Mine Tonight

He held me tight

The desperation obvious on both our faces

Holding my breath

I held him just as tightly

As he held me

Tonight all our worries would be forgotten

Because

My cowboy was here tonight

And till noon

He would be mine

Our troubles drowned in whiskey

The sheriff would have to wait

Because this outlaw

Was mine tonight

About “Mine Tonight”:

I want to thank Kevin once more for providing the image (and prompt) for tonights poem. For those of you who don’t know, he has No Theme Thursday posts up every Thursday and on these posts he provides images you can use as prompts for any sort of writing. Today, I really had no idea what I was going to be writing. I generally post poetry on Tuesdays but today my mind was just blank. Thankfully, Kevin’s post came to the rescue. If you’re not already familiar with his blog, check it out by clicking here.

For those of you that don’t know, I listen to a lot of country music. So, I guess that’s what this poem is inspired by. And it sort of looks like the cover of a romance novel so I guess that was partly the inspiration too. Either way, I hope you enjoyed “Mine Tonight.”

What did you think of the poem? What do you see in the image when you look at it? Create your own story behind the image in the comments below! Let me know your thoughts in the comments section. Or simply stop by and say hi!

I thought it might have been inspired by Sara Kjeldsen’s books.

  11. I have several friends that wish there were more single cowboys in this neck of the woods.

    1. I can imagine, I think a lot of people wish that.

      1. I’m kind of a geek. More into computers and video games than horses and tractors. At any rate I’m also married. 😁

  26. Your poem is a good country song. The night in spite of everything belongs to these two. There are obstacles; for a while, they are forgotten. I didn’t know you like country music. Good for you. This has been my younger brother’s livelihood, as he works in the industry as a theatrical producer. He’s worked with many well-known folk, most closely with Dolly Parton. The image above, by the way, strikes me as the cover of a novel. I hope the midpoint of this week, and after, is pleasurable for you.

    1. Thanks so much. Oh wow, that’s so cool. I love Dolly Parton. His job sounds amazing.

I thought so too when I first saw the image, it would be perfect for a romance novel set in the South.

Thank you and hoping the same for you.

  27. Well done Pooja, I’m a country music fan too, and this reads like a country song, “because this outlaw was mine tonight!” Hugs, C

    1. Thanks so much, so nice to meet a fellow country music fan and so glad it read that way!

  28. YeeHaw !!! <3

    Nice.

  30. Looks like this cowboy is worth your time since your inspiration and poetry is so romantic. Any chance his name is Kevin?

    1. Lol, no cowboys in real life at the moment- just imaginary ones 🤠😅

our poetic expression beautifully captures the intensity of a moment shared between two individuals. The raw emotion and connection conveyed through the imagery of being held tightly, the desperation on both faces, and the anticipation of escaping worries together create a vivid and emotive scene. The use of the cowboy and outlaw metaphor adds a touch of mystique to the narrative. Well done in evoking a powerful atmosphere through your words. 🌙🤠

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you liked the poem 😊
