Airport Fashion Essentials: How To Look Stylish & Comfortable While Traveling

So, you’re finally visiting your dream destination which you have been planning for ages. By now, you might have booked the flight tickets, planned your itinerary, and packed your suitcase. Right? But have you thought of what you’ll wear at the airport? Well, today I decided to write a post to help you with that discussing how to look stylish and comfortable while traveling.

Let’s be real: long-haul flights are no more than a nightmare. You have to be seated in one place for long hours. So, the outfit you wear can make a huge difference here. You need to find the right balance between comfort and style for a smooth travel experience. If you’re unsure about what to wear at the airport, then we’ve got you covered! In this article, we’ll discuss some airport fashion essentials that will make you comfortable and stylish at the same time. So, let’s discuss some of them:

1. Opt for Comfortable Clothing

When it comes to airport fashion, comfort is something that you shouldn’t compromise. While you want to wear your favourite outfit at the airport, if it doesn’t offer you comfort, then there’s no point wearing it. The best way to make yourself comfortable at the airport is by opting for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton and stretchy materials like jerseys that allow you to move freely. For example, you can wear oversized t-shirts with comfy leggings or relaxed jeans. On the other hand, during winter, you can pair oversized sweaters with joggers or athleisure pants for a laid-back yet stylish look. Just remember, prioritising comfort doesn’t mean sacrificing your unique style. With these outfit options, you can still look stylish while maintaining your comfort level. So, prioritise comfort when selecting your airport attire, and you’ll be ready to travel in style without compromising on comfort.

2. Layering is Key

Layering is a smart strategy for airport fashion because it allows you to adapt to changing temperatures while adding style to your look. You can start with a basic top like a t-shirt or tank top, then add layers like a lightweight cardigan or denim jacket. This way, you can easily adjust your outfit as needed throughout your journey. Additionally, layering adds depth and texture to your ensemble, creating a more dynamic and interesting look. Remember to choose breathable fabrics to prevent overheating and opt for pieces that can be easily removed or added to suit your comfort level. By mastering the art of layering, you can stay cozy and stylish from takeoff to touchdown.

3. Choose Comfortable Footwear

When talking about airport fashion essentials, how can we miss the importance of wearing the right footwear? After all, the right footwear is crucial for a pleasant travel experience. For example, slip-on shoes are a popular choice among most travelers out there. It saves time at the security checks and you can kick them off and relax. Additionally, sneakers, loafers, or ballet flats are great options that offer both comfort and style. Try to avoid wearing shoes with stiff soles or high heels, as they can cause discomfort and fatigue. Instead, prioritize footwear that allows for easy movement and won’t leave your feet feeling sore or tired. With the right footwear, you can stay comfortable and stylish throughout your journey, from check-in to touchdown.

4. Don’t Forget About Accessories

Accessories are the perfect finishing touch to your airport ensemble, adding both style and functionality to your look. Consider practical accessories like a spacious tote bag or backpack to carry your essentials with ease. Moreover, statement sunglasses not only protect your eyes but also add a touch of glamor to your outfit. Also, a chic scarf can keep you warm during chilly flights and double as a stylish accessory. However, it is advisable to avoid bulky or cumbersome accessories that can weigh you down or cause inconvenience during security checks. Additionally, avoid overly flashy accessories that may attract unwanted attention or make you a target for theft. So, these accessories will help you ace the airport look and allow you to travel in style.

5. Prioritize Functionality with a Carry-On

When it comes to your carry-on, prioritize functionality. Choose a bag with multiple compartments to keep your belongings organized and easily accessible. Opt for a lightweight yet durable material like nylon or canvas that can withstand the rigors of travel. Consider features like wheels and a telescopic handle for easy maneuverability through airports. Remember to check size restrictions to ensure your carry-on complies with airline regulations. By prioritizing functionality, you can travel with ease and have everything you need at your fingertips.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed my tips on how to look stylish and comfortable while traveling. Mastering the art of airport fashion requires a careful balance of comfort, functionality, and style. With these outfit options mentioned above, you can ensure you look and feel your best while traveling.

  1. I’ve started wearing Hoka sneakers any time I have to fly now. They slip right on and off, are super comfy and are super light weight. I used to wear my combat boots, but once they started making everyone put their shoes in the xray machine, they were out. Trying to unlace, or even unzip, those suckers is miserable. And then putting them back on again? No thanks!

    1. Oh yeah, those are really annoying to take off and put back on. You have to wear something you can easily do that with.

