How I Manage Life With Blogging

photo of woman lying on bed while using laptop | It's Been A Busy Day | How I Manage Life With Blogging

Many moons ago, I wrote this post and was asked to write a post about how I manage life with blogging by fellow blogger Devang from FGW. And now, after all this time I’ve finally responded lol. Actually, I had this post sort of ready but forgot about it. A couple of days ago I was going through my MANY drafts and thought I would finally share it. So, after all this time here is how I manage life with blogging and how you can too:

Schedules

When it comes to balancing life, work, and blogging schedules are your best friend. Did you know that you can schedule posts ahead of time on WordPress instead of posting them manually? Some of you that are familiar with the features offered on WordPress may be aware of this but for those of you that are new this may not be something you know about. The scheduling feature comes in handy often for me. There are days when I know I’ll have more work or more stuff going on in my life in general and on those days I like to keep posts scheduled and ready to publish.

Scheduling things in advance saves a lot of time and effort for us bloggers. So on days you’re lounging around wondering what to do with the next few hours, write a post and keep it ready. Future you that’s super busy will be thankful.

Boundaries

Boundaries are an absolute necessity whether it’s with blogging, work, life or people. When it comes to blogging, it’s really important to remember that blogging isn’t real life. And blogging takes up a lot more time and energy than people realise. Only people that blog will know how much effort we put into our blog posts. Even coming up with a topic to share content about is hard work for many.

So, when things get busy and you feel like blogging is starting to feel like a chore it’s okay to take a break. Some days are tough and you don’t need to force yourself to blog if you’re not in the right mood for it or if you don’t have the time for it. You’re human, you deserve breaks. And keep in mind, blogging shouldn’t feel like a chore. Like one more thing you have to do. It should be something enjoyable that you do because you want to.

Research

A little bit of research goes a long way and saves tons of time. For example, I never did my research when I first started blogging and I’m still spending time editing old posts to make them SEO friendly. Had I done the research back then and just shared already SEO friendly posts it would have saved me so much time. Also, learning how to use WordPress’s features early on by doing some research really helps save time too. That way you’re not trying to figure stuff out as you go, instead you know what you’re doing and only need to focus on your content.

What’s Love Got To Do With It?

In the end, the main way I manage life with blogging is simply doing whatever it takes to continue blogging because I love what I do. Blogging is my outlet, my sanctuary and my happy place. I love connecting with people on here, meeting new people and interacting with those I’ve known for ages. It’s something that’s a part of me now. And when you love something, you figure out a way.

Final Thoughts

And that is how I manage life with blogging. Hope those tips were helpful and gave you some options on how you can balance everything out while still blogging consistently. Also remember, it’s okay to take breaks when necessary and blogging doesn’t always come first, our real life does.

  1. Great information and thoughts, thanks

    1. Thank you very much.

  2. Great post. I used to be obsessed with blogging, but that was when I first started and I had more time. Now that I have less time and more commitments, blogging sometimes takes a back seat. But I always come back to it because it love it!

    1. Thank you. I think it can often be that way when we first start blogging. I remember being online much more for the first two years of blogging. Absolutely, it’s hard to leave the platform completely but we have to make changes to how much time we spend here depending on our schedule!

      1. That’s definitely true. Since I started my blog, I went back to work part-time and was still busy raising children. But I was younger then and had more energy! Now they are grown, but I seem to be even busier with activities! And as I get older, being on the blog seems less urgent, although I know I will never give it up. Adjustments are always necessary.

        1. That makes sense, life is so much busier when you’re a parent and the kids are still young plus working part-time too. I can relate, when I started blogging I was still a student so didn’t have too much going on or too many responsibilities but now I work full time and have had to cut back on blogging a little as well. Adjustments are definitely necessary, as our life changes so do our schedules.

          1. I don’t think I will ever give up blogging, but to stay in the game, you have to adjust to your schedule. Here I am saying this after being off it again for a couple weeks. I always question whether I’m losing interest. I don’t think it’s that. I’m just so busy!

            1. Yeah, I think more than anything it’s just that we have to prioritise other things sometimes and take breaks. I’ve been taking some time off recently too and focusing on my writing instead.

  3. Good piece. Thanks for the read

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. We don’t have writer’s blocks… our voices change. It is part of the process to breathe. Keep doing your good work

        1. That’s true, as writers our writing evolves with us.

  4. I feel weird or rudderless when I can’t write a blog post!

    1. I totally get that, I always feel like something is missing when I take a break!

      1. I missed writing my daily posts during my move from New Hampshire to Florida. I was unable to write for nine days! That wasn’t fun.

