World Kindness Day- Sharing My Story

World Kindness Day Graphic

Today is World Kindness Day and an important reminder to be kind to both those around us and to ourselves (because we too often forget to be kind to ourselves too). Since it’s World Kindness Day, I wanted to share a short post on how the kindness of strangers changed my life.

When I first started blogging, I was in a pretty bad place with my mental health. I felt suffocated, lost and muted. Like most people in their late teens, there was so much happening in my life and I was much too young to always make the right decisions. I started blogging because I’ve always loved writing and someone I was friends with at the time suggested blogging on WordPress. I did that, expecting nothing from it really. But what I found instead was a community where I could finally be myself. Where I could share the content I loved creating, make genuine connections and get more support than I could have ever imagined.

So many people on this platform, essentially strangers, went out of their way to be kind to me. And it saved my life. Not metaphorically, literally. My books, my work, my safe happy place- all that exists because of kindness.

So remember to be kind because a small act of kindness could make a huge impact on another persons life. And to everyone here that supported me and continue to support me, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Let me know what your plans are for the next two months and what you’ll be up to.

I recently published my first book and would be honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. Yes to every kind of kindness!

  2. kindness just has to be something that just is. yes, you can always aspire to be more kind, but something as simple of holding a door open for someone at some point just becomes something you do….clearing the snow of of someone elses sidewalk, just paying for that Starbucks customer that’s in the car behind you..and hope they at some point do the same…..

    1. Yeah, those small things definitely matter.

  3. We may forget most people and places, but we never forget those moments when kindness was offered to us. It is the rarest, most valuable gem. I’m so pleased you found that here!

    1. I absolutely agree, those acts of kindness stay with us. Thank you!

  4. Blogging saved me too but in my early-mid 20s, still helping me now. 🙂 Am very grateful to this small but thriving WP community, it’s easily the safest place on the Internet. Thanks for sharing your story!

    1. I agree (I’m much older but WP has been a safe place) – lovely post P 💜

      1. Thank you and yeah this is such a wonderful platform 💗

    2. Definitely, it’s so different than other platforms and really shows how nice the internet can be. Thank you and so glad you found a safe space here too!

  5. Pooja, couldn’t agree more about WP being a great place. So much talent… support… encouragement… humor… and kindness.

Aside: I’ve been meaning to snag a copy of your book for Xmas but keep forgetting. But after reading Sirius’ review, I just hit the ol’ checkout button on Amazon for the hardcopy version. I’ll give it to my wife but immediately swipe it back when she goes into the kitchen to check the turkey 😂😎

    1. Absolutely, there are so many lovely people here. Including yourself of course.

Oh wow, thanks so much- really appreciate it and I hope both of you enjoy it 😊😀

    2. Ya’ll my fav people in the “world” and both of your blogs / osm sites have been lifesavers for me 😀 Talk about kindness !!! <3 Bless you & yours always !!!

      1. Aww you’re the sweetest, Siri! 💕

  6. *Big hugs*

“So remember to be kind because a small act of kindness could make a huge impact on another person’s life.”

It’s almost amazing how time has truly flown by. We’ve all really watched each other grow here on WordPress.

Kindness will take a person a mighty long way. And it costs nothing, too.

    1. Absolutely, we have and we’ve seen how important a space like this is as well.

  7. Be kind to oneself first, and then to others.
Because when you are not kind to yourself it’s really hard to stay kind with others.

So I have this realisation here, on this platform.
This platform certainly gave me my voice, learning opportunities and an emotional support base.

At home and school we’re told to stay kind and respectful to everyone. But being to oneself was rarely highlighted.
So when I was left alone in my tough time, I kinda lose my trust in humanity at all.

Not everyone can be kind to you. There are many people who choose to behave aggressively, causing damage more than something good.

Life has good and bad all types of elements. There are emotional ups and downs. Some days feel like a dream, most days are raw and real.

You need to find meaning on your own. Other people’s definition of life may not suit you in every context.

    1. So true, it’s hard to be kind to ourselves for some reason. It’s important to treat ourselves with kindness too.

  8. Great post, yes blogging and reading blogs on WordPress have been great for me also.

    1. Thank you and glad it’s been great for you as well.

  9. Thank goodness you found comfort and a caring community during a difficult time. 💝 Thank you for sharing kindness in all the ways that you do. 🌼

    1. Thank you so much and always happy to match the kindness I’ve received here 💗

  10. Kindness day is a good idea, we need more of that, and thank you for your kindness by the way

    1. Absolutely, we need a lot more kindness in the world. Thank you as well for the kindness towards me and other bloggers too. It means a lot.

  11. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  17. I couldn’t agree more, Pooja. When I retired, I needed something to fill the void, and that’s when I found WordPress. Besides allowing me to be creative, I love the community. We should all be kind to one another every day of the year. Happy Kindness Day! 💞

    1. I’m so glad you found WP too, it’s been an amazing way for so many of us to connect and find something we love. Agreed, we should try our hardest to be kind every day 💗

Belated Happy World Kindness Day! I could be remembering this wrong but I think you were one of the first bloggers I followed, maybe around the same time we both first started too. The growth of your blog has been phenomenal and inspiring. And I’ve seen those genuine connections you mentioned all the time in your comment sections. How you are spreading openness and kindness and receiving it right back. You are spot on about how powerful kindness, big or small, can be life-changing for others and towards ourselves.

