Hanging On By A Thread

Hanging on by a thread

In a world gone mad

Are they all out to get you?

What’s false and what’s true?

Hanging on by a thread

In a world gone mad

Can’t trust anyone, not even myself

They’re all watching me, elf on a shelf

Hanging on by a thread

In a world gone mad

Begging to feel something

But numb to everything

Hanging on by a thread

In a world gone mad

Lies and credulous crowds is all you need

Without that you will never succeed

Hanging on by a thread

In a world gone mad

I just want to give up but

I have this feeling in my gut…

About “Hanging On By A Thread”:

I feel like I haven’t written a poem in such a long time. I’ve actually not been posting as much as I generally do because this month has been really busy in other ways. My life has been so incredibly busy and on top of that I need to edit my manuscript and make sure it’s good enough to send to the editor. So I didn’t post on days when I was too busy. I never want to force myself to post because that takes the fun out of it.

This poem? It’s about sometimes feeling like the world is upside down. But the ending is a little more optimistic. Because deep down I know that there’s always light even when it feels like we’re being encompassed by darkness.

What did you think of this poem? Do you something feel like you’re hanging on by a thread? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi.

  1. In this individualistic and consumerist world, trusting ourselves is more than a choice. Nice to read you. Greetings.

    1. I feel exactly the same way. Thank you.

      1. Brilliant. A hug. Have a wonderful day! 🤗

        1. Have a wonderful day too! 🤗

  2. timely…..I keep trying to ignore news, and hope for the best…but it’s like a train crash, sometimes you have no choice but to look. but yes, there’s a lot of crazy hate in the world

    1. Same here, I always try to ignore the news but occasionally you see something and just wonder where all this hate came from.

  3. Very well written, Pooja, there’s much truth in your words. I graduated High School in 1979, as far as I am concerned this is not the America I grew up in. So sad. 😭

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I just see so much hate and lack of empathy in the world. I don’t know what happened in the last decade or so. It’s so sad. But thankfully there are still lovely people like you out there ❤️

      1. Aww thank you so much, Pooja! You are so very sweet! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰

        1. You’re very welcome! ☺️❤️

          1. 😊😊😊

  4. It’s coincidental we just read the article about fake news in class. Seems like we are on the brink of a collapse, but honestly it happened a few times already, we somehow survived and will probably be just fine this time. Good news, you are not alone!

    1. Yeah, there’s always ups and downs in the world we just have to stay strong. Yes, we are absolutely not alone thankfully!

  5. I am always hanging by a thread. This is a very well written. Being an empath, I pick up on a lot and worry about a lot more than most people and feel a lot more than most people so I totally get it. 😊

    1. I know the feeling, I think when you’re an empath your emotions are so much stronger and that can be overwhelming at times. Thanks for understanding 😊

  6. Best wishes with your manuscript! 📝 Your poem relates a feeling that most can relate to at one time or another, when the stresses and negativity of life feel overwhelming.

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, I think we all feel overwhelmed sometimes but thankfully life goes on 😊

      1. That it does. 🍂 You’re very welcome, take care.

  7. I love this poem. You aren’t alone in feeling like this.

    1. Thanks so much, yes I think many of us are feeling this way.

  8. I’m sure we all can relate to this, Pooja. 💖📚

    1. I think so 💕

    1. It’s a difficult journey but yes we have to learn to keep moving forward even when we’re at rock bottom.

  10. The poem resonates with me a bit this week while dealing with bureaucracy that is trying to automate everything, but the software is not quite there yet. Thanks for sharing.

May your threads be strong and self healing and well anchored in your faith in yourself.

    1. That sounds really frustrating, it sucks you’re dealing with that. Hopefully, everything turned out okay.

That’s a lovely thing to say, thank you.

  11. 🙏🌹🙌🏻🌹👍

    Aum Shanti

  12. A heartfelt And Moving poem Pooja. Blogging should never become a chore.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, I never want to feel like I’m blogging because I have to. I want to enjoy it.

