Introduction
Since it’s going to be 2016 soon I thought that I would start it positively and try to achieve some of my goals. This year I realized even though I turned eighteen I haven’t really achieved everything I thought I would by the time I’m an adult. For 2016 I felt like I really want to try new things and have some fun before I start university. So I decided to share some things I’m planning to do this year so maybe you guys can do it too and bring positivity to your lives in the coming year.
Get a jar
I actually read about this on the internet and thought it was an amazing idea. So you get a jar (preferably large) and you decorate it however you like (there are some pretty cool ideas online) and then every time something positive happens in your life you write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. This is a great way to store your memories. At the end of 2016 you open the jar and read all the great things that happened that year. This idea really appealed to me because I guess we all have times when we don’t feel very happy and going through this jar may be the perfect way to cheer yourself up.
Plus, no one can remember everything that happens and when I was thinking about the things that happened in 2015 I realized I had actually forgotten some things and with this jar I won’t forget all the great things that will happen in 2016.
Get a journal
So obviously I love writing but I’m not a fan of talking and I find it very hard to express myself verbally and that’s why I have always kept a journal where I can write about things I’m going through and how I feel about them. This year will be no different. I plan on writing about everything that goes on so I can read through it at the end of the year. I know it sounds kind of cliché and corny but it’s actually great to read about your experiences and how much you have learnt and grown. Plus, you can someday pass it on to your kids or someone you care about (or publish it and make some cash!).
Make a list
Make a list at the beginning of the year of all the things you hope to achieve in that year. You can write about things like what grades you want if you are in school/university or you can write about some work goals or relationship goals you hope to achieve. You can pretty much write about anything and everything you want to do that year. Then stick the list somewhere you will see it every day. I’m planning to stick mine above my bed so I can see it every morning when I wake up and every night before I sleep. This way you will always remember the things you hope to do and it will be a kind of motivation for you to do it.
Say “thank you”
This year you need to be grateful for everything and everyone you have in your life. Write a list of people who mean a lot to you and simply thank each one of them for being in your life. Tell them what they mean to you and how much you appreciate everything they have done and are doing for you. This year make sure you don’t have any regrets and live each day like it’s your last and treat everyone like they deserve.
On the other hand try to cut out everyone in your life who is bringing negativity to you. You do not need people like that in your life. If there is someone who is trying to hold you back, make you feel bad about yourself, put you down- cut them out. Don’t let them hurt you anymore and don’t let them control your life anymore. A new year means a new start and trust me you can’t start afresh with people like that around.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – C.S. Lewis

This is a lovely compilation of things to do! It is important to remember the great things in life, and I think your list shows how this can be done. Thank you 🙂
