How To Increase Your Domain Authority

What Is Domain Authority?

“Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). Domain Authority scores range from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to greater likelihood of ranking.

Domain Authority is based on data from our Link Explorer web index and uses dozens of factors in its calculations. The actual Domain Authority calculation itself uses a machine learning model to predictively find a “best fit” algorithm that most closely correlates our link data with rankings across thousands of actual search results that we use as standards to scale against.”

Why Is Domain Authority Important?

“Your Domain Authority is important because it is representative of how you rank on search engine. It helps you better understand your site’s credibility in the eyes of the search engines and you can see how you compare to your competition.”

How To Increase Your Domain Authority

Now that you understand a little more about what domain authority is, why it exists and what its purpose is you may also understand why it is important a little better. I wanted to share this information first so that you would understand why increasing your DA would be useful for you.

An increase in your DA could lead to a lot of benefits for your site and for you. It would improve your traffic and consequently improve your following. An increased DA would also make your site much more SEO friendly which would mean an increase in traffic from Search Engines. This could lead to growth and a larger income as more sponsors would want to work with a popular site.

If your goals with your site are to grow it and make some sort of income from it then you need to start paying attention to your DA. So, if you’re wondering how you can easily improve your DA, here’s how:

Improve Your SEO

WordPress Laptop Typing

A really easy way to increase your domain authority is to increase your SEO. Both on-page SEO and off-page SEO are very important. Domain authority can better your SEO and SEO can better your DA. When it comes to SEO, everything is sort of interconnected. I loathe that about it but until I can buy Google I’m not going to be able to change that.

Lifesfinehwine already has a lot of posts discussing both on-page and off-page SEO and how to improve both so I won’t bore you with the details. I have linked my SEO posts below and you can check them out at your convenience.

SEO is not for everyone and it can be quite complicated for many. It is very technical and one of those things that you either understand or you don’t. You also need a lot of research and free time to learn and implement it. If that feels like something you can’t do, I would recommend hiring a blog manager to do the work for you. I do offer blog management services and I also offer multiple SEO services. Feel free to check them out by clicking here.

Gain Backlinks

Backlinks is still sort of new to me. It’s something that I am more aware of now but still a relatively new topic. However, from what I have learnt from my research, backlinks are very vital for your site. In fact, backlinks can increase your DA, SEO and more.

Backlinks tell Search Engines how popular and trustworthy your site is. Search Engines thrive on this kind of information because they need to to figure out what content to push. You want to stay on their good side if you want your content going out to larger audiences and if you ever want to monetise your site.

Just like with SEO, I already have an existing post about backlinks which I am sure you will find beneficial. It is linked below so feel free to browse through it whenever you can.

Improve Your Site

The best way to improve anything on your site including your Domain Authority is to improve your site overall. A lot can be right with a site and A LOT can be wrong with it. Improving things like your layout, how user friendly your site is, your loading times and more can really help with your DA. It’s also a win-win because it also increases your SEO in the process. Going through older posts and updating them/making them SEO friendly can also do wonders for your site.

Patience Is Key

I say this a lot in my advice posts and I tell all my clients this upfront. Be patient when looking for results. SEO is a very complicated thing. Some things do instantly improve your site but some things take a while to make a difference. SEO is complicated and it takes Search Engines a while to pick up on changes. A couple of things may be noticed instantly but some take weeks, months or even years. Most SEO results are longterm so if your sites DA doesn’t instantly improve don’t take it too personally and instead be patient.

Conclusion

I really hope you enjoyed this post and found it informative. Domain Authority is not something I hear a lot of sites talk about but it is very important. These tips are a great way to increase your DA and your SEO. I also tried to keep it simple because I know most of us in the blogosphere are not exactly tech-savvy.

Have you implemented any of the tips I mentioned? Has it helped? What are some methods you use to improve your domain authority? Let me know in the comments below so I can steal your information for my next post (kidding but not really because there are some serial content stealers on WP)!

  8. I found out about DA last year and have been working on all these points but boy is it hard. I’ve found back links to be especially useful when you have a DA less than 5. A great post as usual. ☺️

    1. Yeah backlinks are definitely super helpful and good luck with increasing your DA, it’s difficult but not impossible. Just takes a lot of time and effort 😊

  9.    A lot of mysteries. I’m lost and only once in a while I stumble across an accidental quirk. For a moment I get all excited like it’s going to mean something. I guess that a couple of times when search results put me on page 1 of a google search that it was a matter of “curiosity”. But the thing is that if after clicking, the person is disappointed, that the whole thing was a moot point because it didn’t actually result on the sale of a book.
One really weird page 2 example was that Amazon told me to link a blog to my Author Page which I did a long time ago. At the time I couldn’t figure out how that would be useful because often posts on the blog were irrelevant to the poetry books that Amazon was selling for me, and they already give samples of each book. So anyway, nothing happened for years. But now a weird thing happened. I wrote a spoof satire recipe post about “Fauci Lasagna” which I put on several blogs under different titles with no comments and no interest on the blogs. The one linked to Amazon was called “Best Fauci Lasagna Better Than The Zambrini Lasagna.” It was a little silly and was just meant to highlight some poetry that followed after the Intro. The thing that’s weird is that there are no links in the google search for the Blog poem sites but there is a link to the Amazon author page where those particular poems do not appear. The connection I see is to the irrelevant blog which Amazon had me put on the author page. But now I’m thinking that I should freeze that blog and not make any new posts that would ruin the link to the books. Maybe I could leave that blog alone and work on my other blogs. I don’t know. The other weird one was a spoof poem “Randi Winegarden, the Marxist.” That one went to one of the blogs and not to the author page. It was was a Roman à Clef because the name was deliberately misspelled, but apparently the misspelling was popular.
Anyway, everything is confusing to me. Maybe I should stay off the internet for awhile. It’s giving me a headache.

    1. If it makes you feel any better we’re all very confused when it comes to how the internet and all its gems work. Search Engines work weirdly and some links are “no-follow” so they don’t show up on the results.

I wasn’t aware of DA until I found myself in an opportunity which required that I have a Domain Authority of at least 30🤣 had to take a crash course in figuring out how to find out what DA was and how to raise it, if only had run into this article at the time would have saved me quiet a bit of time 😅 anyway my DA has been improving and is no longer a single digit 💻