        1. Yeah, it feels so weird not being able to blog.

  5. I write in spurts, but as of today, I have a poem or blog ready to go for the entire month of May. I’d like to get so far ahead, where like social media holidays, I have them mapped out like 2 months in advance. I’ll get there eventually. Life keeps me busy. 🙂

    1. That’s great, it really does help to keep posts ready to publish. Yeah, I’m sure you can get two months ready in advance when you get a little more time. 🙂

  6. I love blogging too! I don’t really do much scheduling, I just blog as and when I can! Which is a lot lol!

    1. That’s awesome, I’m glad you’re able to blog regularly without having to do too much scheduling!

  7. the original reason for my blog to get me more focused on what I love to do, and learning how to do that focus, being in that moment, but my brain is like a box of frogs it doesn’t always work out the way I want

    1. That’s fair, I think most bloggers jump to different topics than what they initially thought they would be blogging about. My goals were totally different when I first started blogging too.

  8. I’m glad you find blogging a happy place. It all depends on the quality of followers, doesn’t it? Sometimes you can find people’s comments uplifting and satisfying and rarely you may find people who are unkind leaving us with sad feelings. I guess the latter are unhappy with their own life and while it can be annoying their negative comments may be a cry for attention.

    1. Yes, very true. I think usually the comments are lovely but those not so nice comments do come in once in a while. Yeah, I think people that leave negative comments are either unhappy/miserable or perhaps don’t have the emotional intelligence to communicate their feelings well.

  9. A great post with lots of great advice. I looked at the automated post feature, but because I made a separate folder for my blog, the menu has to be updated manually. I have been meaning to contact the happiness engineers to see if there is a solution, but I have not made time to do it. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks so much. Oh I see, that’s interesting I didn’t know menu’s had to be updated manually. That’s generally not the case on WP.

  10. Nice advice ! Yes the schedualing part is a great, I often write posts ahead of time and just have them post the next week . It’s really handy when I have other things to do .

    1. Thank you! I often do that too, it really helps to have some posts ready to just publish.

  13. Oh yes a schedule and schedule posts are golden.

    1. Yeah, scheduling ahead on busy days helps a lot.

  14. I am a bit of adrenaline junkie when it come to my blog. I like in the moment writing, short form, it hurts a bit on the backend for length but I win on the reach, rebranding and SEO for cross platforms. Oh gosh time management and making sure you still live life so you have things to write about is also so vital

    1. That totally makes sense, sometimes you just want to write what comes to mind at that time instead of scheduling ahead. And time management is definitely vital because blogging can end up taking a lot of time.

    1. Thank you.

  15. I find it hard to keep a regular schedule with blogging!

    1. That’s fair, it can be difficult to balance everything!

Loved this post—practical, honest, and full of helpful reminders. Your passion for blogging really shines through!

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed the post!

  17. Yep, scheduling was a game changer for me. Really changed how I did blogging.
But the most important thing is what you stated near the end, blogging isn’t real. Real Life always takes priority!

    1. Yeah, scheduling really saves so much time and energy doesn’t it. Absolutely, blogging is great but it’s not the same as real life.

    Some good advice in this.

    1. Thanks so much.

  20. I can hear Tina Turner in my head singing, “What’s love got to do! Got to do with it!” Lol! When you mix a little bit of that wisdom, with a little bit of that love, you get an incredible post like this! I think you’re pretty darn good at this whole blogging thing. Just sayin! 😁

    1. Lol love that song! Thank you so much, you’re too sweet! 😊

      1. Rest in peace to her beautiful soul! You already know it’s always my pleasure! 😊😁

  21. Great information.

    Blessings 🌈

    1. Thanks so much. 🙏💕

  22. Great post, Pooja.. the ins and outs and ups and downs of blogging truly is mind bloggoling. Yes, spelling correct. It’s a lot, a love, a passion and it’s the connection. Balancing is key and always the challenge! D is probs happy to hear from you but where the heck is he? He seemed to fall off the planet?! 🌏💕 Hi D!!!!!

    1. It is, blogging is so much more work than people realise! Ikr D is so MIA these days I guess he’s busy with other stuff in his life.

      1. It really is and you have double the blogging experience with your own blog and helping others. It’s a lot time, love, passion and commitment. Oh I know he was trying to start some bus. things.. I’m sure he’s thriving but I miss him~! 💕

        1. Yeah, I have a lot of experience with blogging and know first hand how complicated it can get sometimes.
I think so, he seems to have a lot going on which is great but of course he’s missed here!

