I Just Had A Bit Of An Epiphany

I recently had a bit of an epiphany. So, I was just sitting down and scrolling through social media editing my manuscript when I had a bit of an epiphany. Being batshit crazy is the best thing you can be as a writer. Like seriously, think about it. As writers we have to be obsessive, hyper-vigilant, hyper sensitive and most likely very emotional or at least very connected with our emotions. If someone describes themselves as being all those things (especially obsessive) you would be like this person is a bit of red flag. Which I absolutely am. But as a writer all those qualities are so incredibly helpful. It helps you find even the slightest discrepancies in your writing, it helps you be connected with your characters.

Therefore, my conclusion is that most writers are a bit of a red flag and that’s okay! Okay, fine that’s not my conclusion it’s just what I say to make myself feel better. My actual conclusion is that we may see parts of ourselves as unwanted or red flags but they exist for a reason. Like if you met me in real life you would almost definitely think I’m weird. But as writer, my “quirks” help me so much. The good and the bad combine to make us who we are. And sometimes the bad stuff is a blessing in disguise. Keyword is sometimes so please universe stop sending me bad stuff. This is enough- I’ve learnt my lesson!

Shameless Plug Incoming

All The Words I Kept Inside By P. J. Gudka

It’s that time of the month (no not that one) where I make another shameless plug for my book in the name of marketing. My poetry collection, All The Words I Kept Inside, is currently on sale on Amazon. I would be super grateful if you checked it out if you haven’t already. It would make the perfect holiday gift for someone you really dislike. Yes, you read that right… Just kidding, it would be the perfect holiday gift for everyone, but particularly people you dislike… You can find it here.

  1. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. You aren’t crazy, Pooja! 😂❤️

    1. I can be occasionally 😜❤️

      1. I’ll bet you are fun! 🤩

        1. I’m a lot of fun as long as you don’t rub me the wrong way 😅

          1. I’ll be careful where I rub. 🤭

  3. The bad stuff develops our character. 😉

    1. Yes, exactly 😊

  4. It’s ten times worse if you write a lot of fiction. Characters never stop talking and making themselves known. 😆😂🤣

    1. THIS! I’ve been writing more fiction lately and my brain just does not shut up anymore. It’s like the characters talk constantly and then I’m like well I should write that down but I’m in the freaking shower 😅

      1. Girl!!! I’ve had whole partners be like, “Are you listening to one of your characters talking now?” cuz I’ll space out and just kinda ignore them. It has never been intentional, I was just trying to make sure I heard everything.

And then, I’d quickly type it up on the notepad feature on my phone or rush to write it down. Lol. It sucks when you’re driving or in the bath or out with friends and you can’t cater to the characters at that time. 😆😂🤣

        1. Omg that’s hilarious 😂 Lol yes it’s the worst when you can’t write it down and for whatever reason I get the best ideas while showering 😭

  5. I think all these qualities make you a good writer and editor too. But definitely not a red flag 🚩

    1. Haha thanks so much, I still feel like it can be a slight red flag sometimes 😅

      1. You’re welcome 😉

  6. I think most person with any kind of artistic inclination is at least a bit “off”. Probably some of us far more than others. 😄😄

    1. That’s true, we’re all a bit odd but to be fair that makes us extra fun 😅

      1. It makes us extra something, that’s for sure 😄😄

        1. 😅😅😅

  7. I think writing, or creating any sort of art, is mostly about observation – really close observation. And if anyone looks really closely at anything for long, they will most likely go at least slightly insane sooner or later. So artists tend to look at things through the lens of insanity. It’s a bit of a chicken vs egg sort of thing ….. which comes first (the art or the madness) is hard to say, but certainly the two things go hand in hand

    1. Yup, that’s absolutely right. I don’t know which came first either but artists and insanity do seem to go hand-in-hand.

  8. Stay in control and don’t let AI take over your writing 🙂

    1. I’m trying my best, AI is everywhere these days but I’m trying my best to avoid it.

  9. Thank goodness for our ‘peculiarities’. They make us unique… or is that just a ‘cliché’? 🙂

    1. Haha even if it’s a cliche it’s the truth. Peculiarities make us so much more fun.

  10. It helps to be quite a character I guess, but I also think it takes so much work to actually be a good writer, work and dedication. I know lots of obsessive ppl with brilliant ideas yet lacking the work ethics. As well as ppl with great work ethics lacking ideas and/or dedication. It’s almost like simplifying it a bit, it’s never that black and white in reality

    1. That’s so true. A lot of people have great ideas but are never able to do the work and vice versa.

  11. That’s a great way of putting it, Pooja! I come from an extended family’s of mostly bkue collar but artistic red flags, basically! My mom was a real “starving artist”, not literally but she was an artist who raised me as a single mom and we were mostly poor and sometimes on welfare. But she also gardened (and taught me how) so we always had fresh produce at least. She also painted, wrote poetry (but not for pay) but did do occasional paid modeling and theater work and did jobs part time math tutering, and at times did custodial and warehouse work. While I was often bullied and made fun of by other kids I also learned a lot that most kids don’t and made friends. What’s always seemed weird and strangely inadequate to me was certian aspects of the mainstream “clean cut” American lifestyle… Lol!