  2. Fully agree!!! That’s how I do it.

    1. Thanks and glad you agree!

  3. I will travel soon. This time I will not forget to bring my passport. A long time ago, I forgot it at home and missed my flight. The other time, I forgot my hat and sunglasses in a hotel room… I always forget something hahaha. 😅

When I go on a trip, I wear a sweat suit and sneakers, have a suitcase and small bag, my passport (for international travel) and a wallet. I order a glass of wine on an airplane and sleep. The flight will be over 18 hours with one stop. I will not stay awake until I arrive at the final destination…😴✈

    1. Oh no, yes a passport is the most important thing. One time, I forgot my rings at the airport but an employee/security person chased me down and gave them back to me which was so sweet of her.

I dress pretty much the same as it’s more comfortable. I used to fly for like 20 hours when I was living in Canada and wanted to visit Kenya. It was crazy and I mostly slept throughout too. 😴

  4. Good points, Pooja. I’ll be traveling this year, and there’s so much to think about these days.

    1. Thanks so much, yes a lot to think about these days when traveling.

  5. Excellent read and being prepared is everything! I have many funny airport mishap stories; we’ll have to write one soon. Thanks Pooja <3 for the inspiration! 🙂

    1. Thanks and you should so share those! 😊

  6. Thanks Pooja. I’ll bookmark this to have at hand for when we travel later in the year. 🤗

    1. My pleasure and hope they help 🤗

  7. Only traveling twice a year but you are spot on with your advice. I might add a sleeve that carries your laptop, chargers, ear pods, etc. it makes it easy to grab it out of your bag once you are in your seat or if needed while waiting for the plane or for delays 🙂

    1. Oh that’s a good addition, makes it much easier to carry all your tech stuff.

  8. That is good advice. On a few occasions I’ve had female company wearing high-heels when we were doing a lot of walking. That seemed to hurt a lot after a while. I think you can wear high-heels if you really want to but have confortable shoes in a bag if it doesn’t work out. The man can carry the bag.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, heels are tough when flying since there’s so much walking. Your suggestion of bringing an extra comfortable pair of shoes is a very good one.

    1. Thank you!

  9. Do these apply to guys, Pooja? I don’t think we even think twice about the small things… 2 pairs of inner and outerwear packed in a suitcase and we’re literally done, lol… but yes this is such a good post as usual, Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much! Well, I think it depends for everyone. A lot of the men I know like to dress up even on vacation. Plus, some travel for business so what they wear is very important.

      1. oh yes, business travel requires a lot of well decked up attire, else on holidays…well it depends, casual or thereabouts, or maybe its just Indians in general

        1. Yeah, maybe that’s it because Kenyans dress up a lot. At least the ones I know.

  10. Great post! I remember once, waiting on a flight from Toronto to London, England and a couple in first class had the most stylish and comfy looking clothes. They knew how to travel. Layers and comfortable FTW!

    1. Haha they were probably used to traveling and knew how to dress for it!

      1. No doubt! 😎

  11. Good advice Pooja. Comfort is most important on long haul flights.

    1. Thank you, yes comfort is key to a good flight!

      1. I found this out when traveling to Seattle from Lahore via Dubai. It used to take 18- 22 hours.

        1. I took such flights once a year when living in Canada and you learn pretty fast to dress comfortable lol.

          1. Yes, once was enough for me. Next time it was comfortable shoes, soft pants and baggy shirts

            1. Yes, that’s what I generally wore too.

              1. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  12. I detest long haul flights. Thankfully my long flights now are just a quick hop back home to Trinidad. The temp is the same as south Florida so I can wear whatever. But back in the day, flying to the Europa was an 8 hour gig. Layering and comfy footwear were mandatory. Good travel tips Pooja G

    1. Yup, they’re no fun. I used to fly for like 16 hours and then another 4 hours when I was living in Canada but visiting Kenya. It was awful but being comfortable helped. Thanks so much.

      1. Yeah, that would be rough for me. 20 hours? ☠️☠️

        1. Yeah, like 17 hours to Ethiopia and then a couple of hours from Ethiopia to Kenya.

          1. Geez… That’s torture I could watch two seasons of Game of Thrones on that flight. 😊

            1. I usually just slept 😅😴

              1. I can’t sleep when I’m traveling. Doesn’t matter the mode of transport. Weird. 😞

                1. My dad is like that too, I on the other hand sleep throughout lol 😂

                  1. 😄 so lucky

  13. True and interesting, thanks.

    1. Thanks so much.

  14. I hope to do some more travelling soon. A lot of world out there!!

    1. Yes, so much to see!

  15. Comfortable clothing and shows are importante.

May sure to wear something that can keep one comfortable for many hours.

    Great share.

