An Insomniacs Paradise

Overcoming Having Been Othered | An Insomniacs Paradise

The quiet of the night

Sends a tingle down my spine

So silent and peaceful

I’m in a serene state of mind

I take it all in

Deep breaths

My head resting against the pillow

Picturing the life I want

In my pajamas

Enveloped in the warmth of my blanket

I experience

An insomniacs paradise.

About An Insomniacs Paradise:

I’ve been trying to go to bed a little earlier these days and get my life together. And one thing I miss about going to bed later is the peaceful quiet of the night. No one around, no noise. Just me and my thoughts. It’s a lot of fun and it sucks that I can’t just live my life the other way around doing everything at night and sleeping during the day lol.

Another thing that draws me in as a night owl is that I can write really well at night because there are little to no distractions. If you’re writer you’ll understand what I mean when I say that the slightest distraction can make you lose your train of thought. Once your concentration is broken it’s never really the same.

So, missing my quiet little insomniacs paradise is what inspired this poem.

  1. A very intimate and serene poem. You convey with great clarity that nocturnal calm that only appears when the world shuts down and thoughts fall silent. The image of insomnia as a “paradise” feels close and honest, especially for those of us who find in the night the best space to write and think without interruption.

    1. Thank you so much. Really appreciate your lovely comment.

      1. you’re welcome, I enjoyed reading what you wrote.

  2. I honestly love both. I love being the only one up watching the sunrise, but I also love being alone with my thoughts in the still of the night.

    1. That’s totally fair, I think both offer us something wonderful.

  3. I suppose you could slowly train your body and sleep cycle to do as you described, Pooja, lots of people work the night shift. The poem sounds idyllic. You would do well in my situation, living by myself and enjoying the peace and quiet. I hope you can find that quiet that you want and need. 🥰

    1. Yeah, I’m trying to do that and figure out how to wake up earlier. I would LOVE to live by myself, fingers crossed it’ll happen for me soon. Thank you so much 😊❤️

      1. More men and women are choosing this lifestyle today, Pooja, I hope can get your own place. 🙏🏻😊

        1. Yes, I’ve noticed that and think it’s a great option for people who prefer their own company. Thank you, I hope I can in my thirties as I’m saving as much as I can right now 😊

          1. You’re welcome Pooja. I wish Incould help you! I definitely prefer my own company, have for a long time.

            1. That’s so sweet of you to say but your encouraging comments are helpful too!

              1. You are welcome Pooja. 🤗

  4. loved reading your poem! it was so intimate and honest.

I’m definitely a night owl, mornings and I don’t get along, hahaha

    1. Thank you so much! Lol I’m glad you can relate.

  5. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to sleep at all, but I also like sleeping.

    1. Same here, I love sleeping but love staying awake too.

  6. Great poem, late nights are more peaceful or seem that way

    1. Yes, they do often seem that way.

This is truly wonderful P.J. I love how peaceful and vivid your night thoughts feel in this poem.

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the poem.

  8. “If you’re writer you’ll understand what I mean when I say that the slightest distraction can make you lose your train of thought. ” I can certainly undestand that and Jack Torrence in the Shining made that abundantly clear when his wife interupted his train of thought. Sorry for bringing up a horror movie but I thought it was funny, but it is certainly reality. Anaway I am a night owl too.

    1. Lol I remember reading the book as a teenager and being terrified but now I’m thinking he’s a little relatable 😅

  9. I found the poem a perfect expression of the joy of bed when tired.

    1. Thank you so much.

  10. Thankfully, I get loads of peaceful moments and time to write. But, yes… the slightest distraction can break one’s train of thought and creative flow.

I’m an early bird during the week, and a night owl during the weekends.

I like this poem. It’s clean, succinct, has great line breaks, and a relatable topic.

    1. That’s awesome, I’m glad you do and yeah definitely. Thanks so much!

      1. You’re most welcome!

  11. Happy New Year, Pooja.

    1. Happy New Year, have a lovely 2026.

  14. I liked your poem. I identify with the night owls. I have been trying to shift my body clock to waking up earlier because for some strange reason the local world will not operate on my timeline, lol.

    1. Thanks so much. Lol if only it would.

  15. I really enjoyed your poem! You capture the quiet magic of the night so vividly the stillness, the focus, and the little joys of being a night owl.
I can totally relate to how distraction can break the flow of writing. Thank you for sharing your insomniac’s paradise!

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you could also relate!

  16. Oh, I’m definitely a morning person, I’m usually up at 4 and write the quiet hours with my coffee and snoring critters.

    1. Oh wow, that’s amazing. I’m sometimes up at 4am too but for the opposite reason lol.

  17. Very nice poem. Something I don’t understand. If you’re at your best at night. Why are you even considering early bedtime?? YES figure things out, but don’t eliminate your self in the process. 🤣😎🙃

    1. I know what you mean but I’ve been feeling exhausted and not great because of sleeping too late which is why I’m trying to change 😭

Lovely poem. Have you tried relaxation exercises to fall asleep? I’m sure you probably tried everything.

    1. Thanks so much. I’ve tried some but haven’t found them particularly helpful.

  19. >the fact that I relate to everything written in this post. Nothing beats the night thinking and writing and the peace that comes with the night.

