“No, please where are you takin g my husband? What is all this even about?” I yelled at the police officer arresting my husband.
“Ma’am, did you know husband was having an affair with someone called Anna Kipper?”
I stood there looking stunned. “What? No… No… That can’t be,” I whispered.
“We have pictures and DNA evidence. He was also the last person seen with her and they were seen arguing by multiple witnesses.”
“I… can’t believe this is happening to me…” I sobbed.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry but he is our prime suspect at this time and we need to take him in for questioning.”
“I’m so sorry, Jess. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I cheated BUT I DIDN’T DO IT!…” Jack, yelled as they took him away.
“What happened to this woman? Do you know what’s going on?” I asked the detective still standing at my doorstep.
“Yes, she died of multiple stab wounds some time after witnesses saw her and your husband fighting at a restaurant,” explained the detective.
“He told me he had a work meeting…” I said more to myself than anyone.
“I’m so sorry about your situation, I know this can’t be easy.”
“If my husband did do what you’re accusing him off, I just want to help in any way possible… it’s like I don’t even know him…” I told the detective.
“Thank you, we appreciate your cooperation.” said the detective. With that he nodded and walked to his car.
I went back into the house, I could already see some neighbours spying from their windows. Always so damn nosy. I wipe the tears off my face and sigh. One part of the act is officially over. As if Jack could ever be smart enough to pull off a murder. I had planned Anna’s murder for weeks. And before you go feeling bad for her, she was fully aware that Jack was married and had actively been trying to get him to leave me. And he actually seemed to be falling for it. I couldn’t have that. I couldn’t have people thinking I was divorced.
That night I had followed them and overheard their argument at the restaurant. She wanted him to leave me and he said he was working on it. Apparently she was getting impatient. I knew that if I was going to do this, it had to be tonight. While my husband went back to his office to cool off, I followed Anna home, snuck in and… well you know the rest. I made sure to use a knife with my husbands print on it. I had carefully saved it from the night he made our anniversary dinner. That’s seven years I’ll never get back.
Now all I had to do was play the perfect victim. The innocent wife who knew nothing about her husband’s affair. Everyone loves a good victim. The media is going to eat it up.
I smiled as I grabbed a celebratory glass of champagne and headed to bed. For the first time in a long time, I would be sleeping like a baby.
I hope you guys enjoyed this short story, “Happily Never After”. To be honest, I didn’t have a post today so I decided to write a short story since those don’t take too much time. And since it’s Halloween it had to be Halloween themed of course! Because I love murder mystery books with a twist I wanted to write a short story with a similar theme. And “Happily Never After” just sort of came to me. Let me know in the comments below if you enjoyed it!