Still finding if it’s a guest post or not

You always mesmerize me dear PooG

    1. Yes, being comfortable is so important when traveling 😊

  16. I haven’t really traveled on planes much, but the same tips can relate to long car rides too! I have traveled a couple of times the 20+ ride to Florida, where I have some family. Comfortable clothing is a must as well as layers. If you have children and they are young, think about what makes them comfy too. You don’t want to listen to screams of unhappy children all the way to or from your destination, especially if it’s more than 10 hours away!

    1. Yeah, with long flights being comfortable is so important. Yes, that’s a good point if you have kids make sure they’re comfortable during the flight too!

  17. 20+ hour ride! Sheesh! 🙄

  18. Excellent tips! When I traveled, it was mostly for business. I tried to wear comfortable clothes and still look professional. Getting off a plane and going straight to a meeting was challenging. Plus, I lived in Florida and traveleing to northern cities was also a challenge during the winter months. Layering was key.

    1. Thank you! Oh that’s a tricky one. Traveling for business and having meetings right after makes it harder to dress comfortable.

      1. It does, Pooja. I am glad those days are over. Whew!

        1. I can imagine, must have been stressful.

  19. Very good point ☝️☺️

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  20. insert the gillan here
where we gonna go no no wheresa love
which air port darlin none nary
    so i could wear
    nothing not goin there
    anyways
    ha ha ha

  21. I always choose comfort over style while traveling 🙂

    1. Same here 🙂

  22. For me the bag is the most important thing. If I have a cumbersome bag it hardly matters what I’m wearing because I’ll feel clumsy. I like to keep as simple as humanly possible. Another really useful post!

    1. That’s so true, I feel that way too. Keeping it simple is key. Thank you!

  23. Quite an interesting post & handy tips…thank you for that, Pooja 🌟

    1. Thanks so much 😊

      1. My pleasure, Pooja 😊✨

  24. You find interesting things to blog about.

    1. Thanks so much.

  25. Thanks, Pooja. Good tips! 20 hrs… oof 😜

    1. The flight from Canada to Kenya was crazy when I was living in Canada 😭

  26. Ha! This will come in handy as I take longer and longer trips. So far, my longest flight has been 4 hours

    1. 4 hours isn’t too bad, it’s more than 20 hours altogether from Kenya to Canada and those were tough 😭

      1. I can only imagine! Eventually I’ll travel to Asia so I’ll experience one of those 20 hour flights someday

        1. Oh yeah, that will be a crazy long flight. You’ll have a stop over in Europe though? That will help a lot.

  27. Great tips! While I don’t really mind about being stylish at the airport, I agree that comfort is absolutely essential, especially on long flights! My go-to airport outfit now is leggings, sneakers and an oversized hoodie!

    1. Thanks! Yes, comfort is definitely important- leggings, oversized tee or hoodie and sneakers are my go to as well!

  28. Agreed. Excellent points. Also functional and easy to carry luggage are essential to fly through busy airports. Comfort always but not too many accessories that take too long to take off and put back on…learned that one the hard way!

    1. Thanks so much. Oh yes, accessories can be a hassle if you’re wearing too many!

  29. Comfort is key, as is layering! Loose and layered clothing lets me breathe and remove (or put on) bits and pieces depending on the temperature both in the airport and on the plane. I too love an oversized hoodie, but over a loose playsuit for comfort. As I’m getting older my ankles are starting to get puffy, especially on long flights, so leggings are a no-no for me – urgh!

    Great travel tips Pooja!

  30. Great tips for travel! Layering is great to adapting to different temperatures.

    1. Thanks so much and yes that’s so true.

  31. Great post, Pooja!😊♥️🌹

    1. Thank you! ☺️❤️

      1. It’s my pleasure! 💕🌷

  34. Excellent article Pooja.

  36. Do you sale this items?

    1. Not at the moment.

        1. You’re very welcome ☺️

  37. I would agree with a lot of this regarding points on comfort. I will say that there’s this idea floating about that the *only* comfortable clothing is either athleisure or oversized. That’s simply not true. Sure, in a situation like an airport it might make practical sense but, too many people these days dress in sportswear as if it’s the only choice. Have you noticed how everyone dresses in nothing but sportswear since 2020, as if they’re just following the herd? It’s like a uniform. I want people to be individuals, not conformists. On the practical notes mentioned I would tend to agree with a lot of what’s said.

    1. That’s true, it’s important to find your own style.

  38. Great blog…the informations was useful as well

    1. Thank you so much, glad it was helpful.

  39. very good post Pooj! I enjoyed this one! 😀

    1. Thanks so much!