    1. Thank you! Yes, that’s right and I think you were one of the first few bloggers I followed too. It’s amazing how much we’ve grown and evolved since. Thank you so much, I try my best since I’ve received a lot of genuine compassion and kindness here too. Thanks for sticking by and supporting the blog over the years!

  21. It is interesting where we find support sometimes. As for my plans, I have things pertaining to writing floating around in my head but not yet sure what I am going to do with them. But as for the Holidays that I celebrate, it will be nice to have them again with the rest of my family. My oldest niece is going to make Thanksgiving dinner so that should be fun and relaxing.

    1. Yes, truly. That’s interesting, are you considering publishing another book? That sounds like it’ll be a lovely Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy it.

      1. Well, I have a book in the works but not sure when it will be done. And thank you.

        1. That’s wonderful, I’m looking forward to it whenever it’s published.

  22. kindness…and thank you for yours, Pooja … 🤍🌷

    1. Always a pleasure and thank you as well 💗

      1. 🤍🌷🤗

  23. Happy Kindness Day to you too, Pooja. Although we are from different generations, I remember following you years ago. You had interesting ideas then, and now. Where I have been more of a slow burn finding my voice and blogging strengths, I clearly remember how you just built and built and built your site up and had well over 1000 followers. We all support each other, don’t we? ❤️

    1. Thank you so much. That’s so kind of you to say. Yes, I think regardless of the different ages we all seems to really connect on here ❤️

      1. Yes! It’s a very cool community. ❤️

  24. Blogging has opened me up to a kind-hearted community. Online spaces don’t have so scary.

    Happy World Kindness Day!

    1. Same here and thank you so much!

  25. Thank you for sharing a part of your Journey P.J. ❤️ Kindness makes an incredible difference, as you have so eloquently stated and shared. Congratulations on your book.

    1. Thank you so much and I so agree, kindness makes a huge difference. ❤️

  26. I agree, blogging saved my life too! I mean, I literally depend on my blog to help me cope! It is one of my coping techniques, xo

    1. Same here, blogging is a real life changer!

  27. How right you are Pooja- kindness is a gift and a blessing. It saves us and distinguishes us from ugliness.

    1. Thank you so much and I totally agree.

      1. 🙏🏼💖🙏🏼

  29. It’s always nice to know that the “milk of human kindness” flows in your veins, Pooj.

    1. Thanks and you as well, it’s important to be kind to one another.

  30. I’m gald for the day, but I strive for it every day. Sadly, sometimes strangers are the most kind. Congrats on your success. 🤣😎🙃

    1. That’s true, we should try to be kind daily and yes strangers are sometimes the most kind. Thank you ☺️

    1. Thank you so much!! ❤️

  32. Beautiful and deeply kind post! <3 You shine light on what's important and possible. <3

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  33. I’m glad you’ve had a positive experience in blogging so far. In the early stages of my blogging which go back to the original days I had some threatening comments that were passed on to the FBI in that the comments originated there and they got that person straightened out very quickly it seems because he apologized.

    1. Oh wow, sorry to hear about the comments but glad it was sorted out. How odd to attack someones blog like that.

  34. Blogging helped me mentally too, I would be lost without it! Kindness costs nothing 🙌. Loved having an insight into your story ☺️✨️💗

    1. Blogging has been a refuge for so many of us and thanks so much! 😊💗

  35. Glad this platform help you cope Pooja. As we say in Jamaica…”don’t worry bout ah ting and no problem man!”

    1. I need to keep telling myself that more often!

  36. Great post! Kindness does go a long way! ❤️

    1. Thanks and yes it does! 💞

  37. Kindness can heal souls!!!!

  38. Thank you for the kindness you’ve always shown me and other bloggers, Pooja.

    1. It’s always been my pleasure. I’ve gotten so much kindness here, I want to be able to share that.

  39. Kindness is the backbone of everything in our life. Thanks Pooja for this great post 👏👏👏

    1. I completely agree, thanks so much 💗

      1. Thanks for your valuable comment 👍

        1. You’re most welcome 😊

  40. Well now I’m frustrated that I missed this post from you from like six days ago! Good grief! lol! Maybe I will get my act together soon here. Lol! But, I loved how vulnerable and sweet this was! Gosh, you just seem so genuine and so kind yourself, that I think you absolutely deserve all of the kindness that you’ve ever been given back. That’s a very nice feeling to know that we’re like a safe space for you here. 🤗

    1. No worries and thank you so much! I’ve really appreciated your kindness and compassion! 🤗

  41. We never know how much a seemingly simple act can mean to another. Lovely post, Pooja! 💞💞💞

    1. Yes, exactly- that’s why we should try to be kind whenever possible! 💕

  42. Your words land like sunlight through a window — warm, honest, and full of life. What you’ve shared is a reminder that kindness is not random or small — it is architecture, it is rescue, it is the difference between silence and survival.

You didn’t just find a platform — you found oxygen. A space where strangers became anchors, where writing became healing, and where the world slowly widened again. The fact that your book, your work, your voice exist because people cared… that is everything World Kindness Day is meant to celebrate.

Thank you for sharing your story, and for reminding us that kindness can be a lifeline we may never know we’re offering. Your gratitude is luminous — and your journey proof that words can save lives, including our own.

    1. Thank you so much, happy to share the story and remind people that kindness does make a difference.