    1. Thanks! How interesting, you must have had a very unique upbringing. When we grow up in a more non-traditional way, the traditional upbringing feels odd and restrictive.

      1. Yes, I sure did. It was quite difficult in many ways but taught me a lot of important things!

  12. Ha ha your book is a perfect gift for people you love as well as people you dislike. It’s like Yellow Rose from Line Pint, a beer I love, it is my bad weather beer and my good weather beer.

    1. Haha yes, it’s just like that. Actually, I think the beer would go great with my book too lol.

  13. 🙏🌹👍

    Aum Shanti

  14. I absolutely agree. Most days.., okay, especially days when I’m writing, I realize that I tap into my characters emotionally and sometimes it takes a while to regain that feeling of being myself. And we are hypersensitive. No shame in that btw. I think have have multiple personality disorder, or at least something close to it 😜
    Fun post Pooja. 👏👏

    1. I do that too, I always thought I was weird for it but apparently it’s pretty common for creative people to be that connected with their characters/art. Lol I think us writers always have a lot of personalities living in our head 😅
      Thanks ☺️

      1. Yeah..we are certifiable 😜 you’re welcome Pooja.

Congratulations on having your book on Amazon!

    1. Thank you so much!

  21. I think we’re all crazy in our own ways. But you’re right – it helps us with writing. But you’re not a red flag. You’re too kind and sweet. I get you. I hope that the universe would take my cue too! Sometimes is not equal to always!

    1. Oh absolutely, we’re all crazy just in different ways lol. Aw that’s so sweet to say thank you. Lol yes, please take the hint universe!

      1. You’re most welcome. Yes, universe! Get the hint already 😜

  22. Quirkiness is what makes us interesting, Pooja, and a characteristic helpful to writers. Plus, it helps to be crazy to live in this crazy world. LOL

    1. I couldn’t agree more, it’s a crazy world we’re just matching it’s crazy haha!

  23. Love your sense of humor. I still have not checked out your book but will soon. Have been downsizing bc of my big move but hope to purchase soon. Proud of you! I find you inspiring.😊

    1. Aw, thanks so much I really appreciate you saying that. You inspire me so much too, I want to save up so I can travel and experience the world like you do 😊

      1. Aw, thank you so much. I appreciate you saying that!

        1. You’re very welcome!

  24. I find that being Bat-Shit Craazy is helpful in all parts of life. I can’t say it’ll work for everyone, but it’s great for me. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Oh absolutely, being crazy is the best 😅

  25. Yeah, that’s why I say I love to straddle on the line of “losing it” and “sane” it helps sometimes 😂

    1. Lol that fine line is the best place to be 😅

  26. I think, if all of us are honest, we are all a bit of red flag at times. And there’s nothing wrong with it. We are unique, quirky and sometimes cranky…after all to err is human. 😉
    Great write, Pooja. ❤️

    1. That’s very true, we all have our strengths and weaknesses but that’s what makes us human 😊 Thanks so much ❤️

  27. This made me nod in agreement and laugh. Thanks. I will be sure to get a copy of your book once our postal strike is over, hopefully soon.

    1. Thanks so much, I so appreciate that. I did hear about the strike, hopefully it’ll be over in a couple of days. The book is on sale till the start of January so you have plenty of time.

  28. Writers as red flags. Yeah, I think that’s true. We bear red flags, at least. Obsessions or obsessiveness, as you say. But that our hard qualities might serve also makes sense. Plus eventually, I suppose, we air our eccentricities and in that cannot hide them, even for acceptability. Like hobbits going on adventures. In the USA, it’s Thanksgiving–so Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Yes, we definitely have some red flags but most writers need them to write. And I think we should absolutely continue to air our eccentricities- our differences and weirdness is what makes us human. I hope you’re having a lovely Thanksgiving!

  29. I think writers are going to be a different breed from the run of the mill. We see life a little differently.

    1. Absolutely, I think we see life as well as everything around us very differently. I also think it’s because writers are more observant.

  30. Lovely Pooja Good morning and happiness my love

    1. Thank you so much, have a lovely day.

  31. You have very good points and understand this,”but particularly people you dislike” but I hope you do not forget that you are a precious person, a talented artist, so do not lose your self esteem. ”but particularly people you love very much” that is better! Much appreciation to you!

