How To Promote Your Blog Posts Without Spamming

There are so many amazing things about blogging but unfortunately spammers/spam comments are not one of them. In fact, they are the one thing about blogging that most of us agree we can do without. Well, that and the constant changes from WordPress lol. I do understand though that sometimes people just want more traffic and engagement on their blog. And are perhaps going about it the wrong way. I’m not making any excuses for spammers but I thought I would share a post about how to promote your blog posts without spamming to help people who are looking to promote their content but don’t know the correct way to do so.

Blogging is a lot of fun as is but having a community to connect with and get feedback from your writing makes it even better. And I believe that’s why people often try so hard to promote their content. It really does make a difference to find bloggers that enjoy and engage with your posts. However, I believe some go about it the wrong way and to be honest that’s not always their fault. I have seen a number of articles online encouraging bloggers to engage in spammy behaviour like leaving their links in the comments section of other blogs. If you are someone who does that, please stop. You’re doing yourself and your blog a big disservice because all you’re doing is annoying potential readers and making sure they never turn into actual readers followers.

Instead of spamming people, here is how to promote your blog posts without spamming other bloggers:

Socialise

One of the best way to promote your blog posts without spamming is to genuinely engage with other bloggers. People here are extremely friendly and social for the most part. I rarely meet WordPress bloggers that don’t want to engage with their readers. So, instead of leaving those annoying spam comments asking people to visit your blog or blog post/s leave them a genuine comment instead about their content. Make some small talk and get to know them. It’s very likely that this will be enough to get them to pay a visit to your blog as well.

Ads

If you perhaps don’t have the time or energy to visit other blogs yourself, you can always try paid ads. However, be warned. WordPress promotes Blaze as a great way to get more traffic onto your blog. However, that traffic does not equal engagement or even clicks. I’ve written multiple posts on my experiences with Blaze and why I would not really recommend it. You can find the first one here and the second one here.

You can also try out Google Ads. I haven’t tried it myself but I have heard good things about it from clients that noticed a decent increase in Search Engine views while using Google Ads. It’s up to you of course. But personally in my opinion you don’t need to pay for views and engagement unless you’ve exhausted all other options first.

Algorithm/SEO Friendly Content

If your goal is to grow your blog and increase your traffic and engagement, you need to know at least the basic stuff when it comes to SEO and the WordPress algorithm. I already have posts about SEO and the WP algorithm which I have linked below so I won’t waste your time repeating all that stuff again on this post. But I want to emphasise why these two are important for those that may not be familiar.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and the reason this is important when it comes to growing your blog is that if your posts are SEO friendly, Search Engines like Google, Bing and more will push your content to its users. This will help you bring in traffic without having to actually do anything other than publish SEO friendly content.

The algorithm is what WordPress (and other platforms) use to figure out your post and what audience is right for the post. If your post is written in a way that will make the algorithm think it will be valuable to readers, it is much more likely to push your post to other WordPress users. Which will of course bring in more traffic and engagement.

Guest Posts

Guest posts are another great way to promote your blog posts without spamming anyone but still getting your content to the right audience. WordPress is a big platform, whatever the topic of your blog is I’m sure there are other blogs that share content about the same or a similar topic. Reach out to them and ask them if they are currently accepting guest posts. If they say yes, share a guest post on their blog. This will help a whole new audience to read your blog post. And since they’re already interested in that topic some of them might stop by your blog or even give your blog a follow.

Challenges/Prompts/Awards/Tags

There are a lot of popular challenges, prompts, awards and tags that go around on this platform. Most of them are open for anyone to participate in. If you are someone that is looking to meet more bloggers and get your content out there these are a great way to do so and I would recommend participating in as many as you can. Especially if you’re a new blogger that doesn’t really know people on here yet. This is such a great way to socialise.

Conclusion

Those are my tips on how to promote your blog posts without spamming other bloggers or content creators. I hope these tips were helpful. And you are now able to focus on the right way to promote your blog.

