What No One Tells You About Blogging

How To Market Your Blog | Woman typing on laptop with notepad on table | how to make readers return to your blog | Sharing Some More Reels | What No One Tells You About Blogging

I’ve been reediting older posts. And it inspired me to write this one about what no one tells you about blogging. When I first started this blog, it was completely different than what it is today. The reason I started it was because I had a lot to share. I had a lot to write and no outlet. This blog was going to be my outlet to share posts about psychology- which is what the blog was about at the time since I was studying psychology.

But one thing no one prepared me for was the WordPress community. Instead of focusing on just my writing, for the first time in my life I became a part of a community I loved and could fit in. I made friends, I learnt so much and it really helped me fight my fears and get out of my shell.

Blogging becomes a constant and like a safe space, at least it has for me. Whether I’ve had a good day or bad day, I know you guys are always here for me as I am for you.

So, I’m here to tell you what no one tells you about blogging- it’s so much more than just content. It’s about connection, it’s about finding your people and it’s about finding yourself. It’s about having a place where you can look back and relive your memories. Blogging became a huge part of my life and I’m forever grateful for you all.

I recently published my first book and would be very honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. I enjoy reading your posts, and thank you — they have given me something, maybe motivation or courage – to write my own blog. That is something that 6 months ago I would have never thought possible. Again, thank you!

    1. Omg that’s amazing, I’m so happy to hear that my posts motivated you! Definitely keep going, I really enjoy your posts and with blogging consistency is key.

  2. A big part of it for me has been working through issues from damage done some time ago. Blogging is an anchor for me so I can moor at certain points

    1. That’s great, blogging can really help us better process things and move past them.

  3. Yes the wordpress community is really nice and one of the more welcoming online spaces . My niche is makeup and hair but I’ve made friends here and even got to meet up with someone in real life as well .

    1. Yeah, I think this is the only platform where I feel like we can truly be ourselves and there’s rarely haters or trolls. Oh nice, that’s so cool you got to meet some irl too.

  4. I echo your thoughts on finding community here. It certainly surprised me how supportive everyone is. I thought my purpose here would be to sell my books, but instead I found a community of thoughtful and kind people. I enjoy writing my thoughts in posts, and am always grateful for the kind feedback I get. Kudos to you for developing your voice online!

    1. I think so many of us created blogs for a different reason and ended up getting immersed into the community more than we thought we would. It’s really nice to have this sort of support and kindness. Thank you!

  5. Awesome post, thanks

    1. Thanks so much.

  6. This post reminded me why following you was one 🌈 of my best decisions ever

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  7. I agree. I feel the same way. It’s not just a social media BS but a lot more than that .
I was wondering if you ever got a degree in psychology. I wanted to get one but never had the guts to go back to school. Sigh

    1. Exactly, people are more authentically themselves here and there are no haters or bots or trolls for the most part.

I never did either, I ended up majoring in history instead. But maybe someday…

      1. Fingers crossed 🤞

  8. And I am here for you, Pooja! I’ve been blogging for at least ten years and have met so many wonderful people on WP, some of which we still follow each other after many years. They become real friends regardless of never meeting in person. I love that! Some of those friends are in other countries and the same thing happens for me on Instagram too. Be well my wonderful friend! 😊❤️

    1. Exactly, it’s easy to make friends here and the largest majority of bloggers are so kind and easy to get along with. They really do become like real friends and we form connections with everyone here. Thank you and you as well! ❤️☺️

      1. 🤙🏻😊😊😊🥰🥰

      2. 😊😊😊😊

  9. Connection over content is SO TRUE – I couldn’t have anticipated it either – yay you for being in tune with the wider world! And all the best for 2026 my friend! Linda xox

    1. It’s one of those things you don’t realise till you become part of the community! Thank you and you as well, I hope 2026 is amazing for us all!

  10. 🙏🌹

    1. True, it’s like free therapy and helps us communicate/process things better. I’m definitely more extroverted thanks to blogging too. I was sooooo introverted when I started this blog, I laugh thinking of that version of me. That too, it’s great meeting people from around the world and realising at the end of the day we’re all just human. I’m glad WP has given us all this outlet and a place to be ourselves unapologetically.

  12. That is my experience too. A wonderful and supportive community- more like an online family here.

    1. Yes, exactly- it feels that way for sure.

  13. I so agree, Pooja. WP is just like a social friend. I do enjoy the widespread variety of people and content. The only downside, if there is one, is that many of the friends I made when first I began my blog, no longer blog anymore. I appreciate that people move on, for one reason or another. However, along the way others have come, friendships have been created, and newness presents in some really original ways. All in all, it’s been a great ride…

    1. Yes, that’s true- sometimes we make good friends and then they stop blogging which can hurt. But all we can do is be grateful for the friendship while it lasted and make new friends.

  14. Yes! I did not expect to enjoy being part of the blogging community as much as I do, it’s been an unexpected bonus of blogging and probably why I’m still here 😂

    1. Same here, I was surprised but love the social aspects of blogging now 😃

  15. Ah yes… this is such a wonderful community. And zi coukd spend days just chillin, absorbing the energy of everyone else. Creativity is good for my soul. And we do get familiar with everyone, knowing bits about their personal life, and soon you realize that relationships are building.
I enjoy blogging… and I think it’s mostly due to the interaction with fellow creatives from all over the world.

    1. Absolutely, there are so many writers on here that inspire me and help better my writing too. It becomes like a real friendship since we share memories, talk about life etc. The social aspects is certainly one of the best parts of blogging.

