A Writer With No Words Left To Write

A Writer With No Words Left To Write

A writer with no words left to write

Just a has-been cliché now

A writer who needs a drink

What a surprise to none

Greatest novel ever written

Stuck in her head

Yet none of the words ever flow

When will it be her turn

To be the greatest writer the world has known

Just like she always dreamed

When she was a little girl

So she sits at her desk and waits

For the words to come

Even though she knows

They never do and never will

About “A Writer With No Words Left To Write”:

This is yet another response to Kevin’s No Theme Thursday post. I swear, it’s like this image was made for me. I’ve been dealing with a little bit of a writers block and that’s what I currently look like except I’m not that good looking as the girl in the image lol.

The writers block is also why I have been sharing more poetry recently. I haven’t had too much inspiration or energy to write about other topics. And for me, poetry is a bit easier. It just comes naturally. And the prompts help me feel a little more creative.

What did you think of “A Writer With No Words Left To Write”? If you’re a writer, do you ever experience writers block? If so, how do you deal with it? And what advice would you give someone experiencing writers block? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. Or simply just stop by and say hi!

  1. Some acclaimed authors tell us to just write and the story will appear eventually.

    1. I think that’s good advice. Just keep writing and eventually you’ll get to where you want to be.

      1. Yes indeed. It’s true for me too

  2. I think the poem is a bit sad, she wants create the best work of her career.

    1. Yeah, I think so too. 💔

One thing is, keep writing. Even if it feels dry and clunky, keep going. I wrote only about TV shows for a while because it was all I could write about. One line in front of another, I “wrote my way out” etc.

    <3

    1. Yeah, I think that’s the best way to beat writers block. We can’t stop writing.

  4. Beautiful, Pooja… as Stephanie said, don’t let up! 😎

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” ~ Hemingway

    1. Thanks so much! That’s a really accurate quote from Hemingway.

  5. I’ve taken a hiatus a few times well but lately I realised the hiatus is not working out so I am pushing my way through the writer’s block and forcing myself in a sense to write.

    1. I think forcing yourself to write helps a lot, at least in my experience. Even if it’s not the best thing you’ve ever written it keeps us on our toes.

  6. not writers block, but runners block, a life block…..not the best of advise, when I was freelancing, I would just start and write whatever…..I wonder if it’s like running….you start off, even just walk, for maybe just 10 minutes, and if it’s not happening, just think of quiting…..eventually things just click in….

    1. Yeah, I think it’s very similar to writing. You just keep writing no matter what and eventually you feel inspired again.

  7. Great piece of writing by you. I never have writer’s block because I am always willing to write down stream of consciousness drivel. Eventually it triggers something I like but nothing even remotely close to the greatest writing “the world has ever known!”

    1. Thanks so much. I always enjoy your writing and I think it’s pretty great.

  8. Sometimes we have wordless moments leaving us in nothing state.. nicely expressed Pooja

    1. Yes, absolutely. Thanks so much.

  9. I grok your poem today. In my case, it is not so much writer’s block but a lack of motivation. I am hoping it will pass after a short break and some rest.

    1. I feel like that too, I’m not feeling inspired to write. Yeah, get some rest and maybe you’ll feel better.

  10. The poem surely captures the reality experienced by writers at some point or the other…writer’s block is often a psychological response…lack of motivation, something troubling us in our unconscious, stress…well so many possible reasons 🙁 but on a positive note it is temporary and it is important to acknowledge that one is suffering from writer’s block … as usual thanks for this interesting posts Pooja!

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I think it’s psychological too. Thankfully so, it never lasts too long. Thanks! ☺️

  11. Totally relatable. In my early days of writing I would experience writers block. But I have more recently begun to approach it differently. Writing is a part of my daily schedule, even if it’s journaling. Therefore I do not allow myself to say that I have writer’s block, just on some days, I may not have something I’m willing to share with the world.🤭 As for my storytelling and poetry, much of it is about sticking to the plan, and getting into character. Exhausted minds aren’t creative, so sometimes a rest is needed. So continue with the poetry, and of course journal everyday, but do take a rest from the creative process if that’s what you need to do. You’re just going through a creative reset, the mind never ceases to be imaginative.
    You got this Pooja G.

    1. Thanks so much. I think writing is one of those things that you need to practice daily or you lose your touch and end up with writers block. Thanks again 😊

  12. One time I wasn’t sure what to say so I started to write poetry in a made-up language by writing what I thought words sounded like in foreign languages. I ended up focusing on sounds and rhythm of language instead of meaning. It was an interesting exercise.

    1. That’s so interesting and a fun exercise to get back into a creative space.

  13. Except… you are NOT that girl. You haven’t been sitting around waiting to be a writer. You’ve been blogging, practicing, honing — writing.

I can’t write poetry, because it intimidates the hell out of me when every word has to carry the weight of boulders and resonate like bells. You wrote an entire novel in your poem here, while I’d be floundering around with thousands of words.

You ARE a writer. (And, I’m sure many would agree, loads more attractive too.)

