A Glitch In The Matrix

A Glitch In The Matrix

Admittedly, I have never seen The Matrix so I have no idea what that means. I’ve only seen the Futurama parody version where they kind of diss it which I enjoyed but yeah never really seen the real thing.

Back to the point of the post- I keep trying to write advice posts for Tuesdays but it’s just not working out so from now on I’ll be posting advice posts on Monday and Blogger Interviews on Tuesdays. I have other stuff happening on Tuesdays now that my summer classes have started and I’ve been making reels more regularly and it’s just too much. I have time over the weekend so it would be easier to write the post over the weekend and just edit and post it on Monday. I have my first test today so wish me luck!

Edit: I got 21/25 on the test!

Since it is still technically tip Tuesday here’s a little tip- don’t eat yellow ice lol… Just kidding. Here’s an actual tip- the less you care about what others are doing online and what they think about what you’re doing online the more fun you’ll have blogging. So stop caring so much about others and and just keep doing you.

Also, a blogging friend started a sustainable household items brand and it would be awesome if you support her by checking it out. Click here to view her online store.

I Messed Up

I Messed Up

You know how I wrote that whole post about sticking to a schedule and that good stuff? Yeah. It’s been like week one and I already messed up lol. I was supposed to make sure I post blogging advice today but I randomly got on a call with a really awesome friend and didn’t have time to write. To be honest, I don’t feel bad about it because I hadn’t talked to this friend in a while and I really enjoyed catching up. I’ll plan better in the future I guess but obviously as much as I love blogging my real life is important too.

Let me know in the comments how your day was and what you did today because I’m in a chatty mood today and I want to chat with all of you amazing souls!

Lifesfinewhine’s New Schedule

Lifesfinewhine’s New Schedule

For the last few months I’ve been blogging kind of randomly because I’ve been busy with a bunch of things but I think it’s time to finally get my life in order and that means getting my blog in order too. Usually, I wouldn’t share my blogging schedule on here and just change it but there are two reasons I decided to share it.

Firstly, I felt like sharing it with you guys would be like writing it in stone. It would force me to stick to the schedule even if I felt like I wanted to give up on it or procrastinate or whatever.

Secondly, I know that this is a multi-niche blog which means that I write on a variety of topics. I know a lot of you have certain topics you prefer reading about and follow my blog for which is obviously totally okay. I write about a really large number of things and I really don’t expect you guys to enjoy every single one of them or be interested in each and every one of the topics. I thought I would share the schedule so you know when I’ll be posting on what topic and you can read the posts accordingly depending on what topics you enjoy.

Anyway, here’s the schedule and yes I used annoying names for most of them:

More Bloggers Monday

On Mondays, I will be sharing blogger interviews as I normally do so if that’s your thing check out my blog on Mondays.

Terrific Tips Tuesday

Yes, I could make a tip joke but we are adults people😂 Anyway, on Tuesdays I will be sharing tips of some sort. They will mostly be blogging tips but sometimes I’ll share other tips too like tips for learning new languages, growing your social pages etc.

Whatever Wednesdays

I’ve left Wednesdays open to write about whatever I want. I tend to really enjoy writing longer pieces about what’s going on in the world, popular topics people are discussing, stuff about history or sociological theories, etc. Some example of things I plan to talk about are body image, fat shaming, plastic surgery, toxic positivity etc. I will probably connect the post to my podcast topic for the week and discuss it in more detail there as well.

Thoughtful Thursdays

On Thursdays, I plan to talk about things to do with mental health, mindfulness and stuff like that. I feel like I’ve really dropped the ball when it comes to discussing those topics but they’re important to me so I plan on making sure I start talking about them again.

Foodie Fridays

This one sparks joy lol! On Fridays I plan to share content about food. I’ll share things like recipes, food reviews, What I Eat In A Day posts and pretty much anything else related to food.