      1. Yes, and many bloggers leave blogging or take extended breaks because it stops holding that magic for them.

        1. Yes, I’ve noticed many of them do that.

  13. Ooooooo
    If it all goes wrong
    🎹🎵🎶
    Darling just hold on

  14. The world’s has certainly gone mad.

    1. It really feels like it.

  15. The world has lost its mind, and I dread what happens next!

    1. That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, I’m scared of what the future holds.

      1. I know. I find myself crying when I look at babies and small children, and what they might have to endure…

        1. That’s why so many people are reluctant about having kids these days. The world has become so dark, we don’t know what it’ll be like in a decade or a few decades. It’s going to be very difficult for the younger generations.

          1. I think so too, Pooja… and that is a crying shame…

            1. It is because we could work to make the world a better place but people are choosing not to.

              1. Apathy will be the end of all of us, I fear…

  16. yes tis such
    less is much
    life
    cradle to grave
    what won t kill ya
    resist
    evoke your inner gupta!

    1. Yup, we just gotta keep pushing forward!

      1. sounds so reo !

  17. This is so relatable, Pooja, and I think many feel the same way. The world has gone mad. 🤍

    1. Thank you. Yes, it really does feel like the world has gone mad sometimes. Things are odd right now. But we’ll power through together 💕

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja. Yes, we will power through together. 🤍

  18. Really well written Pooja.
Hanging by a thread describes my situation and I tell myself things will get better everyday.

    1. Thanks so much. That’s what I tell myself too, it’s the only thing that keeps us going sometimes. The hope that things will get better.

  19. I think we’re in crossroads of change Pooja. That’s why it seems all chaotic. Being optimistic and focusing on inner wellbeing might be things we should always be working on.

    1. True, I think a lot of changes are currently happening which can be causing the chaos. Agreed, I think focusing on our inner wellbeing is always so vital.

  20. Thank you for that.

    1. Thanks, just wanted to share how I’ve been feeling since I know many of us are feeling a bit on the edge these days.

      1. It’s much apprecited, so many of us feel a similar way.. I feel like “the powers that be” are going to have to start addressing some of the issues the average person faces today, they can’t sweep it under the rug anymore.

        1. I agree, I think it’s gotten to a point where too many people are just too unsatisfied.

  21. We do live in a crazy world, and I think it’s always been like this. We humans are a mess. But, as you say, there’s also light, and we have to hang on to that.

    1. Yes, it does feel like we do. Humans are very imperfect but thankfully we have great things to offer the world too. Absolutely, we have to remain hopeful.

  22. Very cool. This poem gives me Avril Lavigne vibes 🙂

    1. Ooh thanks, I love her 🙂

  23. I like the hope in the end. That feeling in the gut is what makes us carry on.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, that hope is what keeps us going.

  24. A personal reaction to the world as it seems to have become. This work reminds me of the way young people especially reacted to the Cold War when it was first full on. The world was mad, yet what to do. Maybe there is something, something like hope, maybe in that gut feeling. Well-done, Pooja! Thoughtful work to say the least.

    1. Yes, for my Honours I studied the New Left movement in the 60’s and 70’s and see many similarities with how the younger generations are feeling right now. It’s fascinating how history seems to always repeat itself. I think there’s always hope, we just have to work harder to make sure the darkness doesn’t win. Thanks so much.

      1. (“Like” appears not to be working for me again, sigh.) These words really resonate: “make sure the darkness doesn’t win.” For a motto or agenda, I think this is both telling and terrific. I’ll take it as a birthday present.

        1. Sorry to hear that, I read on your post about the like issue. Hopefully, it’s okay now. Thanks so much, yeah that’s how I like to think about those dark times when I feel helpless.

  25. Poem resonates with me!

    1. Thank you, sorry you feel that way too but thankfully we’re not alone!

  26. Powerful poem, Pooja. I really liked the ending,
“I just want to give up but
I have this feeling in my gut…” Yes. 🙌🏼 I will never give up.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, we have to keep staying hopeful and fighting 😊

  27. A valid comment on the way life can be

    1. Thanks so much.

  28. I am sure the world is upside down, but hope is the last thing I will give up. This poem is powerful and relatable. Thank you Pooja!!