  1. Good article

    1. Thanks so much.

  2. You are right, my dear. This is really annoying and not helpful. It would be better if they shared their comments. This way, others would be attracted to them and they would provide useful content. Thank you very much for sharing. 💞🙏🏻

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I very much agree. If one leaves a honest, genuine comment people will be more likely to visit their blog 😊

  3. Spam is on the rise in spring. I find promoting tiring, it feels like a job LoL

    1. Lol yeah it can be very time consuming.

  4. I won’t lie, I saw this and my first thought was: “OMG, was I spamming when I advertised using Blaze!?” 😅

It only took a moment to read and realize that you were talking about ACTUAL spam, lol.

If you have something of value to add when commenting, then comment. Most comment options include a personal link field, if it doesn’t, then I was never upset when someone would link back in their comment.

That thought aside, you are on POINT with your explanation!

Spam gives people the impression you just produce spam. SEO-friendly content can benefit a website greatly! Good content with the right keywords can often generate more interaction than an ad campaign.

I love that you noted that some of us (I am guilty of this) do not have time for socials and opt out of using them, limiting the scope of our reach. I always figured hiring someone to manage my social media is something I would elect for when I am profitable enough to afford it.

Keep up the great work outlining so many valid points in your posts!

    1. Haha yeah don’t worry, I meant actual spam.

Yes, exactly. Comment when you have something to say don’t do it only for the sake of prompting your blog!

Sharing on socials does help a lot but I understand why people don’t because it can be quite time consuming. A lot of my clients simply don’t have the time to do it all.

      Thank you so much!

  5. I had a couple of interactions with a nice blogger, who unfortunately, would always include a link to her latest post, even though she used the wp/gravatar system so simply clicking her name would take you to her site. eventually I told her I would be removing the links and I never heard from her again.
    Good times :-/ sigh….

    1. Oh wowwww, that sucks especially because you were being quite polite by mentioning it to them. Some people would have just blocked her. That sucks that some people only interact for the sake of leaving links.

  6. This part!

“but unfortunately spammers/spam comments are not one of them. In fact, they are the one thing about blogging that most of us agree we can do without.”

I actually called a new blogger out in my comments for a whole, “Hey, I’m trying to grow my blog. Follow me for a follow back” pitch. I politely asked them to please stop doing that, it’s called “Spamming one’s comments”, and this person was so green to blogging, they actually didn’t know the meaning of that; that what they were actually doing was in fact spamming my comments.

Needless to say, she responded in a very trollish way and told me to block her, which I found rather weird. I didn’t follow you, I had no interest in you. You found my blog. Lol. You block me and keep it moving.

Thank you for this post. I hope the people in the back hear you, especially this whole new wave of CBD and CBD Roll-On/Hemp spam accounts popping up. 😫😩😆

    1. Omg yessss the CBD people are so annoying lol! 😂

I’m glad you called her out, I feel like people need to hear it. Too many of us just deal with spam comments passively which sometimes enables them to continue. Lol that’s so weird of her, for sure she should be blocking you if she has an issue why would you blog her when she’s the one commenting on your posts 😅

      1. Exactly! Very weird. I was actually thinking, “This must be a bot.” 🤣😂😆

        1. Lol genuinely so weird 😅

  7. Thank you Pooja. That sounds like good advice to me.

    1. Thank you so much.

  8. Great guidance, Pooja. You are so generous to share your impressive knowledge!

    1. Thank you, happy to share what I can!

  9. Great post, thanks for the information and insights

    1. Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

  10. These are good tips, Pooja. I have been blogging for over 10 years and it has only been in the last 2 that I have seen a large growth in page views. But the increase in visits doesn’t necessarily mean more engagement. Like you, I believe one important way to get more engagement is to be social and visit and interact with other bloggers. Of course that takes time and everyone wants it to happen fast. But like anything else, you have to build your presence. Hope you are doing well!