Six Word Story/Short Story Saturdays

On Saturdays, I plan to share six word stories, short stories or poetry.

Sundays

I’ll be sharing the usual motivational quotes as I always do.

I hope that helps to kind of understand my blogging schedule better. I will try to stick to it as much as possible but don’t hate me if I can’t always do that lol! I will be following this schedule from NEXT WEEK so this week is going to be whatever lol.

Her blog has short stories, six word stories and even some “random ramblings” that I always enjoy!

The Newbury Girl

As you may or may not know I love makeup/beauty/skincare and this blog is my go to for that stuff. I love her honest and very detailed reviews and I love that she reviews a lot of indie brands and a lot of sustainable, clean, cruelty-free and vegan brands as well because as much as I love makeup/beauty products I love the environment too and if I can get products that are more environmentally friendly I most definitely will. She also has such a cute blog I just adore it! She took some time off blogging but I am so glad she’s back now.

My Nominees

For my ten nominees I want to nominate the ten bloggers I mentioned above because they truly deserve it! However, there are so many bloggers I love and I feel like if I was to mention all of them this post would never end. That’s why I also want to nominate YOU! I think this is such a great way to support fellow bloggers and I would love to see as many people do this challenge as possible because we could all use some positive energy right now and it’s always a good thing to support one another and lift each other up. So please consider yourself tagged and try out this challenge on your blog as well!

How To Increase Your Following

Increasing Your Following

Although a lot of people blog as a hobby or just as a way to practice writing/put out their work a lot of people also want to grow their following and and many eventually want to transition into full-time blogging. Whether you just want to have a larger audience, earn an income from blogging or market other services of products you offer like books it is quite beneficial to have a large number of followers. Of course, it is not necessary in any way to have more followers because the most important part of blogging should be being able to put out your posts and interact with other people. However, if you are looking to increase your following and grow your blog the quick and simple ways listed below will help you do just that:

Be Active

If you want to grow your blog one of the most important things is to be active. Firstly, you need to figure out your optimum time so that you can schedule your post accordingly to get the optimum number of views and follows. If you’re not sure what your optimum time to post is and want to learn how to find it in order to grow your blog click here. Once you have have figured out your optimum time make sure to actively and consistently post on a regular basis. People generally prefer to follow blogs that they know will publish posts consistently because it makes it easier for them.If you post at random timings people may not have time to read some of your posts and may eventually stop reading your blog altogether as they are not sure whether or not you are still posting and when you will post. Just being regular with posts makes a huge difference in both traffic and following- not only will you gain more traffic and followers but you will gain loyal traffic and followers which is very important. After you start posting regularly you need to start being active on other blogs. WordPress is a two way street and you can not expect people to support your blog if you do not support theirs so make sure to support other blogs by regularly leaving likes and comments and even sharing posts you find particularly interesting.

Explore Other Blogs

In a world with literally thousands of blogs it is rare that someone will randomly stumble across your blog and like it enough to follow you. You need to be the one to reach out to other blogs and make sure people are very aware of your blog. It’s great to support blogs that support you but don’t forget to explore outside your reader and find blogs that don’t follow you. This will help bring awareness to your blog and is a great way to grow your following. I would recommend finding 5 posts you like by 5 bloggers that don’t follow your blog and leaving a comment on their post every day if you have the time to do so. Just to be very clear please leave a genuine comment about their post not a spam comment trying to force them to follow you. Spam comments will do much more harm to your blog and image than good.

Market Yourself

Marketing yourself is a huge part of growing your blog. I know it may sound weird but you need to be your biggest cheerleader when it comes to growing your blog. Market yourself on social media and WordPress as much as possible in order to bring awareness to your blog and your posts. It’s a great way to increase traffic and increased traffic will consequently mean an increased following. There are a number of ways to market yourself. You can market you blog on your social media pages. You can participate in awards/challenges/tags. You can write guest posts for larger blogs. You can find blogs that offer share and promote pages and leave your link there. For more details on how to market your blog click here.