    1. Absolutely, I’m so glad I pursued blogging and other forms of writing. It helped a lot. Thanks so much for your encouragement, really means a lot to me.

  14. Many times, we don’t have anything to write or we do have thoughts but we are not able to put those thoughts on paper. It’s better to not write anything than to write mediocre content for the sake of writing something.

    1. Yes, that’s how I’ve been feeling.

  15. I’ve hit a writer’s block for many months now! And writing scares me. Isn’t it crazy that what I love to do actually gives me so much fear?!

    1. Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that but honestly I can very much relate. It’s so sad but it happens. Hope you’re able to move past the fear and write again soon!

  16. yet you still come up with such fantastic weaves, Pooja …
to some of us who might still be a little new to writing…much hope here😉

will be back to read your comments 🤭….some wonderful advice shared here🤍

    1. Thanks so much, yes do come back to read the comments. We have very wise bloggers here leaving great comments 😊💕

      1. all great advice and shares as I read through.

pleasure and thank you for these shares, Pooja 🤍

  17. That’s one thing I never seem to suffer from. Quite the opposite.

    1. That’s so lucky!

  18. The read itself is a nice testimony of the gifted flair for writing. I remember a satire long published about ‘what to write on’. The writer kept on discussing many topics of different nature from all spheres of life and ended up writing a good piece just like that. Nice one and my best wishes. Thanks.

    1. Thank you so much. That’s so interesting and a good way for the writer to publish something without actually writing something.

  19. I am definitely feeling this.

    1. So sorry to hear that. I hope we both feel better soon.

      1. Likewise, good lady.

  20. I know this feeling only too well, but we should never say never…

    1. Yes, I think the best cure for writers block is just to keep writing. It may not be our best work but that’s okay.

  21. I felt the same while looking at the image that it was made for me 😄. I think the only way to come out of a writer’s block is to keep on writing 😊

    1. Haha yes, that image is so relatable for us writers. True, even if it isn’t our best writing we need to keep writing just for the sake of practice.

  22. I think all writers experience writer’s block! For me, with my crazy busy life, I do something else for a while until it passes.

    1. Yes, I think most of us experience it once in a while. Taking a break definitely helps!

  23. nothing is something
as anything is anathema to us

    lmao

      1. write. every day. say hey i m here in kenya. can ya dig it. lmao

        1. Lol, yup I plan to do just that

      2. we cannot choose our family. i hope your s is kinder than mine.

        1. It has its pros and cons.

          1. as per mr johnson. call the md cos she s comin back and you know what for aye aye o shake ya foundationz. and the like

  24. If you are a writer you will experience this.

A writer cannot be same everyday. They cannot feel the same everyday.

Different people get excited and inspired with different thing.

I hope whatever you are dealing with, ends soon and you can find some peace.

    Take your time dearest friend.
Do what you think is the best. I won’t be telling you what Pooja has to do. But, I will tell my dear friend to listen to her heart.

    1. and Yes, poem!!

      Love it.

      I also love your work.

You are my favorite blogger because you make me experience following 10 different bloggers at the same time.
      So unpredictable and so efficient.
Whenever we meet, I will take your autograph. I need that book tho.

and Okay will gift you some sukhi kachoris (I had one recently brought by my uncle from Gujarat. He lives there. Can’t have much, as diet doesn’t allow ).

      1. Thanks, so glad you enjoyed the poem. And all my other random content lol.

I have some sukhi kachoris right now since I got a bunch from India when my dad went but thanks. Yes, they’re super unhealthy but one every few days is okay.

        1. and you didn’t came to India???

          How rude is that 🙁

          1. If I could have, I would have 😭

    2. Yes, I think most writers experience this occasionally.

      Thanks so much.

  25. Another great poem! 👏🏼👏🏼
Every writer aims to be the greatest writer or write the greatest story ever told.

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, I think we all aim for that 😊

Hope that things will even out for you. Good that you are able to be inspired by the pictorial post.

    1. Thanks, I hope so too.

  27. The struggle is so real!

  28. It seems like the words won’t come when we want them to the most!

    1. Yes, that’s exactly the problem!

  29. I really feel for her because I’ve been in this situation more than once. I think the advice to keep writing anyway is good. Sometimes it’s the hardest to get going but once you do, hopefully, the words come.

I love this piece and I love what you did with NTT. 🧡🏵️🐈

    1. Yeah, I think most of us writers have been in that situation. True, I think all we can do is keep writing and one day we’ll write something great.
      Thanks so much 😊💕

  30. how well I know this Pooja! Did you write it for me.. lol💓

    1. Haha, I wrote it with all of us bloggers in mind! 😅

  31. Hi Pooja, when I am looking for inspiration, I read other people’s works, watch a play or dance, listen to music, go to an art museum, walk in nature, quilt, or clean and organize the house. We can’t force it. Inspiration comes while experiencing other art forms.

    1. That’s great, yes sometimes we have to just take a break and breathe. Thanks so much. I’ve been trying to read more because that helps a lot.

