Spicy Korean Gochujang Tofu Scramble Recipe

I decided to share a recipe after quite a while. They’re a little more time consuming than my usual posts so I don’t share them often. But I really wanted to share this spicy Korean gochujang tofu scramble recipe because it’s so delicious and easy to make. I make this often and it’s one of my favourite recipes. I would really recommend trying it out. It’s probably nothing like traditional Korean food but it was inspired by Korean food.

I would also recommend checking out the video version of this recipe if you’re interested. It’s probably a little easier to follow:

Ingredients

1 block of tofu

Soy sauce

Gochujang

Red pepper flakes or ground red pepper or paprika

Ketchup

1 white onion

Seasame seeds

Spicy pepper

Salt (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat a little bit of oil on a non-stick pan for a minute and then add in some scrambled tofu. You can crush the tofu roughly with your hands till it has a scrambled texture/look.Spicy Korean Gochujang Tofu Scramble Recipe
  2. Let it cook till it starts to get golden brown.
  3. Chop one onion and add to the scramble and let it cook with the tofu.
  4. It should look golden brown like this when it’s done.Kimchi Tofu Scramble
  5. Mix one tbsp of gochujang (or however much you prefer if you would like to add a bit more or less depending on your spice tolerance), 1 tsp of light soy sauce or liquid aminos, red pepper flakes or red pepper powder (optional), 2 tsps of water, one or two spicy peppers chopped into small pieces and the secret ingredient- one tsp of ketchup. It really helps bring out that sweet and sour flavour. Add more water if you want it to be less salty and vice versa.              Spicy Korean Gochujang Tofu Scramble Recipe
  6. Add the sauce to the tofu and onions and let it cook till everything is well coated and the sauce has thickened up.                                                                            Spicy Korean Kimchi Tofu Scramble Recipe
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and/or green onions. Serve with rice and kimchi (optional) or seaweed (optional).                                      Spicy Korean Gochujang Tofu Scramble Recipe

    1. It is, so delicious and so simple to make!

      1. Have you tried black salt? I’m in love with black salt and tofu or tempeh (or any veges) it provides such a delicious flavour.

        1. Yes, I love black salt. Indians use it for a lot of stuff especially when we eat veggies raw. Like in salads. It tastes really good that way.

          1. I haven’t tried it on raw veggies – will have to try that with my lunch today

            1. Let me know what you think, I really love it with raw foods.

  7. Thanks for sharing this recipe! By coincidence, I just had Korean food last week. It was a one hour wait for a table!

    1. Omg one hour is crazy but I love Korean food so I get it, I would have waited too lol!

  8. Looks good! What time should I show for dinner? 😆

    1. Lol, whenever is good- I’ll just leave the front door open 😆

      1. OK, sounds good. Don’t throw a fit when I stroll in at 2:00 AM 🤣

        1. 2am is fine, just don’t be walking in at 8am when I’m trying to sleep 😴

          1. I’ll tiptoe if I do. 🤫

            1. Appreciate that 😅

              1. I’m considerate like that 😄

  11. Hello friend-! I enjoyed reading your post. I subscribed. See you often. Have a happy and bright day.^^*

    1. Thanks so much, really appreciate it.

  12. As a lover of tofu this recipe will be next!
Love Korean cabbage and some of their other vegetables.
    Thanks ♥.

    1. Hope you enjoy it, this is probably my favourite way to eat tofu now. That and Korean braised tofu. Oh yeah, I love Korean veggies. Korean radish is so good too especially as kimchi. Thank you ☺️

      1. I will give you a feedback for sure.I a 30 mins drive from.a lovqly Korean supermarket and fine restaurant.

It’s one of those bitter cold weather that you might have experienced while in Canada 🇨🇦. ❄
Have a great and safe day.

        1. Ah yes, some of those winters are extremely cold. Actually, the first year I was there was one of the coldest winters in years which is just my luck lol 😂

Korean stores are the best for ingredients, so much more affordable. Hope you got everything you need. Have a great day too and stay safe as well 😊

  13. looks good, thanks.

    1. Thanks so much.

  14. This is interesting PooG!!

The good news is I don’t like tofu and I don’t understand whats Gochujang is. Upon searching I’ve found that it’s a chilly paste. So, I am not sure if I can replicate that.
    Haha

soy sauce? I hate that 🙁

    1. Urghh you’re the problem, who hates soy sauce?? 😫

      1. Soy sauce tastes like cough syrup that’s gone bad 🤢

I tried it only once, and said nope!!
Chinese food and Korean food contains a lot of soy sauce, that’s why I’m not a fan.
Good thing is even after eating all that soy sauce, you are still sweet

        1. You may have tried the wrong soy sauce or maybe you didn’t cut it with water first. Did you try dark or light soy sauce because that also makes a difference.

Lol you’re definitely the problem, soy sauce is the best. I love it so much. We buy a huge bottle of soy sauce the size of a wine bottle every year lol. You can substitute soy sauce with liquid aminos. You may like that more.

          1. I think the dark one!!

It gives strange taste to the food.
I got the tiny bottle and even had trouble finishing that 😔

            1. The dark soy sauce isn’t so good since it’s extremely strong. The light one is better but I’ve noticed Indians always use the dark ones for Indo-Chinese food. For Korean food, we use light soy sauce and the taste is very different.

              1. Ohhhh!! 😲
                Still don’t like it tho.

  15. This looks so good. Unfortunately I won’t be able to find the sauce or tofu here.

    1. Thanks so much, you can use any protein not necessarily tofu. I use roasted chickpeas sometimes too. For the gochujang sauce you can make it by mixing red pepper powder, soy sauce, rice flour and water. If you’re interested I can share the exact recipe. I used to make my own before it was available in stores in Nairobi.

      1. That will be very kind of you. If there’s a site where the recipe is, you can share its link. Many thanks my friend

        1. This is the recipe I always used, it’s so easy and the ingredients are also easily available: https://youtu.be/NANvbn5HeHg?si=oQ6v1eJWu9-5w0da