Put Out High Quality Posts

At the end of the day the most important part of blogging is your posts. That’s what makes people visit your blog and that is what will make people decide whether or not to follow your blog. If you write posts that you are passionate about, write on topics you are personally interested in and make sure to keep it real with your readers they will appreciate your content and want to follow your blog for other similar content. If you are a multi-niche blog I would recommend taking a survey every few months and asking your readers what they want to see on your blog so that you can see what topics/posts are most popular among your readers. This helps you keep in touch with what your audience wants and your audience feels heard. This will decrease your unfollows and increase your followers. The quality of your posts are very important too- truth be told no one wants to read a low quality post when there are thousands of high quality ones on the Internet. Typos and grammatical errors are quite common and having one or two once in a while is completely okay but having a large number of typos and grammatical errors on every single post- this can happen if you are writing in a language that is not your first language, have a problem with grammar/typos in general, write quickly without paying full attention to the post, etc- can make it very difficult and distracting for the reader. I would highly recommend editing your posts if you are prone to such errors and if need be use services like Grammarly that will help you find errors. However, the problem with services like that is that it may not always be accurate and may leave out some actual errors while pointing out errors that aren’t there. If you are having this problem reach out to people who help edit posts manually- lifesfinewhine does offer this. I would also recommend using free services that are available such as spellcheck.

How To Increase Traffic Via Links

Using Links To Increase Your Traffic

Using links is a great way to increase your traffic and to refer readers to other pages in your blog. If used well links can quickly generate more traffic to your page and can help you build a loyal audience. This can help change your readers from one time reader to loyal readers. Links are also a great way to get more traffic from places outside of WordPress and will help expand your audience. The following are ways through which you can use links to help increase traffic to your blog.

Backlinks

Backlinks are the perfect way to diversify your audience and get traffic/readers from other sites. Backlinks are also great for SEO purposes and help increase your SEO. Backlinks are basically when someone adds a link to your blog on their page/site/social media/etc. That way their audience is referred back to your blog/post that they have linked. This is one of the fastest and simplest ways to increase your traffic and draw readers from other blogs. There are multiple ways to get backlinks ethically.  You can guest post on sites that offer guest posts and that way their readers can get a first hand experience of your work and can choose to go over to your blog and read more of your work there. You can participate in tags/awards/challenges where people tag/nominate you because when they nominate you they will add a link to your blog. Tags/awards/challenges are also really fun to do and read so your audience will probably also enjoy the change from regular posts. You can also make use of share and promote pages. A number of sites offer share and promote pages where you can leave a link to your blog along with a description. Do not leave spam comments with links to your blog in an attempt to get backlinks because the majority of bloggers will delete such comments and some may even block you permanently. Even if they don’t block you it is very unlikely that someone will support your blog after you left a spam comment on their post.

Related links

A great way to increase your traffic is to add related posts in your post. This way the audience can read similar posts to what they are currently reading. You can either add a related post section at the end or middle of your post with related posts linked to it.

Screenshot_20200630-162633_Chrome

Or you can add a link at the end of the paragraph as shown below.

Screenshot_20200630-162207_Chrome

This will help refer readers to similar posts on your blog and consequently increase your traffic. Do not link unrelated posts to your posts as this will not help refer readers and they may actually find it frustrating and stop reading your posts. Make sure to only add links to posts that are actually related/similar to the post.

Images

Images are another way to increase your traffic through links as well as better your SEO. You can link posts to images and a lot of people do end up clicking on the image for more information. If you are using images on your posts adding links to these images can help you refer the reader to related posts. For example, if you are writing a post about how links can help increase your traffic and happen to have another post on how to increase traffic you can link that post to the images used.

Social media

I know I have openly admitted that I am not a fan of social media, however, despite all its flaws it is a great marketing tool. You can use social media to refer your social media followers to your blog or to specific posts on your blog. You can do this by sharing your posts with links on your feed or on your story so that your audience will know when you have posted something. You can sync your blog and social media pages or you can manually share each post on your social media pages.