    1. I think a lot of us writers tend to be night owls. It’s just so serene and peaceful.

  20. I loved the poem and can totally relate while I’m clicking away when I should be sleeping. lol. 😂
Love the peace and joy you expressed!
    ❤️♥️❤️

    1. Haha thank you so much! I know you’re up all hours of the night like me too 😅❤️

      1. 2 night owls sharing the planet and soul mates of such.. xx

  21. Like for real! It’s a literal paradise! Night time is when everything truly feels just right! Everyone else is off to sleep, while we get to feel that peace and calm that few people understand how healing it is to the mind and soul! It’s truly special indeed! 🌙

    1. Yup, it’s so calm and quiet I literally love it!

  22. When I was younger, I was a night owl, however, I also had to get up early to go to work. I could survive with only a few hours sleep, but now that I am older, I rise at 4:30 AM and go to bed around 9 PM.
I like to get up early when hubby, and the cat are still sleeping so there are no distractions.

    1. Yeah, I think as we get older our body changes and we need more rest. That’s fair, at least you have those few hours to yourself in the morning.

  23. I’m a morning person and early morning offers the same serenity and quietness.

    1. That’s true, if we wake up early enough it’s quite peaceful.

      1. I love that alone time.

  24. I’m definitely a night owl! I am also a bad insomniac! Lol! This poem was so relatable Pooj! X

    1. Lol same here! Thank you! 😊

  25. I used to love working nights, it’s pretty cool to be alone and happy. Night offers privacy that the day lacks, your subconscious is more active and alive than your conscious self.

    1. Yes, exactly. It’s just you and your thoughts at night and it’s fun to have no distractions.

  26. Ahhh I feel you Pooja…I am more creative at night but also more meditative:) Lovely description of this paradise!

    1. Same here and thanks so much!

  27. Insomniac paradise! An uncomfortable comfort

    1. Yes, exactly!

  28. I often experience insomnia. Your post made me realize that I should accept it as a serene and quiet moment than a moment of anxiety and confusion. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yeah, make the best of it. As someone that also deals with insomnia, I feel not all of us were meant to be morning people.

  29. I love the night, so peaceful and kind. But for a family, a school run. The wakeful night becomes my guilty pleasure, reserved for the weekend! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

    1. That’s totally fair, it can be a weekend treat. Thank you!

  30. Yes, I think I can relate. I think well at night when there are no distractions. When I used to go on retreat, I would write a lot late at night. Your poem is a forthright narrative I find engaging. Well done, if I may say.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, there’s something about the quiet night that gets our creative juices flowing.

  31. I often write late into the night. You can get a flow going.

    1. Yeah, I do that too. It’s just so much easier without the distractions of the day.

  32. From one insomniac to another, I truly enjoyed your poem.
I also agree that the lack of distractions helps me to focus on writing.

    1. So glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much.

  33. I’m more of a morning person myself, yet I do find it easier to write later in the night without as many distractions. Taken a few short breathes in and out really helps my mind to focus and distract myself from those pesky distractions when they appear. I enjoyed this poem 🙂

    1. Yeah, I think there’s just something about the quiet of the night. Deep breaths definitely help with bringing our attention back. Thanks so much. 🙂

  34. I love writing at night too!! Nights can be so cosy ✨️ I get so frustrated with myself when I forget things 🤣

    1. Yesss same here, once I forget something it’s usually gone forever 😭

  35. Great post. I like the solitude of nighttime, but usually just choose to take in a small period of it, to keep my internal clock on “day shift,” otherwise I’m not as productive or balanced the next day.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I’m having that problem of not being productive during the day which is why I’m trying to sleep a bit earlier. Not super early but a little earlier.

  36. A few deep breaths help me tune out distractions. I really loved this poem.

    1. Yeah, deep breaths definitely help. Thanks so much.

  37. Wonderful poem, Pooja. Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well!

      1. Thank you. 🙏🏼

        1. You’re most welcome 🙏

  38. Your clarity of thought is evident throughout this piece.

    1. Thank you so much.

  39. A sleepless night full of thoughts , nice creation

    1. Thank you so much.

  40. Always been a night owl too and for the same reasons … Trying to visualize what “time” looks and feels like being able to write / think / process without distractions aaaannnd I lost it (got distracted)! 😉 I hope your dreams show you the way ~ <3 A beautiful poetic paradise in poetry!

    1. Lol that little distraction can ruin it all 😅 Thank you!!

      1. It can … daily / hourly / right this minute (lol)!

  41. Pooja, you convey such a sense of serenity in your beautiful poem – I’m taken with the joy and peace as you embrace the sleepless hours for creativity. No wonder you miss the richness of the silence. Disturbances, when writing always, ensure my thoughts and creativity disappear into the ether, and I feel myself clamouring internally to retrieve them. I hope your new sleep schedule settles down soon and that you find a way for quiet creativity.

    1. Thank you so much, this is truly such a lovely comment to receive. Yes, those pesky disturbances tend to derail us writers and I often don’t get my train of thought back. Thank you, so far so good.

  43. I’m a morning person, but not by choice. I teach. Having to get up early for work has demanded that.

By the way, I really like the way you present your poem and then give a brief explanation behind the motivation/inspiration of it.

    1. That’s totally fair, I think work is the main reason a lot of us night owls end up waking up earlier.
Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked it.

  44. Dreaming is a step towards reality. Hugs to you, sweet Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much, hugs.

  45. I loved your poem. And can relate to the calm and peace needed in writing.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I love the quiet, peaceful night when writing.

  46. Ahh you describe that late-night paradise so well where insomniacs of all kinds, poets and writers and video makers burn the night oil lost in the bliss of the quiet night…Wonderful Pooja!

    1. Yes, us creatives really do love the quiet of the night. Thank you!
