This is my first post about AEO and I wanted to give you a little background information on why. Personally, I don’t care too much about AI and how it affects my content. However, AI is definitely everywhere. And so there are obviously people out there who do care about AEO. Also, AI is the main reason so many are seeing decreased Search Engine views on posts that were once very popular. And AEO friendly posts can help pick the traffic back up.
Recently, someone that read my post about growing your followers on WordPress reached out and asked if I could share a post about AEO and how one can use it to increase traffic. So, I got into it and started doing my research. And this is what I’ve found and wanted to share.
For anyone wondering about AEO, I hope this helps! And if you’re someone that isn’t concerned about AEO or perhaps aren’t actively trying to grow your blog than feel free to skip this post. I won’t take it personally, I swear lol.
What Is AEO?
How To Make Your Posts More AEO Friendly
Now that you know a little more about AEO and it’s importance for your site, let’s get into how you can make your posts more AEO friendly. And of course, like I mentioned this is totally optional. And mostly for people looking to increase traffic to their site. If you’re blogging as a hobby or don’t particularly care about AEO, feel free to skip this.
Improve Mobile-Friendliness And Speed
Most people use their mobile devices when they search for things, we can see this in the statistics. However, a lot of sites are not mobile-friendly. In fact, sites that may load perfectly on your laptop/desktop may be incredibly slow and difficult to navigate on your phone. And a lot of themes, including the ones on WordPress, are not very mobile friendly.
For both SEO and AEO, the first thing you want to do is make sure that your load time is minimal to decrease the number of people leaving your site as it’s not loading fast enough. And of course, no one wants to be on a site when they’re on their phone that takes forever to navigate. Make sure your site is easy to use and mobile-friendly. Because in this day and age, if your site isn’t exceptional there’s going to be lots of others that are that have the same niche/niches.
Monitor Performance
Tools like Google Search Console can be incredibly useful for tracking what posts are bringing in the most traffic. And which answers are already performing well on Search Engines like Google. This will give you a better idea of what you’re doing right and what needs to be improved. If a certain topic is getting an exceptional amount of traffic, it’s probably a good idea to create similar content. Not just with similar topics but also the structure of the post itself.
Keep Content Fresh
Regularly review and update your older posts to make sure they remain accurate and relevant. I do this literally daily but to be fair I have a lot of posts. I would also add that it’s important to share content about trending topics if you’re looking to bring in more traffic and have your content used for answers. For example, with Christmas and other seasonal holidays coming up, a lot of people are going to be searching for related content. This would be a great time to share posts to do with Christmas or whichever holidays you would like to talk about.
Answer Questions Directly
Creating content that provides concise answers to user questions upfront is a great way to better your AEO. You can start your post with short answers to questions users may be asking search engines,. Then provide more details in the rest of the post. Here’s an extra tip (that’s what she said?), do some research into what questions are most commonly asked to Search Engines in your niche. I do that once or twice a year and get quite a few ideas for content from there.
Structure With Headings And Lists
Clear headings (H2, H3) for questions are a must. Headings help bots understand your content and therefore use it accordingly.
Breaking up information with bullet points, numbered lists, and short paragraphs also helps to make your content easier to crawl and understand.
Create FAQ Sections
Include dedicated FAQ sections to answer multiple related questions in your blog post. This is great for both SEO and AEO actually. This will again help crawlbots better understand your content. And make them much more likely to use your post/posts/site in answers. I also think this is great for your audience in general. It helps them understand the post even if they may not have time to read the whole thing.
