Watching You

Watching You

I know you see me watching you

Your lips curl into a smile

Your fingers running through your hair

Your perfectly rounded hips swaying

Your body moving to the music

I’m captivated… desperate

To hold you in my arms once more

But instead I look away

Reluctantly

And focus on the woman in my arms

The woman merely hours ago

I promised to love and cherish

Till death do us part

About Watching You:

This poem is one of those random ones that popped into my mind and I had to write it down because why not. As you can maybe tell by my lack of related content, I’m not one for relationships. Definitely not long term ones. However, I do find relationships fascinating to observe. Some say I’m nosy, I say it’s all for my art…

Anyhoo, I find it fascinating how some people end up settling instead of being with who they truly want to be with. Sometimes it’s due to circumstances, sometimes it’s due to mistakes, sometimes it’s just bad luck and things didn’t work out. And I think that’s what this poem is about. Sometimes you can crave someone so much but yet know that you’ll never be with them. That and also this is a friendly reminder to not invite ex’s to the wedding lol…

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the poem. Let me know your thoughts on it in the comments because I would love to hear them!

  1. That poor new bride. She’s in for a very rough life with a husband like that…

    1. Yup, unfortunately so 🙁

  2. Love knows no boundaries to the chagrin of vows, and legal bindings.

    1. Yes, I think that’s often the case.

  3. Unfortunately that happens

    1. Yes, unfortunately so.

  4. Wow, that’s a tough situation. I think the groom should have thought longer about getting married…

    1. Yup, I think so too. It’s best to wait or even be alone rather than settle 💔

      1. Right on, Pooja. 🤙🏻

  5. I’m right there with you! It’s absolutely fascinating indeed! I always find those types of circumstances of things just not being able to work out to be tragic. But at the end of the day, we will usually have the choice within us to decide to never settle for less regardless. At least we have the control of carrying that specific principle with us in our relationships.

I just now realized too that maybe some people aren’t with the people they should be with because of the fear of letting that person know how they truly feel on a deeper level? Maybe for some people that’s a reason too. Who knows.

    1. Yes, I think that’s actually so true. So many people settle especially in relationships but imo it’s better to be alone than to be with the wrong person. Fear is a part of it for sure, I think they fear being with the right person and messing it up as well as the fear of truly letting someone in.

      1. Absolutely spot on Pooj! I especially loved the point too about being alone instead of being with the wrong person too. I think too many people grow up with social and societal expectations that they have to have a romantic partnership with someone to be truly happy. And that’s absolutely not true at all. (At least from my experience anyway)

  6. I also like to observe people as they go about their life. We are all so different and its amazing that two people who are different can commit themselves to a long term relationship.

    1. Yes, it can be quite interesting to observe people.

  7. Hey Pooj,
It’s kind of like following those accounts on social media that make you lose sleep. I have the tendency to find out what my ex’s are up to just to go: See, she wasn’t serious about you at all. And now you can regret all the bad decisions you have made. LoL

    1. Haha yes, so many of us do that. All my ex’s are now engaged or married…

      1. Same here, or divorced

Powerful writing, P.J. You can sense the emotions and tensions are real.

    1. Thank you so much.

  9. As I’ve pointed out in my Jim Garraty stories, love and attraction (the two aren’t the same) are extremely complicated.

    1. Yes, so true. I think the stories definitely do a great job of showing that difference.

      1. Granted, the Duology is mostly about different aspects of love (the good, the bad, and the confusing) as seen through Jim’s experiences. But in at least one story, we see raw attraction between characters that doesn’t end in “true love.”

Anyhoo…great poem with what I call a “classic Gudkian twist.”

        1. Haha thank you. Yeah, I think the latest story really shows how you can connect with someone even if it’s not love or something that lasts beyond that moment.

  10. I think his wife is due for an unfortunate accident. 🤣😎🙃

    1. I think you may be right… 😅

  11. Poor couple.

    1. Yes, doomed from the start.

  12. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  13. Beautiful poem

    1. Thanks so much.

    1. I’m so glad you found someone that’s loyal and loving. It seems like you two are in a very good place. I agree, I think for the marriage to be successful you need to love and respect them as a human being, like you would a friend, not just in a romantic way.
Unfortunately, it’s a jungle out there on most online platforms but WP is still not that bad compared to social media.

