A Silent Yearning

A Silent Yearning

Her heart yearns

For something more than this

Bound by the ordinary

She was anything but

Patiently waiting

For her prince

To come save her

The damsel sits

In her bedroom each night

Playing her violin

If only she had saved herself

She would already be free

About “A Silent Yearning”:

This poem is a response to fellow blogger, Kevin’s, No Theme Thursday prompt post for this week. He has some great picks this week but this image just stood out to me today. He has awesome NTT prompts every week, do check out his blog for more. I think he’s skipping NTT this week but he still has other awesome posts to read.

I think I barely posted this on time or maybe I was a little late, my apologies Kevin! But I really wanted to share this poem today. I loved this image as soon as I saw it, there was something beautiful yet sad about her. The poem is mainly about how so often we wait for the right person, thinking that they will make our lives better and save us from all our problems. When in reality, we can do that ourselves. Not always, but often.

Don’t get me wrong, the right person should improve your life. But no one can “save” you. Especially not from your fate. At least that’s what I think.

What did you think of “A Silent Yearning”? Do you believe in soulmates? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi.

  1. This is incredibly lovely! 😊 the image is definitely so beautiful, too

    1. Thank you so much, yesss Kevin creates the best images!

  2. Yes, you were a bit late. But luckily, I know the guy who runs the thing 😄

Very lovely, poem, Pooja. And you are correct – We need to rely on ourselves first and foremost.

    1. Haha it’s good to know people in higher places 😉 Thanks so much. Absolutely, we need to put ourselves first instead of waiting for someone else to do so.

    1. Indeed 😢

  3. So sad. I haven’t seen my soulmate in over 40 years, shes the one that got away. 😭

    1. Oh no, that’s so sad 😞

      1. Yes… 💕😭😭

  4. A gentle build up, then those last two lines! Ouch. 🙂

    1. Thanks, yeah I like sad endings I don’t know why 😢

  5. Very true, Pooja, and eloquently put.

    1. Thanks so much.

  6. It is a beautiful poem with a good message. My wife and I have been married for 33 years and it feels like it was meant to be. On the other hand it is not smart to sit around and wait for your prince / princess.

    1. Thank you. That’s so nice, 33 years is a lot. True, I think you can’t sit and wait your whole life. If it’s meant to be you’ll find someone but you can’t put your life on hold.

  7. poignant, Pooja…and those last two lines.. thought provoking 🤍💫

    1. Thank you so much 💕

      1. pleasure always 🤍💫

  8. … if only she had!! Nice one Pooja!!

    1. Thank you so much!

  9. I agree with you Pooj, nothing can save us from ourselves. It’s our personal homework, not a team assignment. Freedom is in our head, and some of us, yes, can have soulmates.

    1. Absolutely, we need to work on ourselves on our own. No one can magically make our problems disappear.

      1. Happy independence day!!! I made yellow curry and went to the Indian style disco music concert, it was pretty amazing, people danced and I did too a little bit. It’s such a good workout! If I could dance like this twice a week, I would have been in much better shape. Look at all those Indians and be jealous, haha

        1. That’s awesome! Haha this is your sign to try some Indian dancing each week.

          1. I am going to try Jewish folk dance tomorrow, and Indian is also on my list, I need to get ready to join, haha

            1. Oh fun, I’m sure you’ll have fun with those.

              1. fingers crossed

  11. Great poem.

The dictionary definition of a soul mate is someone who shares a deep connection based on mutual understanding and acceptance. Finding such a connection depends on the size of your social circle and whether those people share your beliefs and values. Some are lucky to find someone early in life, and others never come across such a person. Having said that, I know quite a few married couples who say their spouse drives them crazy sometimes because they are so different, but that helps make their relationship complement their life and ward off boredom. Or, more simply said, is the line from the movie Jerry Maguire that many women gush over, “You complete me.” 😊

    1. Thanks so much. I like the dictionary definition but what I see these days is people trying to find a “perfect” soulmate. I don’t think perfect exists. Sure, some people are better suited but that’s about it. No one is perfect.
That’s nice, if I ever end up with someone I would want them to be similar but not too similar. Being with someone a bit opposite does keep life interesting and also helps you grow as a person because you see things from a different POV.

    1. Thank you.

  12. You captured the image so well with your poem!

    1. Thanks so much!

    1. Thank you!

  13. lovely🌷, It’s so true that we often wait for someone else to come and save us, when we have the power to make changes ourselves.
Last lines really made me think👌

    1. Thanks so much 😊 That’s exactly it, we forget that we have the power to make the changes ourselves.

  14. Yes. You have to do it yourself.

    1. Absolutely!

  15. If my soulmate exist, i really want to experience life with him, but i wouldn’t want to wait on him to come save me lol

    1. Lol I feel the same way, it would be nice to spent your life with your soulmate but you can’t put your life on hold for them.

  16. this is so beautiful..💕

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  17. she is already free
    but with such intense misery
    sweet sour
    pays by the hour
    to talk about it
    it is
    the inner gupta
    hooah~

    1. Ah yes, paying to complain for an hour is no fun lol.

      1. why not>? carp on Gudka!

        1. The paying part is the annoying part lol.

          1. whose paying? not me.

  18. Excellent lines indeed…thanks.

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  19. Someone else might help but at the end, we have to trust ourselves to save us. That’s what I think.
    Beautiful poem 💙

    1. Yes, exactly. That’s what I think too. Thanks so much 😊

  20. I enjoy the poem, Pooja. When arrangements are difficult, especially repressive situations set by cultural expectations, it’s possible that someone will come to save the victims, though it’s unlikely. It seems that in the ultimate justice of things, we must make moves to rescue ourselves. I hope you’ve been having a truly pleasant week.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I think we have to fight to rescue ourselves because it’s unlikely someone will come save is. Thanks and hope you’re having a pleasant week too.

  21. An intriguing story Pooja. You write fiction well.

  25. Love it PG!

Why can’t she be a girl who’s preparing for the stage show 😝
    You made her damsel

    1. Thanks so much. Lol, it’s just that I can tell from her style that it’s old timey, back when women we’re allowed to do anything fun 😅

  26. BEAUTIFUL 💖🧡💚

  31. This poem is so lovely and the calmness adds to the beauty

    1. Thank you so much, very glad you enjoyed it.

  32. Dear Pooja, you are a lovely young woman, and you write lovely poetry–I’ve put your book on my Amazon list to purchase soon. I’m fascinated by “Zillenial”–I’ve not heard the term, but I’m 71 (old) and not familiar with a lot of trends/news outside my small world. Blessings to you for great success & more than that, peace and happiness.

    1. Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Yeah, I think Zillennial is a newer term and mostly on social media. Thanks so much for stopping by and wishing you peace and happiness too.

  33. Pooja I believe in soul mates but, agree with you no one can save you. I believe you have to be whole in order to attract your soul mate.

    1. Yes, that absolutely makes sense. If you’re not whole you won’t be happy with someone even if it’s your soulmate.

  34. I hope the prince likes violin music.

    1. Unfortunately, he prefers the piano…

      1. Well that sucks.

  35. Girl stop waiting and save yourself!!!!

    1. Exactly, more people need to take control of their own lives!

      1. Definitely!!!!

  36. Poem is so lovely very well written and ya completely agree with the fact at last its only you. You have to save yourself.

    1. Thank you so much, I think so too.

  37. I believe you can alter your situation, but I also believe everything around you shapes it as well. Enjoyed the poem! Take care Pooja!

    1. That’s very true and thank you so much!