    1. Yes, it sure feels like everything is upside down right now but we need to remain hopeful that things will get better. Thanks so much!

  29. Very well written. My husband is listening to music in the other room and I read this as song lyrics. 🤣😂🤣 I can totally relate to the feelings of being adrift in a bizarro world. Hopefully things start to level out for all of us soon.

    1. Thanks so much. Lol, I guess that makes this lyrics more than poetry 😅 I hope so, fingers crossed 🤞🏽

  30. Your poem resonates because you’re right, the world has gone mad! But there is light, so we have to keep hanging on. I wish you all the best with your manuscript! 🌷

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, it does feel like the world has gone mad these days! True, we have to keep staying hopeful 😊

    1. Thanks so much 😀

  31. This was beautiful…defiant… vulnerable..sincere.. authentic. Beautiful writing Pooja. 💜💜

    1. Thanks so much 💕😊

      1. You’re welcome my dear.

  32. When I think of hanging on by a thread I think of puppets in a string. Or those toys with strings so they can talk like Woody in Toy Story. But, aren’t we all born with a string, are umbilical cords? Interesting to contemplate. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.!

    1. That’s so interesting, I didn’t even think of it in that way. Definitely something to think about. Have a great weekend!

  33. This is a very deep and meaningful poem, I’ve had times where I felt like I was hanging by a thread but I like that you ended on an optimistic note because theres always a light at the end of the tunnel ✨️

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, even when we feel like we’re at our lowest there’s always hope.

  36. Beautifully written 🧡💖💚

    1. Thanks so much 💕

  37. Great poem, although wouldn’t slapping someone be more theraputic?
    🤣😎🙃

    1. My lawyer says I can’t slap people anymore 😅

      1. Go ahead. I’ll tell him you were with me at the time. It’ll be impossible for them to convict you. 🤣😎🙃

        1. The perfect alibi 🤔

  38. well expressed to those moments down , Pooja…
all the best with your manuscript 🤍🌷

    1. Thank you so much, nice to see you back 😊

      1. always a pleasure…lol good be back…again😬

        🤍🌷

  39. I like the way you continually pull the reader back to keep the point of the poem. I want to escape the feeling ‘hanging on by a thread’, but you’re like, “Nope, you need to feel this to get through it.” Or something. 🙂 Anyway, A+. 😀

    1. Thanks so much. I think the feeling of ‘hanging on by a thread’ is really constant which I wanted to show in the poem. So glad you liked the poem 🙂

  40. Beautiful piece of poetry, Pooja! ❤️💞

    1. Thank you so much! ☺️💕

  41. Oh girl! Life be lifen and sometimes this is exactly how we feel. Great poem

    1. For real, I think we all feel that way sometimes!

      1. Girlllll! It’s rough out here sometimes!

  42. I like this poem because sometimes that is what life feels like. Hanging on by a thread. We never know what to expecct.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I think life feels that way sometimes for all of us.

  43. Loved your poem 🙏 and it is true, even in the darkness there is a light 😊

    1. Thank you so much and yes there’s always hope 😊

  44. Great poem and repeat. Pooja❣️s… the world has gone mad and those are the days I’m hanging by a thread. Throw the rope and we can swing together. It’s been a lot like that around here lately but it’s all good. Oh wow, lot’s of editing for you and I really can’t believe you’re done with your book!!! 🥳

    1. Thanks so much! 😊 Oh absolutely, lol yes we’re both hanging on by the same thread 😅 It’s over 70k words so the editing was crazy!!

      1. You’re soo welcome. It’s time we take up knitting 🧶 😂
Wow, just wow!!! Good for you!!

  45. Good poem Pooj. Yes, because of my life from the past, sometimes stress and sadness hit me again with a sudden rush. So yes, the hanging by a thread feeling does happen occasionally but thankfully not as often as it did.

    1. Thanks so much. Having trauma from your past is difficult, we sometimes feel emotions more deeply. But glad you’re better now.

      1. Yes, thank you.

        1. You’re very welcome.

  46. Brilliant Pooja, I loved it! Very hopeful at the end too which is a nice thing, xo
