Fun Ways To Travel That You’ve Probably Never Tried Before

Today, I wanted to share some fun ways to travel that you’ve probably never tried. Because as you know, I love to travel. Traveling is one of the most fun activities you can spend your life doing. Taking a few days here and there to see a new part of the world can open you up to so many exciting and exclusive experiences. It’s a lovely way to live, and while it can be a bit expensive, the memories you make are priceless!

However, if you’re traveling to the same places each time, there’s a good chance you’re getting a bit bored right now. You and your travel group are probably ready for some new experiences in new destinations, and you want to try out some new ways of getting around.

And that makes sense! Traveling has a lot to offer – there’s no point doing the same things again and again, no matter how fun they were the first or second time. So pack your bag with your favorite items, make sure you’ve looked up the weather forecast, and then plan a trip like never before.

Here are some fun ways to travel that you’ve probably never tried before but are totally worth trying out:

Do a Travel Challenge

A travel challenge can be anything. As long as it’s fun and gets you out of your comfort zone a little. For example, learning enough of the language that you can participate in a local’s conversation. Or you can try something like ordering an item off the menu at a local restaurant, that you’d never think about eating if you were at home.

Come up with quite a few little challenges like these and get all your travel partners in on them. The person that completes the most of them while you’re all away wins. And gets something like a cash prize or has the final decision on where you go next time!

Go on a Cruise

If you’ve never been on a cruise before, it’s probably high up on your bucket list right now. After all, it’s one of the most popular ways to travel.

Cruising takes you around the world at a slow and steady pace. It gives you time to stop off at some amazing port cities to grab a local bite and get some souvenirs. And then you’re back on board setting off to the next destination. It’s an incredibly luxurious way to travel!

However, cruising tends to be quite expensive, so you’ll want to save up for this option. Of course, the more people who are coming with you, the more you can split the bill, but this isn’t a reliable way to travel as and when you want to. Get the fund started now and then book the cruise for 12 months’ time.

Remote Camping

Ever fancied heading off to a remote location, setting up a tent, and living off the land for a few days? If you haven’t, why not try remote camping sometime in the near future?

It’s a specialist way to travel, but it’s great for people who love traveling as a group. You can rely on each other for certain skills (building a fire, pitching a tent, etc.,) and bond together as you spend your days at the base of a mountain or in the woods.

Remote camping is also good for wildlife and nature lovers. If you take along a drone, you can get some sweeping shots of the landscape and plenty of pictures of usually shy animals; you can click here for some details of the best model to pack.

Sleep on a Train

Sleeper trains are becoming very popular these days! You can get on the train super late at night, spend the night sleeping in a private cabin, and then hop off at your destination to spend the day. Once you’re all down, get back on the train and go home again – easy, simple, and a lot of fun!

Half the fun of taking a sleeper train is knowing you’re traveling in true style. Like the olden days. And that you’re taking your time experiencing the sights and sounds of the landscape around you. I would highly recommend trying out this form of travel. You can make a lot of memories on the journey, and then when you’re tired and want to head home again, you can sleep it all off on the train back.

The reason I added this one is because it’s on my bucket list. I’ve never been on a train before but hope to travel on one at some point. And I think sleeper trains are incredibly convenient for travellers so I hope to use one of those someday. Maybe when traveling in Europe.

Get Someone Else to Book Your Trip

If you want to be truly surprised, and do something truly spontaneous, get someone else to plan and book the trip for you. There are a whole host of companies that provide this service these days, but you can just ask a friend or your partner to do it for you. If they’re coming along, they get to be in charge of the itinerary, and you get to live out your surprise travel dreams!

If you want the trip to work out well for everyone involved, make sure you agree on the budget as a group. Make a list of firm nos and things you’re willing to compromise on. And then let them go free to book the trip. When you’re secure in the knowledge that a hated activity, or a hated form of accommodation won’t even be considered, you’ll feel much happier about this option!

If you’re planning on traveling to Africa, you can use our travel company- Clickatripafrica.

Try Tourist Activities in Your Own City

If you want to do something right now, and you don’t have a big budget or the time to just get on a plane and spend a few days away. Why not try out the various tourist activities in your own city? When you live in a place, you’re unlikely to do everything it has to offer. Especially if you’ve grown up in the area.

If there’s an entertainment complex, check it out. Or if there are some new restaurants in town, go for dinner with a few friends. And if there’s a new festival that attracts a lot of outsiders, why not grab some tickets for yourself?

If you want to travel for fun, try out a trip you’ve never considered before! It’s never a bad idea to experience the many different ways to take a trip.

Conclusion

So these are some fun ways to travel that you’ve probably never tried before. Now, it’s your turn to try them out!