Time To Upgrade Your Plan?

Are You Thinking Of Upgrading Your WordPress Plan?

A lot of people have asked me about whether they should upgrade their plan and whether it’s even necessary to upgrade to a paid plan. A lot of times deciding whether or not to upgrade your plan can get a bit complicated and it is difficult to decide when the perfect time is for an upgrade. However, if you are seriously considering upgrading to a paid plan there are some factors you should take into account first. Yes, the payment and plan are reversible but that does not always workout. When I went from the Premium Plan to the Business Plan I was kind of disappointed so I decided to switch back to the Premium Plan. Unfortunately, during the process of switching back I lost all the likes/comments on several of my posts and the posts became duplicated for some reason. The customer care people at WordPress were unable to help. Therefore, I decided to write a post on some things you should consider when you are thinking about upgrading your plan so that you can make an informed decision and don’t have to go through what I went through. These factors will help you decide whether or not you should upgrade your plan:

Why are you blogging?

You need to think about what you are planning to achieve from your blogging journey. If you are blogging as a hobby and are not currently looking to start blogging full-time/make an income blogging then there is not much of a need for you to upgrade your plan. I would highly recommend sticking with an unpaid wordpress.com site. If you are planning to make some sort of an income from your blogging than you may need a paid plan. If you want to monetize your blog using Ads you will need to upgrade your plan to a paid plan as those offer revenue from Ads. Furthermore, sponsors are more likely to want to work with someone who owns their domain/site rather than a site that has wordpress.com/wordpress.org on it.

Income

When considering an upgrade you should take into consideration how much you are currently earning through your site because you should be earning at least equivalent before you decide to invest. You should be ambitious and invest in yourself if you have the capital to do so however if you don’t have that kind of money I would recommend waiting till your blog is making at least the amount you spend on the plan before upgrading because you are not going to make more than a couple of dollars of the Ads unless you have a huge following. It’s just a better idea to have some sort of income before you invest in your blog.

res_1587529659977

Better/more options

If you are looking for options like plugins, better themes and more than you may not have any choice but to upgrade. For example, plugins are only offered on the Business Plan and the eCommerce Plan. If you absolutely need to use plugins than you will have no choice but to upgrade. However, I will warn you some of the features offered are not really worth it and some of the plans are not explained well by WP. If you want to know about my personal experience with upgrades and how WP kind of messed it up click here.

Customization

If you want to customize your site to make it look a certain way you should consider upgrading your plan because the paid plans do offer a lot more customizing options. They offer more themes, the ability to customize how your site looks and more. However, you can also customize by switching to a self-hosted site. I don’t know too much about self-hosting because I haven’t done that but a fellow blogger has some great posts on how she switched to a self-hosted site, what hosting provider she used and how she customized her site. All three posts are extremely insightful and I would recommend checking them out if you are interested in self-hosting.

Your following/traffic

Your following and traffic should be one of the main things you consider before deciding to upgrade your plan. If your blog is consistently growing in both following and traffic and you predict that it will continue to do so I would recommend thinking about an upgrade. However, if you feel like your blog is not growing that much you may want to wait until your blog has at least 5-10K followers and 1k views a day. It is difficult to make money off your blog if you don’t have a large following/audience and an upgrade will not be able to fix this problem. Sponsors want to work with people who have at least a few thousand followers and Ads only make a decent amount of revenue when you have a certain amount of daily views. On the other hand you can make a decent amount of money even on the free plan if you have a large following/traffic. To find out how to grow your following click here. To find out how to grow your audience click here. Once your blog is growing at a good rate you can decide to upgrade to a paid plan.