    1. Thank you so much. I see, that’s very interesting. So true, I think people don’t understand that views are great but engagement is better. It means people are finding something to talk about with your content. And yes, socialising does take time but I think growing your blog organically is best. Spamming gets short term results but not long term ones. I am and hope you’re well too!

  11. This is great information, Pooja! I have never used Blaze because I’ve never heard anything good about it.

    1. Thanks so much! Honestly, I can’t say one good thing about Blaze either 🤷🏻‍♀️

  12. Thanks for those observations Pooja

    1. Thanks so much, happy to share them.

  13. Great post, Pooja. Thank you for sharing this information.

  14. Very good tips Pooja. I think reciprocal visits are very useful in socializing

    1. Lolll I was about to block you so fast 🤭 Thank you so much! 😊

      1. Hahaha! 🤣 You’re very welcome of course as always! 😊💕

  24. I find often if I comment on a post, my current post gets more views. Readers are curious about what other bloggers are doing.

    1. Yes, engaging with other blogs really helps increase traffic. People will very often visit your blog if you leave a genuine comment on theirs.

  25. Thank you for your generous in sharing your blogging experience, Pooja.

    1. Happy to do so, I hope it helps other bloggers out.

  26. Excellent post, Pooja! Thank you for sharing! ❣️

    1. Thanks, happy to share it! 😊

      1. Most welcome, Pooja.

  27. I have heard and read about SEOs, but it’s always about search engines like Google or Bing. I never considered its importance right inside WordPress. So, I had to read your link on how to make an algorithm friendly post; super interesting! (I hope the algorithm likes me, haha.) Thanks Pooja. 😊

    1. Yeah, it’s much more than that although that’s what most people focus on when it comes to SEO. I hope that post helped! 😊

      1. Yes, it did. Thank you!

        1. My pleasure!

  28. This is great, I have so much respect and appreciation for you, my dear.

    1. Thanks so much, that’s very kind of you to say.

  29. Good article 💯

    1. Thank you 😊

  30. I particularly appreciate your thoughts on SEO and challenges. Challenges are a simple, fun way to grow your audience.

One additional thought for new bloggers: don’t get in a hurry to grow your blog. Looking for shortcuts is the fastest way to obliterate your reach via the algorithms. You might find a way to game them, but they seem to be rather unforgiving when they find out those tricks.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I agree those challenges are a great way to get involved in the WordPress community and get your blog out there.

Very true, it takes time and consistency.

  31. Facts, I just launched mine and this article has at least enlightened me with a lot.

    1. I’m so glad the article was helpful. Thanks.

  32. but spamming is so much easier 🙂

    1. Well, that is true lol 🙂

  33. Great post, Pooja, lots of great ideas. I’m interested in the guest blog approach…but how can you approach a fellow blogger without appearing presumptuous, self-serving?

    1. Thanks so much. I guess, I would recommend starting the email out in a friendly way and then slipping in something about guest posting on their site. I would also recommend adding why you think your guest post would be valuable for their readers.

  34. Fabulous information, Pooja! I’ve found that by getting involved with challenges or prompts, I pick up new followers. By responding to their comments, I gain a new connection and friend. 💞

    1. Thank you! Yes, they’re a great way to get more traffic and following as your biog post gets you out there in the WordPress world. It’s always nice to make new friends! 💗

  35. Very informative

  36. Great suggestions… and yes, .m particular annoyance, are those spammers in my comments section.
I’m getting a little better at the SRO stuff as well since reading your posts on the subject

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, spammers are certainly an annoyance. And glad your SEO is getting better 😊

  37. Thanks for this comprehensive post with your great tips, Pooja. 💞

    1. Happy to share it 😊💕

  38. A really helpful post! Thanks for these great tips! 🌷

    1. Thank you, happy to share them!

  39. That all sounds like reasonable advice. I’ll admit, I did not actually think to wonder what SEO was, or meant, till now. But, then again, I’m content to know I’m a weird, fringe topic writer anyway.

    1. Thanks so much. That’s fair, most people don’t think about SEO much actually when it comes to blogging.

      1. My pleasure. 🍰