  32. When I was a kid I wrote the greatest novel ever written when our family was captured by pirates on a fishing boat where they forced us to fish, cut bait, and write bawdy novels for their entertainment, and the ship got caught in a violent storm. They were very demanding and expected a profound romantic comedy and murder mystery about a mermaid Mystery Writer who lived next door to Jessica Fletcher and Colombo the detective. I finished the novel and it was the Greatest Novel Ever Written. But a huge whale swallowed the whole ship with us on it. Everyone was lost at sea except for me because I had hidden a hack saw in my book. I escaped the whale but was unable to save the book. I’ve tried to get over my fear of the ocean by writing on boats but the whale keeps stealing my book just as I finish it. The whales get bigger and bigger and now there are Sharknados. I think I’ll try whisky and offer it to the pirate lady when she comes into port with Port She’s got a writer’s block and tackle that she uses to lower the life boats.

    1. Whiskey makes everything better, in my opinion.

  33. I can totally relate, Pooja, but we should never give up. Eventually the words will come. 💕

    1. Thanks so much and yeah I think it’s important to keep writing even when we don’t feel like it 💕

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  34. I loved it Pooja! You are a very good poet! 🙂 <3

    1. Thank you so much!! ☺️

  35. Hey Pooja, I hear you loud and clear, writers block is very real. Recently I found a book in a thrift store which has a lot of writing prompts, it’s for mental health mostly but also for mindful memoirs. Anyways, the name of the book is A Mindful Way: Eight weeks to happiness by J. Seward-Magee. I find it super helpful for overcoming a writers block. Another book I’m reading right now is Educated by Tara Westover, it makes me analyze and write about things long gone. These two have a tremendous impact on me so I am sharing them just in case.

    1. Thanks so much for understand what I’ve been going through. Both of those sound interesting, I’ll keep them in mind. I’m glad you found them helpful.

      1. The memoir is a bit tough, just saying

        1. Okay, thanks for letting me know.

    1. Thank you.

  36. Nice job! I think poetry is a good form to play around with when you’re experiencing writer’s bock as it gets some words down that encourage you to keep going, plus you can get your thoughts down in free form.

    1. Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. True, poetry is great for writers block because it gives you a lot of space to be creative.

  37. Great poem, and narration. I think I am struggling with this right now, and forcing myself out of this. But I don’t drink – lol

    1. Thank you so much. I’m so sorry you’re struggling with it too but keep writing, it helps. Even if it’s not your best stuff or you don’t feel like it. Lol, don’t start drinking then it doesn’t make anything better 😅

      1. Lol – I don’t drink regardless. Lol. But, thanks for the support and advise. I certainly planning to get back into blogging on WordPress.com

  38. I can definitely relate to this! 🙂 Sometimes the motivation dries up and it can be a real chore putting pen to paper. Taking a break in nature to disconnect in a fresh environment doeshelp reset for next time <3

    1. Thank you! Yes, unfortunately so. Taking a break really helps a lot especially when dealing with burnout.

      1. P.S. I’ve recently privatised my site because of an uptick in spam commentators, but I’ve sent you a fresh invite if you’d like to continue reading the weekly flashfics 🙂

        1. I noticed that and accepted, thanks for sending it. I definitely want to continue reading your posts. Spam is out of control these days so I understand.

  39. “When will it be her turn”

    When indeed? Why wait?

  40. I feel that way sometimes, the words don’t come, I can’t even think of a story to tell. The thing is when I finally sit down and write even a sentence or two, the words start coming, the ideas flow and before I know it, I have a new post! Keep writing. Hugs, C

    1. Absolutely, I think we just need to start writing or at least try to write and we’ll get back into it. That usually happens to me too. Thanks!

  41. Can absolutely relate. Been stuck in this state for years now. Just finding my way out.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that and hope you’re able to find your way out.

  42. Wonderful poem here Pooja in response to Kevin’s No Theme Thursday Post💯😀

Also, as a Writer I have to say, there is no shame in just staring at a blank screen or a piece of paper with no words to write, that means your mind has not yet received the idea needed to be transformed in writing form. Remember Pooja that writing a novel is not a walk in the park, it needs patience, time and effort💯📕📔💡🕯

The best way to eradicate the Writers block, it is to just give it time, read more books, listen to music it does help boost your mood💯💖

Lastly, I want to insert this quote by Walt Disney that can help a struggling Author📔 or Writer with writing
“All our dreams can come true only if we have the courage to pursue them” 🙏🕯

    1. Thank you so much. True, we all have moments of when we feel like we don’t have anything to write and that’s okay. Writing is definitely hard work ✍🏼

That’s a great quote, thank you for sharing it☺️

  43. A writer is bound by language as to what words they can write, sometimes there just isn’t enough words to describe what you are thinking or feeling

    1. Yeah, that’s the problem. Something there just aren’t enough words.

      1. It’s like the times I am with my psychiatrist and I try to explain how I’ve been feeling but there’s nothing in my vocabulary that justifies my experiences. Sometimes you use a word that’s close to the meaning but it dumbs down the severity or emphasis of what you mean. Who are we to create a new word though?!?

        1. Can relate, I have the same problem.