How To Get Traffic Outside WordPress

Why Traffic Outside Of WordPress Is Important

A large number of WordPress bloggers are interested in increasing their traffic and I have multiple posts on how to get more traffic from fellow bloggers. However, I did a poll recently asking what posts you guys want to see on lifesfinewhine and someone asked how to increase your traffic to a more broader audience and get readers from outside WP as well. I thought this was a really good idea for a post because a lot of people, including myself, have struggled with this. Here are the ways I have found helpful for broadening my audience and getting more traffic apart from other bloggers:

SEO

If you are looking to drive traffic to your blog that’s from outside WP, SEO has to be your best friend. However, understanding SEO can be quite difficult for a lot of people, myself included, and that’s why I would highly recommend getting an expert to help you out if you are able to do so. It just saves a lot of time and energy. So just do your research and try as hard as possible to make your blog SEO friendly to help get you traffic from Search Engines.

Social Media

As you guys know social media is not my favourite thing in the world but admittedly it is quite useful for marketing your blog. It is particularly important if you are trying to grow a wider audience from outside WordPress. Use your social media pages to advertise your blog and market it to your followers since a number of your followers on social media are not from WordPress.

You can do this by linking your posts on your pages and sharing new posts and updates about your blog. If people start reading your blog through social media and enjoy it they are likely to keep coming back to it and maybe even subscribe using their email.

However, just a friendly reminder to not spam your readers with too many posts about your blog unless your page is set up just for your blog because this will have the opposite effect and some followers may end up getting irritated and leave your page.

A great way to keep the balance is to add stuff about your post on your stories instead of on your feed. And if you are using a platform like Twitter which doesn’t have a story option try to post about your blog with appropriate hashtags such as #wordpress or #blog so that you target the audience that is actually looking to view blog posts and don’t spam random audiences by using random tags like #music for example (unless your post is about music but you get what I mean!)

res_1587529659977

Use Your Tags/Keywords/Categories Wisely

Tags, categories and keywords are extremely helpful when you are trying to broaden your audience because these three things are what helps search engines find your posts when someone searches for a related topic. These words are picked up by search engines and depending on how you are using them you will get more traffic or actually lose traffic.

Make sure to use your keywords throughout your post especially in your introduction but don’t use it too often as Search Engines will then categorize it as spam. Also make sure to use tags that are a mix of broader topics and more specific ones. Don’t over use categories and stick to categories that are appropriate for your post- don’t use random categories that have nothing to do with the topic you are writing about. For more on how to use tags click here.

Topics/themes

Some topics/themes are just more popular than others and you are more likely to attract readers when you write about certain topics. For example, if you write about something that’s trending at the moment you are much more likely to get more traffic from people outside WP as a large number of people will be searching for this topic. However, if you write about something that has a smaller audience or that less people are interested in you are statistically less likely to get a lot of views both from WP and outside of WP.

Your layout/structure

As mentioned earlier keywords, tags and categories are an important part of both your post structure/layout and growing your traffic. However, other aspects of your layout are important as well. Make sure you are using a theme that is easy to load and navigate through so that both readers and search engines can find your posts more easily.

I have noticed that some themes are very slow to load and some do not have the most recent posts clearly on the front page. If your website has such issues I would highly recommend switching to a different theme. If your site is slow or not well organised most search engines will not put your site very high up in the results and your site will lost traffic due to this.

Make sure your blog clearly states what it is about, shows your recent posts and loads fast. This will make a big difference in your traffic.

Your Thoughts

I would love to hear what you guys do to increase your traffic and the methods you use to get traffic from outside WP. Do you find it difficult to get traffic from a broader audience? Let me know in the comments below because I am always interested in what you guys have to say and quite often I learn something new from you guys!