          1. Absolutely, you do! You’re a Godsend! Life gets busy and it’s hard to keep up at times! 🩷

  23. I love blogging because it is an outlet for many things; most importantly, being creative. Sometimes, I feel I need a break, but I can’t seem to stay away too long. I schedule my prompts and wrap-ups, Awww Mondays, and Wordless Wednesdays 2 months in advance.

    1. Yeah, blogging is one of those things where it’s hard to quit completely. A couple days away once in a while is fine but after that you start to miss it. Wow, 2 months in advance is awesome, that must help save some time.

      1. It saves a lot of time, and I don’t feel hurried. 😊

  24. I really enjoyed your post 📫 about blogging. I used to blog a lot and I loved to write unfortunately my pain makes it quite difficult. That’s cool that you have published things!

    1. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, having to deal with that must make things more difficult but glad you still blog when you can. Thanks!

  25. You provided great tips, Pooja! I do my posts manually; it just works for now. And since I’m not retired yet, keeping up with reading blogs is the challenge. But I agree with you that now and then, breaks are needed. I love the connections too and the creative outlet that blogging has turned out to be. 💕

    1. Thanks so much! That’s great, I think different things work best for different people. Yeah, it’s time consuming keeping up with other blogs and breaks certainly help. But most of us probably wouldn’t stop blogging altogether. 💕

  26. Hi Pooja!

I would like to reflect on some key points:

    • You are a human.
    • Set boundaries.
    • Schedules are helpful. I’ll work on this!
    • SEO should be optional, I guess; for me.

Overall you do blog because you love blogging.
Interacting with people from several corners of the world is a good mental emotional exercise.

Thank you for your patience, hardwork and efforts!

    1. Thanks for highlighting those. I agree, at the end of the day it’s about loving what you do when it comes to blogging!

  27. Is FGW active on LinkedIn?

He’s absent here. I checked he has published a post recently, but is not active himself.

    1. Yes, I believe he’s active on LinkedIn but not sure. He posted something today as well but hasn’t been active online apart from that.

  28. Blogging sure takes up a lot of time and energy. Sometimes it’s hard to find the balance.

    1. True, it can be quite time consuming.

  29. Great post. Life is overwhelming. Blogging is overwhelming. I’m learning how to balance both. I just try to make time to blog, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. It’s amazing how much you can get out during that time.

    1. Thank you so much. True, it’s a lot of work and can get time consuming. Finding the right balance takes a little while but you’ll figure out what works for you eventually. Yes, even in 10 minutes you can do a lot.

  30. Fabulous advice, Pooja! 💞💞💞 I’m grateful for the scheduling feature since it takes the pressure off. The other thing I do is commit to a posting schedule less than what I think I can handle….for me it’s once a week. That way if my muse is going crazy, or a prompt inspires me I can drop an ‘extra’ blog in the mix without feeling overwhelmed when life gets crazy. I also don’t lock myself into “only” posting certain things. My writing is very eclectic (that’s how I read too) so you can find anything on my blog from an essay to poetry, to sci-fi tales and almost anything in between. 💞 That way whatever direction my muse takes I can follow her down the rabbit hole and still have a blog post out of it!

    1. Thanks so much! That’s great, I think keeping the pressure to post as low as possible really helps. That way you can post an extra post when possible but don’t feel the need to every single week. I love that you listen to your muse and walk beside it, as writers that’s the best way to live! 💕

  31. Nice post 💜❤️💗

    Blessed and Happy saturday 🌷

    1. Thanks so much 💕💕

  32. Good information, “Do it because you love it” Great advice! 🤣😎🙃

    1. Thank you! ☺️

  33. Hi Pooja! Great advice as usual. Interesting that I landed on this post when finally starting to catch up on blogs I follow. Volunteering for a month on an election campaign took a lot of time away so I apologize for missing many posts!

    1. Thank you so much! No worries, I’ve been very busy too and haven’t been able to read your posts for a the last couple of weeks. It seems like elections went well in Canada, I hope things take a turn for the better.

      1. You’re welcome and thank you, too. Yes the election went well, we were happy with the results of all the work. I do believe the new government will put us on a better path.

        1. That’s really great and you’re most welcome.

  34. ❤️❤️❤️

  35. Great post, Pooja! ♥️🌹

    1. Thank you! ❤️

      1. It’s my pleasure, Pooja! 💗🌸

  36. I am hoping to grow my blogging as you have- do you have any suggestions?
Also loved your next post! I am writing my first novel and hoping it succeed but not holding breath lol

    1. I would recommend being as active as possible, that gets you lots of subscribers. And use 6-10 tags per post and 1-2 categories. Make sure they are relevant so your post gets to the right audience.
Thank you and good luck with your novel!

      1. I appreciate this! Thank you😊

        1. You’re very welcome! 😊