  1. Interesting fact: Pooja benefits those who travel frequently, making it especially valuable for those who travel worldwide. Thanks for sharing this helpful blog😊🥰🤗🧿🙏

    1. Thanks so much, happy to share it 😊

      1. 😊🥰🙏🙏🙏💟🧿🧿🙏

  2. I would love to travel by sleeper train at some point, somewhere. 😁🚆

    1. Me too Michelle but be careful you might wake up in a foreign country. Kidnapped, Oh No!😀😂😂

      1. haha! Best to sleep with one eye open! 👍🏻

        1. 😂😂😂😂Haha. Yeah

    2. Right?? It sounds so fun! 😴🚝

      1. Yes it does! Fun, romantic, adventurous…

  3. I liked this!!!

    1. Thank you!

  4. I rode coach on The City of New Orleans years ago and even that was quite pleasant. The intimidating woman who warned me not to wake sleeping riders sticks with me, lol. I want to take a longer ride with a sleeping berth.

    1. That sounds fun minus the intimidating woman’s warning. Sleeper trains definitely sound fun and I want to take a longer ride with one too.

      1. Coach was surprisingly comfortable.

        1. That’s so nice, glad they made an effort even for their coach passengers. Most people only focus on the higher paying ones.

  5. I love camping so much I bought a motorhome. The freedom and ability to see different places is such a tonic.
Took the sleeper train from Bangkok to Surat Thani in 2000, which was amazing, so many sights and aromas.
Have also done some epic cruises; Miami to New Orleans in 1998 on a huge band new Caribbean Cruise ship and Alexandria (Egypt) to Rome in 1999 on a vintage ship, which was so romantic. Fell in love with a girl from work, now married to her with two grown up daughters!

    1. That’s so amazing. I’ve always wanted to live like that and be able to travel constantly.
Wow, you’ve done so much travelling that’s amazing. And happy you met someone lovely you could start a family with!

  6. It’s true, sometimes we have not explored tourist activities in our own city!

    1. Exactly, we travel everywhere else but forget about the beauty at home!

  7. I like the idea of travel challenges, that’s where most of the fun of travelling is.

The travel tip that has come to my mind and is almost related to your first one is, dressing like the natives of the city you are travelling too.
Taking photos of you in totally different clothing can be fun, and will help you remember that trip and place for a long time.

    1. Absolutely, travel challenges make it even more fun to travel.

That’s so true. It helps you connect with the local culture and make unique memories.

  8. Wow, these are some amazing and unique ways to travel! I love the idea of doing a travel challenge with group, where you set fun and adventurous tasks for each other. It’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone and create lasting memories.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, travel challenges are so fun and a unique way to make memories and indulge in the local culture.

  9. The travel train sounds like a great idea. I’m not sure about trusting my friends to book my travel plans..they’re natural pranksters lol.
But I’m definitely going to try the Sleep train.
Thank you for sharing these ideas Pooja. 🙏💙

    1. Yeah, the train is something I really want to experience at some point. Lol, that’s fair. You don’t want to end up in the middle of nowhere 😅 My pleasure 😊

  10. This is why you are my favorite blogger
Because you are full of surprises.

    This blog post, ufff lovely!!!
    Well written.
I love the things you have mentioned in it. Obviously this can be done.
I almost had a chance to go somewhere in train. But well, some other time maybe.

Good thing you mentioned your business as well.

    1. Thanks so much! I love posts like these but they take a lot of research and time lol. Still it’s worth it when I have time.

      1. Totally worth it.
        loved it a lot.

  11. Sounds like my Peru experience!! Canoes, reed rafts, speed boats, trains, planes, cars, minivans, coaches and walking. Fabulous!!

    1. Wow, that sounds so fun!

  12. This year I promised myself to take up some domestic tourism and even try out some budget backpack travelling… havent done it yet, but I will.

    1. That’s so wonderful. I hope you have a great time when you do.

  13. Great ideas Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. 🧡🩵🧡

  14. Awesome blog post Pooja my friend about the essence of travelling and yes travelling is expensive but it is great to actually see a different world and see different people. I wish to visit South Africa and see the beloved Table Mountain and snap pictures there. I should one day and travelling opens you up to exclusive experiences and different cultures💯💯🔥

    1. Thank you so much. True, traveling is so expensive these days but worth saving up for. I hope you’re able to do that and see Table Mountain.

      1. I sure will one day my friend💯🙏

  15. Oh fun ideas…. Love the post and great fun ways to see the world 🌎 looks like too much work to me now.. lol 😆

    1. Thanks so much, lol maybe when you’re more well rested 😅

  16. Tourist activities in your own city is a great idea!!!

    1. Yeah, we rarely do that but our own city usually has so much to offer!

      1. You’re right Pooja!

  17. Love the idea of exploring one’s own city! Often there is so much to do that we never got out to see before. 🙂

    1. Thanks and yes absolutely!

  18. great ideas. Starting with your own city you live in, is a good idea too, as we often forget about the activities happening in the city.

    1. Thanks. Yeah I think we often forget to explore our own city/country when we think of travel. It’s fun and affordable to have short trips in our own city too.

  19. We love to travel, especially weekend and day trips. I travelled extensively when I worked and never got tired of it. But for now, there is so much to see where we live and places that are only 100 milles away.

    1. That’s really wonderful. I think traveling really helps the soul and it helps us grow as people. Sometimes traveling in your own area is fun too.

