The General
A few months ago, we had visited The General and I finally got the images ready to share on the blog. The General is a bar and restaurant located at Harmony Center in Westlands, Nairobi. Learn more about it here.
We hadn’t gone out in quite a while so we decided to dress up and head out for the night. Today, I wanted to share my review and experience of the place.
Just a heads up, sometimes WP messes up my images in the Reader so if that’s the case and you’re not seeing them properly on the Reader please feel free to view them on my site in a new tab by clicking here.
The Aesthetic
I loved the aesthetic. It just had such a cool vibe to it and was a lot of fun to look around and take pictures while we waited for our food and drinks. They had some fires, cosy sitting and really friendly staff. They also had sitting available both inside and outside.
Shoutout to my cousin brother for taking all these great images! And this is before I got my haircut and in March so my hair is longer now and not as uneven anymore lol.
The Food And Drinks
Their food options were all vegan or vegetarian which we loved. We pretty much got almost everything on the menu and honestly this was some of the best food I’ve ever had. I feel like with bars the food is always a hit or miss. Some places have the best stuff and some places are clearly not there for the food lol. But this was great, we ate so much!
We started with the pulled jackfruit tacos, they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We liked them so much we ordered a bunch of plates. Seriously the best tacos I’ve had in Kenya.
Of course, we had to get some fries because we always do lol! They were so good. Freshly made, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Everyone’s favourite was the spicy and savoury grilled cheese sandwiches. The cheese pull was enough to make it a favourite. If you try nothing else at The General, try the grilled cheese sandwiches. I think they had added some spicy salsa to it which took it to the next level.
We also tried the gnocchi, I’m forgotten what flavour it was but honestly I found it blend although not bad. Just wish it was better flavoured.
We also ordered the focaccia which was really delicious but a little chewy. I prefer when it’s more soft and airy. But it was still really good, plus it was made fresh which makes it so much better.
We got some drinks, I forget what they were called but they were really good. This was the only picture I could find, but the rest were pretty like this one too.
Of course, we had to get dessert which was this raw vegan orange chocolate brownie. For those of you that don’t know, orange chocolate is my absolute favourite flavour and this one was incredible. Seriously, I still dream about this brownie. It haunts me knowing that I can’t eat it every single day of my life.
Overall
Overall, we had such a great time. We even met some new people which is rare for me because I’m such an introvert. One of the people we met there was Gideon, an influencer and content creator. You can check out his Instagram page here and I would love for you to follow him and support him if his page seems like something you would enjoy!
If you ever find yourself in Nairobi, do visit The General. The food, the drinks and the vibes are off the hook!