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words. I was just kidding when I said that but it’s very sweet of you to say that!

  32. A very interesting and wholesome perspective. I’m thankful for you, Pooja 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed it 🙂

      1. You’re welcomed, friend. Glad you’re feeling creative 🙂

  33. It’s the “weirdness” that makes you stand out. Keep embracing that Pooja.

    1. I couldn’t agree more, thanks so much.

  34. “It would make the perfect holiday gift for someone you really dislike.” 😂🤣

I would add a weirdly keen memory to the list of writer attributes. It helps flesh out characters, experiences, details.

    1. So true, we remember everything when it comes to our writing but tend to be forgetful sometimes too 😅

  35. Red flags in your professional life as long as they don’t spill over! As a fellow obsessive, I say lean into it and enjoy what comes from it!

    1. Yes, exactly as long as we don’t let them affect our life!

  36. wow this is a great epiphany actually… thanks i feel better with my red flags lol!! i dont write books but i should. when i worked at a restaurant i would make stories about the people who came in for example: a mother and her daughter and the daughter was really mad at her mom. i started to make a story.. more like “i think this is what’s happening to them right now” and went on and on until my cousin snapped me out of it like “CALM DOWN how are u making a story from just seeing these strangers fighting” LOL i only do that out loud to people im comfy with but im always doing it to myself in my head. 😬😬

    1. Thanks so much. Oh yes, maybe a book of short stories based on those!

  37. My fellow Jedi this is one of your posts that made me chuckle but also relate a bit though I don’t want to think of myself as a red flag lol

    1. Haha thanks so much. If it helps we all have our pros and cons and that’s okay.

  38. I’ve always been crazy, but it’s kept me from going insane.

  39. LOL. You’re right, Pooja. Creative is crazy.

    1. Haha yes, it sure is.

  40. You are hysterical! It’s an amazing book from a creative red flag crazy! 😂🚩🚩

    1. Lol the red flags just make us better writers so it’s fine 🤪🚩

  41. Weird…nooo! You are fantastic!

    1. Aw, thank you!!

      1. You’re welcome

  42. This gave me a good laugh, Pooja, and absolutely we must appreciate our diverse qualities, the questionable along with the fine. Think how boring life would be without them! BTW, on the subject of my review (er, I mean, your book), I believe I said that I consider it required reading for anyone who is dealing with someone experiencing depression. If you’re not familiar with this condition and want to understand it, this is your book (and it’s short, too! 😉 ).

    1. Haha glad you enjoyed the post. Absolutely, our unique qualities make us more fun. Life would be so boring if we were all the same.

Your review was amazing, thank you again! 😊

  43. I wonder if I hallucinated commenting here! This was so funny and lots of truth to your epiphany, I believe anyway!

    1. Lol that happens sometimes, I read a post and I feel like I commented but then I realise I was just thinking the comment but didn’t actually post it. Thank you!

      1. It happens most to me when I’m at work and make the mistake of opening WP on a break or something, reading part of a post or in emails!

        1. Oh yeah, it happens when you read the post as email.

  44. Hit the nail on the head with this one, Pooja! ❤️

    1. Thanks so much! ❤

  45. We NEED even more crazy people. Just like these Niles Barkley lyrics: “I bet your crazy just like me.” I’m grateful for the crazy people but in truth, don’t like to ‘hang out’ with them. More HONEST crazy folks would be even more beneficial. LOL 😆 It’s okay, heck even good to be ‘crazy’ just be honest about it. 😁

    1. Haha I agree, the world would be boring without all the crazy people 😅

  46. This is such a fun and relatable post—I’m definitely here for the ‘red flag writer’ energy! You’re so right that the traits we sometimes feel self-conscious about are often our greatest strengths as creatives. Being obsessive, hyper-sensitive, and emotionally connected is exactly what allows us to write stories and characters that feel real and impactful. Plus, who wants to be boring when you can be fascinatingly weird?

Also, congrats on All The Words I Kept Inside! I love the humor in your ‘shameless plug’—definitely makes me want to check it out (and maybe gift it to a few people, for reasons TBD 😂). Keep embracing your quirks—they clearly serve you well!

    1. Thanks so much! Exactly, sometimes we feel like we wish we didn’t have certain traits but that’s what makes us unique and can be used to our advantage.

Lol glad you liked my shameless plug, I assure you there will be many more in the future. As I mentioned it makes a great gift for certain people in your life… 😉😅

  47. I’m such a weirdo that I stopped fighting it and put it in the name and I’m lovin’ ittttt

    1. Lolll the best thing to do is to embrace your weird side!