  20. Good options, think I would love to sleep on a train one day too 😊.

    1. Thanks and I’m excited to try that one too 😊

  21. I really want to do the train one!

    1. Same here, it’s on my bucket list which is why I wanted to mention it!

  22. great ideas … the cruise being one I’d like to try… sleeper train sounds scary to me 🤭😂

    lovely share, Pooja. 🤍

    1. Thank you 😊 Lol, that’s fair 😅

  23. Those are some cool things to do if you don’t have the anxiety that I now do for traveling. I have a lot of trouble these days leaving home for more than a day. I’m not sure why but I do.

    1. Yeah, I think they would be very fun and a unique way to travel. I understand, I have anxiety although not travel anxiety. I think over the last few years many of us have become more homebodies.

  24. I have been camping 50 Km in the wilderness in minus 38 for three days as part of a survival course in case you are in a plane crash, does that count as remote camping?
The only one I have not done is let someone else book a trip for me. I think I am too much of a control freak for that, lol.

    1. Oh wow, that’s honestly probably quite helpful in case you’re ever in a plane crash (which I hope never happens).
      Lol, that’s fair.

    2. The biggest take away from the survival course was; the quality and warmth of whatever you are wearing is the key to how long you survive. I always dress for the cold in my car in the winter. You can take if off if you have it, but you can’t put it on if you don’t have it.

      1. Yeah, that’s true. You’d rather have more clothes than less.

  25. Travel challenge sounds like fun, I need to try it when going to Vietnam. All the above mentioned suggestions sound good except going on a cruise, this one is a bit boring in my humble opinion.

    1. That’s fair, I think to each their own preferences when traveling. The challenges are quiet fun to do and help us immerse with local culture. You should definitely try them when you travel next.

  26. Great post. Speaking of travel challenges… a group of friends once went on a trip in three cars across six states in the US. Took two weeks. Tests your sanity and patience (you see the same people when you wake up and when you sleep) and you pretty much have to agree on things (eat at the same place, take turns at the gas station washroom, visit the same places such as parks and hikes) since you have to go everywhere together.

    1. Thanks. Oh wow, that’s really interesting. True, it’s not easy being with the same group of people for extended periods of time. But if you’re with the right people it can also be a lot of fun.

      1. It was a mix of friends and friends of friends (so some were strangers). Surprisingly, everyone was patient and there was no drama.

        1. That’s really nice. Usually it either goes great or horribly.

  27. Amtrak, the company that runs trains in the U.S, is probably the most poorly managed company I’ve ever encountered. I love taking the train, but the frustration of dealing with Amtrak totally kills the experience.

    1. That sucks, I’m sorry to hear that. The trains here are very mismanaged too and that’s why I can’t travel by train in Kenya. I hope I get to when I visit Europe. I’ve heard good things about train travel in most European countries.

      1. Yes. I’ve also heard good things about European trains.

  28. I really want to go on a cruise trip but as you have mentioned correctly that it is expensive. I have travelled by interstate bus, train, and plane. What I haven’t done is camping. It’s true that camping can be enjoyed most when in a group. I hope we plan a camping trip soon. Another great and new way of traveling is renting a van. There are few services in India that provide semi-luxury vans for a few days which I want to try. But mostly AirBnB s and hostels are very budget-friendly.

    1. Yes, that’s the biggest issue with cruises. They can be quite costly. Camping can definitely be fun as a group. Hope you’re able to at some point in the future. AirBnB’s are very good affordable options compared to hotels. And are more flexible.

  29. It’s been years since I have ridden on a train. This just might have to be a consideration for my wife and myself. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

    1. This is your sign to take a train sometime soon, it would be a fun trip especially with your wife. My pleasure.

  30. I would love to go on a cruise. 🙂

    1. Yeah, they seem like a lot of fun 🙂

  31. Thanks for such a great, informative and fun post, Pooja! Train travel is terrific. We’ve done that a lot in the UK and France, and in Canada I’ve been on a sleeper car, going through the Rockies from the prairies to British Columbia. Superb way to travel!

    1. Thanks so much and that’s so great. I want to visit Canada soon since I miss my friends there and I’m hoping I’ll be able to do some train travel then. It sounds so fun!

      1. My pleasure and yes you definitely should. It’s a long trip (~24-35 hours from Winnipeg to Vancouver!) but the view through the mountains is exquisite!

        1. It does sound beautiful, and Canada has some gorgeous views!

  32. I’m definitely gonna try out some of these!

    1. Good luck!

  33. We would love to try out a sleeper train. Just not too sure how much sleep we’d actually get 😔

And as for having someone else plan our trip, our car club did that for one of our weekend trips and we ended up seeing quite the most random places in our state. We’re not sure if we all enjoyed that experience. It could be a hit or miss! But it would work great if it’s someone planning it and they truly know what you’d like.

    1. That’s fair, I think it’s hard for some to sleep while traveling. I can sometimes be like that too.

Yeah, I think it depends on who plans the trip and even then for some it would be a hit and for some a miss. It’s sort of like gambling with your trip lol. But can be exciting if like you said the person who plans it knows you really well!