  15. Oooh – that has a twist. What a sad situation.

    1. Yes, indeed so.

  16. It’s unfortunate, but it happens. Love the poem, Pooja.

    1. Yeah, sometimes people make the wrong choices. Thanks so much, hope your WP issues have been resolved.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja. I did a restart on my laptop, which trouble shoots Windows 11 software issues. My programs seem to be running smoother. I feel some of the problem is our Wi-Fi connection. My hubby’s computer slows down, as well. Sigh.

        1. Oh I see, yeah Wifi issues can cause loading problem etc as well.

  17. Fear is a tangible thing, people sometimes settles because they are afraid to be alone…

    1. Yes, I think that’s one of the biggest reasons why people settle- they’re afraid to be alone.

    Interesting poem.

  19. Very good poem. The breakdown was awesome too. Took me inside the thoughts and angle.

    Truly appreciate it

    1. Thanks so much, glad to hear you enjoyed the poem.

  20. Why not. Your work often has a turn, and here it is. And it caught me unexpected, as your turns often accomplish. As for a theme of cynicism regarding relationships, I think it’s warranted. And I hope you are having a pleasant weekend.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, I think I can be cynical when it comes to relationships but it’s only because I’ve witnessed a lot of the worst parts of them. Have a great weekend too and hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!

  21. This is a good one. I do find relationships and the complications it comes with fascinating too.

    1. Complexities, i mean

    2. Thank you so much. Yes, it can be fascinating.

  22. This was a great one! But it made me feel sad. This poam actually speaks of a tragedy of sorts, and also that it may well not be the last one to come out of this situation… Sometimes, even when settling with someone else, true love is true and never dies. But yeah, maybe don’t invite the ex to the wedding party if your gonna go through with it… lol!

    1. Yeah, I think some love just remains with us no matter what. It’s sad but very human. Haha yes that too!

  23. I like your poem. I reminds me of one time when I was at restaurant in a shopping center and was sitting within earshot of two guys with one guy commenting on his desire of how he would like to be with several different women that passed by in the shopping center. A few minutes later a stunningly beautiful woman approached their table and kissed the guy and asked if he missed her while she was in the washroom. I often wondered what she would think if she knew what he was saying while she was not there, lol.

    1. It’s always the ones with the stunning gf’s and wives that say stuff like that too lol.

  24. Oh this was fab Pooj! I really enjoyed your poem! I agree, relationships can be fascinating watching them bloom and grow!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and thank you!

  25. Very good poem. I’ve been researching attachment and detachment lately. I’ve never been optimistic about relationships myself, but thankful for all of my friends for sure. It’s Thanksgiving today in the states. Thankful for your friendship Pooja. I hope you’re doing well 🙂

    1. Very thankful for your friendship too 🙂

      1. Fist bump and hug 🙂

  26. You’re so good at writing poems on a whim. What a twist!

    1. Thanks so much, they’re a lot of fun to write!

  27. Truly inspiring and emotionally written! You convey feelings and moments that stay with the reader ✨🖋️💛

    1. Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the poem 😊

  28. Oh no! lol, always fun to read

    1. Haha thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

  29. Hope your significant other doesn’t catch you watching another 😂.

    1. Let’s hope so 😅

  30. Ha! A surprise twist at the end, as always! Definitely don’t invite the ex!!!

    1. Thank you so much and yes definitely don’t lol!

  31. Yet again with your work I didn’t see the ending coming! 🤣🙌 This leaves so many questions about the characters and I love that!

    1. Haha thank you so much! 😊💕

  32. an unexpected twist…
    Pooja’s way…😋😂

a sad reality for some …

    1. Haha you know I love those unexpected twists and turns 😅

      Unfortunately so 💔

  33. Keep us posted… I think it’s a good twist invitation for your book. 💕😇

    1. Thank you!! 😊💓

  34. My heart just broke for the new wife 💔 Well penned, Pooja! 💞💞💞

    1. Thank you, unfortunately a reality for some 💔💔

  35. That’s a great poem with an emotionally charged, relatable message, Pooja.

  36. You know what is sad is that stuff like that happens. And it is not always the happy ending that you gave this poem. I like it. It was very real.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, unfortunately these things happen quite often. A lot of people marry for the sake of being married.

  37. sneer cos if here. wash and dry smile and cry ooof ouch oh dear not now!

      1. BEING MANIC IS SUUUCH FUN TOO
