Mistakes That Will Ruin Your Blog
Before we get into mistakes that will ruin your blog, I want to say that I know, I haven’t written an advice post in months. It may even be a year since I wrote my last one. Maybe more. To be honest, advice posts take a lot more time and effort for me since I have to do a lot of research myself as I don’t want to point anyone in the wrong direction by mistake. And that is why I’m sometimes reluctant to share blogging advice posts more often. But at the same time, I know these posts have been quite helpful to those hoping to grow their traffic and following. To this day, I get comments on my blogging advice posts thanking me for sharing the information. And many say that it actually helped them grow their site or blog which makes me so incredibly happy.
So, instead of taking a nap today I decided to work on a blogging advice post. Okay, I took a nap. BUT after that I watched TV for a while… But soon after (two hours later) I decided to start working on a blogging advice post. I went through older posts to see which ones were most popular which lets me know which ones were most helpful. And one of the posts that was quite popular was about blogging mistakes and so I thought I would share some more updated information about blogging mistakes that could ruin your blog.
I hope you find these tips helpful and if you have any questions or anything you would like me to clarify about the stuff I mentioned, do feel free to let me know in the comments below. I’ve tried to keep the post simple and not get too tech-y with it. I know a lot of us aren’t the most tech savvy and I want this to be understandable even for the general reader. Back to the post, here are some mistakes that could ruin your blog:
SEO
For those of you that are unfamiliar with SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimisation. You can learn more about it here.
SEO is very much a double edged sword. When you begin learning and properly implementing SEO friendly techniques into your blog posts, it can do wonders. It will help you get so much more traffic from search engines, especially over time. And if you are looking to make an income from your blog, it will help clients find your blog and reach out to you for paid partnerships or sponsored content.
However, SEO can also negatively impact your blog or site when implemented incorrectly. If you don’t fully understand what SEO is and what changes are necessary to make your site or blog as well as your content SEO friendly. When making changes, you may actually end up damaging your SEO and lowering your ranking with Search Engines. I always recommend doing ample amounts of research before making any changes. And if you have a Business Plan or another plan that has access to plugins for your blog, use plugins like Yoast SEO or AIOSEO to guide you with making changes on your posts.
If you are nervous about making the changes yourself, you can hire me to make them for you. I have multiple SEO focused services, you can read more about them here.

Buying Bots
One thing I tell all my clients and pretty much anyone that is willing to listen to me, please do not buy bot traffic or bot followers. I know it sounds like a great quick fix and an overnight way to get lots of traffic and followers. But it’s a very short term solution and will do more damage than good in the longterm.
Firstly, when you buy traffic, comments and/or followers, you don’t actually do much good for your site. Since all of these are bots, all that happens is that the algorithm thinks you’re popular for a while but soon figures out it’s bots and marks you as spam. Therefore, no longer pushing your content to actual readers.
Furthermore, you will not get any actual interaction so what exactly will be the point of sharing content? Many people buy followers, comments and traffic in the hopes that potential clients will see their stats and hire them. But most people that are hiring have become pretty clever now and can recognise bots when they see them. In fact, I have read multiple articles about how brands, sponsors etc have been preferring to hire micro influencers (10k to 100k followers) instead of bigger ones because their traffic is much more organic and they get better results with smaller influencers.
I know it’s hard to resist sometimes, especially now that WP has made it harder than ever to grow your blog but please reconsider if you’re thinking about buying bots instead of growing your blog organically.

Attitude
In all aspects of life, your attitude matters. And I think this is very much true when it comes to blogging as well. I’m not trying to brag or anything (I am) but I think one of the reasons that my blog grew quite quickly and I still get pretty good interaction on my posts despite being very inactive compared to a few years ago is because of my attitude. I try to respond to all the comments I get and be polite in my responses even if I don’t particularly agree with them. I’m not saying be a pushover, yes-man all the time. But don’t be rude. If you don’t like what someone is saying, you have the choice to ignore or even block them.
Also, if someone is taking the time to interact with your post it’s the right thing to do to respond to their comments especially if the comments are positive. WordPress is different from other social media platforms or even other blogging platforms. This is very much an interactive, vibrant community filled with all sorts of people. The best way to grow your blog is to interact and be as active as possible.
On the other hand, the best way to destroy your blog is to isolate yourself from others and not interact at all. Of course, if that’s what you prefer and don’t care about growing your blog then that’s totally up to you. You do you. I know a lot of people just blog as a hobby more than anything else. But if you are looking to grow your blog, you need to be active and polite. Don’t spam people, don’t troll people and don’t bully people.

I know the image says 5 blogging mistakes but I ran out of steam after three. And my hand is still recovering so I’m excused from that little blunder. Also a heads up, I hope to share weekly blogging posts again like I used to back in the day so if that’s something you find interesting or helpful do be on the lookout for those.