How To Make Readers Return To Your Blog

The Importance Of Making Sure Your Readers Keep Coming Back

It’s important to build an audience if you are planning on monetizing your blog, however, the type of audience you build is also very important especially if you are looking for potential sponsors. Having readers that visit your blog consistently is very important because that means you have a loyal following and that will increase your views in the long run. Having readers who visit your blog only once or twice may increase your following but it does little to increase your traffic. Loyal followers increase your traffic in the long run and show your potential sponsors that you have an organic and responsive following. Here are ways to gain an audience that will consistently visit your blog on a regular basis:

Consistency

Consistency is one of the most important things when you are trying to increase your traffic, following or keep readers coming back to your blog. If a reader does not know when you will post next or if your blog is still active it is very likely that they will follow your blog or return to read more of your content. The best way to remain consistent is to schedule your posts for your optimum time and then post at that time every day/every other day/every week. Don’t put out random posts at random times because this will do a lot more damage than good. There is also a huge difference between posting regularly and spamming people with posts so make sure to not spam people either. This is a huge turn off for readers and will likely cause them to unfollow you. For more on how to schedule your post click here. For more on how to find  the optimum time to post click here.

Engagement

I have noticed that some people don’t reply to comments or engage with their audience. If you are looking to gain loyal readers than you absolutely need to engage with them. People in general, but especially on WordPress, like to socialise and leave their thoughts about the content and if your reader feels ignored and like their thoughts are not being heard it is unlikely that they will come back to your blog. If you want readers to keep coming back make sure they know that they are heard. Reply to comments and even try conversing with them further- you may not only get a reader who keeps coming back but also a friend! Activity

If you want readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to be as active as possible. Being active is really one of the key ways to grow your blog as well as maintain your audience. Firstly, you need to be active on your own blog as discussed above by posting regularly on schedule and always engaging with your readers in the comments section. Secondly, you have to remember that blogging, like most platforms, is very much a two way street. If you want you readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to do the same and keep going back to their blog. If you see someone liking your post/posts and leaving positive comments/feedback remember to do the same. Leave a like/comment or even share posts of theirs that you enjoyed on your blog. This way you can support each others blog and it’s a win-win for both of you.

Marketing

Marketing is a big part of blogging. If you market your blog correctly you can quickly gain a pretty large and loyal following. I want to make it clear that by marketing your blog I do not mean leaving spam comments on other people’s blogs telling them to check out your blog. Spam comments are very unethical and actually do much more damage than good. There are much more ethical ways to grow your blog and gain an audience that keeps revisiting your blog. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use your tags and categories section correctly. When you use these sections properly you are putting your posts out to a much wider audience. For more on how to use your tags and categories sections correctly click here. If you want me to personally pick out tags/categories for specific posts feel free to contact me. As annoying as social media can sometimes be it can also be a great way to market your blog. The next time you post something on your blog try referring your social media followers to the post by leaving an excerpt and link on your social media accounts. If you do this every time you post something you can get a lot of recurring readers from your social media. Another great way to market your blog is to increase your backlinks. You can do so by guest posting on sites that offer guest posting or by leaving your link on share and promote pages that many sites also offer. This will refer new readers to your blog, give you a better SEO rating and some of these readers will eventually become regulars.

Quality

The quality of your post is incredibly important if you want readers to come back to your site regularly. It is okay to have a typo or some grammar mistakes- that’s quite normal- but if you have horrible grammar, spelling and your posts look unprofessional it is quite unlikely that your reader will come back. If the language you have chosen to write in is not your first language make sure to double check your grammar/spellings/etc. The majority of readers get turned off when there are constant mistakes in your writing and it can actually be quite exhausting to read a post that is full of mistakes. They will likely not revisit your blog or will find a blog which is more well written to read and follow instead. To avoid such errors you can use online resources that help you find spelling and grammar mistakes however be very careful with these because they do tend to sometimes pick up on random things that are not actually errors and not pick up actual errors. Having a human proof read your work is always a better idea. We now offer proofreading and editing services so if you are interested feel free to contact me. If the reader enjoys your writing they will continue to return to your blog to read your posts on a regular basis and you will be able to gain a lot more recurring readers.