      1. It moat certainly is.

  16. Funny enough, I was thinking about this exact topic the other day and started jotting down my thoughts. Why blog? For me, it began as something I simply wanted to try—a place to say what I want to say and to create something new as I shifted from work life into retirement.
    I do it for me.

Sure, I love when people follow, comment, or hit that little “like” button, but I don’t lose sleep over the numbers. I just hope that what I share from 60+ years on this planet lands with someone out there. Maybe it helps them understand what retirement really feels like, or what it’s like to pack up your life, move abroad, and start fresh with new places, new routines, and the occasional “Wait… what language was that?” moment.
And if someone discovers a great book because of one of my reviews, that’s a bonus.

In the end, the blog is my way of staying curious, staying creative, and staying connected—even if half the time I’m just talking to the internet like it’s an old friend who never interrupts.

    1. You know, as someone that studied history I always think of future historians going through all our blogs and being both fascinated and amused. I think that would be really cool. Blogging is definitely a great outlet.

    1. Thanks, glad you agree!

  17. Pooja, it is a wonder and you’re right, when starting a blogging one has no idea about the connections and the community they are about to enter into, about the enriching friendships, the engaging conversations and the sharing our thoughts and about our craft. A lovely post and reminder to us all!

    1. It was the same for me, blogging evolved into so much more and I think that’s the case for so many of us. Thanks so much!

  18. I started blogging to fill the void after I retired, and so glad I did. Not only could I be creative, I found the wonderful WordPress community. Learning and sharing with so many good people is most enjoyable. Bloggers like you, Pooja, make it a wonderful experience. 💖 Hugs!

    1. That’s amazing, I think it’s such a great way to stay active and creative. Thank you and right back at you. Hugs! 🤗

  19. it’s good to find a comforting niche.

    1. It really is.

Enjoyed this blog. Glad you found community here.

    1. Thanks so much, I am too.

  21. Establishing connections on this platform is something most of us have been fortunate enough to experience. However, we have to maintain those connections, and that will require a lot of work. To be honest, I’d say that the one aspect that I need to improve on is being more involved and engaged with this incredibly fascinating community of bloggers.

    1. Yes, it does take a lot of work to maintain the connections we make here. Maybe it’s something you can do more of this year.

  22. I love the WordPress community and the friends I’ve made. It’s crazy to think how many people you meet through blogging.

    1. So true, it’s so nice to meet new people from around the world.

  23. Because of blogging I connected with you my fellow Jedi 🙂

    1. It’s so wonderful to be able to connect from all over the world 🙂

  24. Thank you for this post. As a newbie blogger, this is information I didn’t know and am grateful to know. I look forward to experiencing more of this WordPress community. Great to read all of the comments about the WP blogging community.

    1. Thanks so much, I’m glad the post was informative. Once you grow a bit more and start interacting more blogging will become even more fun.

  25. I totally agree with you, it is about the connections and the community. Awesome!

    1. Yes, that’s a big part of it. Thank you!

  26. You said it so well Pooja and that is where kindred souls find each other.. you know soul mates.. lol Actually, some do! You have been a pioneer from the early days and we all admire your friendship and gifts, not to mention work arounds -:) and expertise!!! xx

    1. Haha yes exactly! Thank you so much and so glad to have met my writing soul mate here 🤭😉

  27. Yes we can learn a lot from the work and thoughts of others

    1. Yes and it can inspire our writing so much too.

  28. Very true. I am grateful for all that you share in your posts.

    1. Thanks so much, grateful for your wonderful comments too.

  29. For the first time ever, I had the most disturbing comment on one of my posts. It was truly horrible, but I realized there wasn’t much to do about it. 🙁

    1. Hey Stephanie, sorry to hear that. I think WordPress (or Jetpack, I guess) allows you to delete comments.

    2. Oh no, that’s awful. The first one is always the worst because you’re so surprised and caught off guard. But don’t pay it any mind, there’s always going to be mean people out there. Focus on all the good comments. 💗

  30. I’m so grateful for you, Pooja❤️

    1. So grateful for you as well 🥰

  31. I agree. Blogging definitely allows self growth.

    1. It does. Thanks so much.

  32. This is true, Pooja. I do feel I have friends here and also trusted sources of information. I love the community, and I appreciate friends, such as you.

    1. Appreciate you so much as well and I agree, we make connections here and it’s lovely. Especially compared to other online platforms.

  33. I agree with you about the community here Pooj. I spend a lot of time on Substack where I write a lot more content but here on WordPress is where most of my connections have been made.

    1. Yeah, I’ve tried Blogger but it wasn’t great for connection. Same with Substack. I know other platforms have their pros but for now I’m here for social aspects.

  34. The connection and support in this community is like none other. 💞

    1. Yes, exactly- that’s been my experience too. 💕

  35. What you say about blogging is so true; it does foster connection and is a safe space! By the way, I do love your blog – it’s awesome and always leaves me with something to ponder! 🌸🌸

    1. It really does and thank you so much, your blog does the same for me! 😊

  36. Awesome post ❤️ Thaks for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  37. Well, we have the feeling you idealise blogging. We are blogging now for more than 15 years and it changed. More and more blogs are a vanity fair and full of senseless infos. And more so the comments. We started blogging because our agents and publishers asked us to. Blogging became more and more a place where no discussions and hardly any critique takes place. Everyone finds their views confirmed; there is no progress in understanding. So blogging became boring and that’s surely one reason that it is a discontinued model. For all the young people we know blogging is an old people’s place in the net.
