weekend ❤️

  25. I started watching You a few years ago but then I got distracted. It’s so cool it inspired you to write this poem! I love it when you find inspiration where you least expect it 😊✨️

    1. Thank you, haha so true sometimes we get inspired by random stuff! You is great but I totally get that, when shows take a break we get distracted and forget about them. I only started watching it again and catching up last year 💗

  26. Yep that’s dark enough to challenge the imagination.

    1. Thanks so much, sometimes I like to try that.

  27. I have not seen the show, but wow, the power in this poem! How many times do we destroy ourselves just to become what we think someone else wants?

    1. Thank you! Absolutely, we do everything for someone else including changing ourselves but it’s never enough. We can’t possibly please everyone. That’s why it’s so important to live for ourselves.

  28. Nice poem. This is one for your next book “Dark Dreams” Also I’m a firm believer in shattering yourself into a million pieces. It’s the only way to bild yourself into what you want, and need to be. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Thanks so much. Ooh maybe so, that would be a great name for a poetry collection. That makes a lot of sense, sometimes we have to break to build ourselves back up 😊

  29. This is a beautiful poem Pooja!

    1. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

      1. You’re welcome!

  30. It’s a good, troubling poem, which I think means it is also successful. I’m not familiar with YOU except as you’ve described the program. I am reminded, though, of recent movies that I’ve seen depicting deceptive, narcissistic men who believe they deserve sympathy as they deserve followers. Creepy, revealing, needful work by all of you creators.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I think narcissism is a lot more popular these days i.e talked about more online and in movies/shows/books. I think the main way to spot a narcissist is when they’re always a victim in their stories.

  31. A very strongly worded poem.

    1. Thanks, it came out much darker than I expected.

      1. Sometimes the writing takes a direction of its own.

  32. This is exactly what’s happening with me right now.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that, stay strong and protect yourself.
