Six Word Story #204

Six Word Story:

Your love- just a cockamamie excuse.

About This Six Word Story:

Cockamamie- ridiculous, pointless, or nonsensical. Source: cockamamie

I recently came across the word cockamamie for the first time and after laughing for. good fifteen minutes decided I quite liked it. Apparently, it is North American slang. Now, I’ve never heard it being used but that may be because I’ve spent most of my life in Kenya where we have a lot of our own slang. I don’t know if I used cockamamie correctly in this six word story since it’s my first time using it. But I think I used it correctly.

A few years ago I would share six word stories where I would use a word new to me. It’s a fun way to expand our vocabulary and get creative with it too. I may just bring that back.

Anyway, for the life of me I couldn’t think of what to post today. I just sat staring at my screen hoping the inspiration would come. And when it didn’t I started looking at words that were new to me and came across this gem. As I always say, SWS’s are best when you have nothing else to share. They’re just six words so it’s easier than creating a whole post from scratch. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it.

Share your own six word story or stories in the comments below using the word cockamamie or one that goes with this theme. Or just share a totally random SWS because I always love reading them.

  1. Is world peace a cockamamie idea?

    1. I don’t know about cockamamie but sometimes it feels impossible.

  2. You used it correctly Pooja!

    1. Oh good, I wasn’t too sure if I did!

      1. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  3. The word Cockamamie is one I’ve heard my entire life, Pooja. It pertains to something ridiculous like a bad idea or story and so on. Good post!

    1. Thanks! That’s so interesting. I guess it’s only used in certain areas but it’s cool to know that people do use it.

      1. 🤙🏻☺️☺️☺️

  4. How goofy love churns our realities.

  5. Aha
And this is your 204th time doing it
    Interesting.

When I was read your SWS I was like what is this? Where’s the rest of it? And she made a line with 6 words, how clever 😛
But then I didn’t know what to expect next from you, next day I read something else 🤷🏻‍♂️.
    Haha fun.

Your posts are definitely not Cockamamie 😍

    1. 204th is the charm 😉

Lol yeah, my blog is all over the place but I like it like that 😅

No but I can be very cockamamie sometimes 😁

      1. Well keep sharing 😝

  6. Cockamamie dance-off: flamingos twerk, penguins floss. 🕺🐧😜

    1. Haha love that six word story 😅

  7. It is a very funny word, and I’m glad you got such a laugh out of it! You should totally bring that old practice back about inserting new-to-you words in SWSs. And while you’re at it, why not also share some Kenyan slang (though we may need explanations!)!

    1. Probably the most fun word I’ve used in a while! Good idea, I’ll try some Kenyan slang words sometimes!

      1. I look forward to it! 😂

        1. You’ll sound like a Kenyan in no time 😅

  8. I love this word!

    1. Thanks so much!

  9. Since I’ve always been in North America I’ve been shocked to discover that a lot of slang words I’ve been using are not understood in UK or Europe. Even more shocking: I recently looked up a word that I’ve seen often but haven’t used myself, and in North America it has the opposite meaning to what it means in the rest of the world. It’s “nonplussed.”

    1. That’s so interesting, how would you define “nonplussed” because I want to know which version I learnt lol.

      1. North America (informal) — NOT disconcerted; unperturbed.
The rest of the world — yes perturbed: surprised and confused not knowing how to act.

        1. Yeah, I use the rest of the world meaning for it. Interesting how the same word can have a different meaning depending on where you live.

  10. I grew up hearing my dad use this word a lot. I’m pretty sure he still does whenever he goes off about politics 🙂

    1. That’s so interesting, it’s cool that people really do use the word in real life.

      1. Yeah, it wasn’t until I moved away from home that I realized not too many other people use it nowadays 😀

        1. I see, maybe it’s more common in some areas than others.

          1. My dad’s Canadian so that might play a part of it…

            1. Hmm, maybe. Is the word more common in Canada than the US?

              1. That, or it’s a generational thing.

                1. Maybe a mix of both.

  11. He said I’m unlovable; cockamamie excuse.

    1. Ooh great SWS, an interesting continuation to mine.

      1. Thank you! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

        1. You’re so welcome! 😊

    1. Haha thanks.

  14. Cockamamie world. Life in a twirl. What’s next? A hex? Bad karma, good karma. Options should be mindful.

    1. Ooh nice, life does seem like it’s in a twirl sometimes.

      1. Thank you, Pooja.

        1. You’re very welcome.

Loved your six word story. Your post made me laugh.

    1. Haha, thanks. Really liked your six word story too.

  20. I haven’t heard that word in a long time, but good job, Pooja.🌷

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  21. Never heard it used here.

    1. I think it’s most popular in North America.

  22. It’s ridiculous to ever love you.

    1. Love that six word story addition.

  23. Learned a new word
    Great six word story 🤍

    1. Thanks so much, glad to hear that 💖

  24. Now that’s a blast from the past. Can’t tell when the last time was that I heard that word 😊.

    1. This was my first time coming across it 😊

      1. It’s something we said in Jamaica all the time, but back then I always thought it was a word we made up like we always do 🤣.

        1. Well, it’s slang so technically it is made up 😅

  25. I haven’t heard or used this word for quite some time. Your use of it looks good to me. Here’s my innocent attempt: Writing with humor and cockamamie thoughts.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I think it’s not as popular anymore. Really like your six word story too. I write the same way lol.

  26. I love the word cockamamie! I think its’ dying out though because I rarely hear it

    1. Yeah, I think it’s more common with older generations.

  27. It was a word used by some adults while I was a child in England… (it was used in the context of being foolish eg. cockamamie idea) I don’t remember using it myself, or ever hearing it used here in Jamaica…!
    🇯🇲🏖️

    1. That’s so interesting. Another blogger said she heard it used growing up in Jamaica so maybe it depends on the region.

  28. I have heard that word used a bunch of times, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it written down. I completely support your efforts to use it.

    1. Thanks so much. I read it’s slang so many that’s why it’s more commonly said then written.

      1. You’re welcome!

That must be true. That said, I would like to see a conversation between a writer and his/her editor over the use of that word.

        1. Lol, that would be hilarious.

  29. […] mentioned in my last SWS post that I wanted to expand my vocabulary again and so I would be sharing stories with new words I […]
