Affordable Cruelty Free Brands

Recently one of my followers Shweta Suresh suggested that I do a post on cruelty free brands because I had talked on one of my posts about how I think testing on animals is wrong. Thanks for the suggestion Shweta!

I thought that was a really good idea because I actually love makeup and people who have been following me for a while now may remember I used to do makeup posts regularly before pretty regularly. I also have a lot of makeup posts on my Instagram. I decided that for this post I’ll talk about brands that I use on an almost daily basis and really enjoy. Here are my four favourites:
ELF So ELF is probably my favourite cruelty free brand of all time. It has a very impressive range of products for really affordable prices. And for the price the quality is super impressive. I have multiple different ELF products and the only problem I have had so far with any of them is that you kind of have to build up the eye-shadow before it shows really well however this makes them perfect for the everyday natural look. I use their foundation and concealer whenever I have to go out and I am so impressed by how long it lasts and how well it blends. The only problem I have with their foundation and concealer is that I wish they had more options for women of colour because I have to mix two shades to get my shade which is kind of annoying. All ELF products are cruelty free and vegan. Oh and if you have an account with them you get a free gift on your birthday
NYX- I really love NYX and their lipstick and lip liner are products that I use almost daily. They are one of the few drugstore brands that actually have nude or natural lipstick shades that don’t look insane on people of colour and for that I’m very grateful. I’ve tried a lot of lipsticks from multiple brands that just look so weird on me because of the shade contrasting with my skin tone. They are fully cruelty free and partially vegan so if you’re looking for vegan products make sure to check their site for what products are and are not vegan.
Kat Von D- KVD is among the most affordable brands at Sephora. Obviously they are not drugstore brand affordable but for a high end brand they are quite affordable especially if you get the products when they are on sale. Their products are really great quality and even if it is a little more expensive than brands like ELF and NYX personally I think they are worth the splurge. Kat Von D is fully cruelty free and vegan.
Essence- Essence is another brand that I wear almost daily. Their lip gloss is one of my favourites- usually lip gloss annoys me because it’s sticky but this one isn’t annoyingly sticky at all. And literally all my nail polishes are from Essence. They last for ages and have such pretty colours! Actually when I went back home to Kenya last year I put on some nail polish and it lasted so long without chipping my mum was like omg what nail polish is that it’s been on for like forever and then she told me to get her some when I go back this year! All Essence products are cruelty free and partially vegan so again check their site for what’s vegan.

Trying Out Sephora’s Birthday Gift

My first reaction when I opened the box up was omg this is wayyyy too cute to use! I mean everything inside was so tiny and adorable especially the lipstick.

But a few days ago I finally remembered I still hadn’t tried the stuff out and decided to try it out and review the products for you guys!

So I started with the lip scrub. It smelt amazing and it worked great too. My lips were slightly more plumped and definitely a lot more smoother.

Next I tried out the lip balm which again smelt amazing and definitely left my lips smoother. It also tasted good which made it difficult to stop myself from eating it (yes I have no self control…)

Then I tried out the lip liner which smelt AMAZING!! The color was a perfect natural color for my lips and skin tone and looked really natural even though I over-lined my lips.

Finally, I tried the lipstick which was so tiny and adorable I really just wanted to save it and never use it! It of course as you can predict smelt amazing and it had a very matte but not at all drying effect. The color was adorable and perfect for if you are going for a natural look. However, I had to use it multiple times to get it to show up which I thought was a little annoying since it was so tiny to begin with.

I went to eat after putting it on and unfortunately it did not last at all whatsoever. I had to keep reapplying it all through the day. It was a really pretty color and looked and felt amazing but it’s not something I would actually buy if I’m being totally honest because I just don’t think it would be worth it.

Hey y’all! Black Friday is coming up soon, and though I usually don’t leave my house for this event, I love to online shop and take advantage of all the sweet deals. I’ve had a few people ask me what the best deals are, so I thought I’d compile a few good ones and share them with you! I definitely won’t be buying things from all of these sites, but I might pick a few items up here and there 😉 Also, I definitely haven’t captured every single sale out there, but these are a few from the most popular beauty brands at the moment. Hope you enjoy!

Ulta

Ulta has soooo many good deals happening in the next week! I will link their website here: https://www.ulta.com/blackfriday/ . Not only do they have deals for actual Black Friday, but things are on sale before then too! This applies to…

5 Kat Von D Lipstick Shades You Need This Fall

Kat Von D’s makeup line is known for their Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks because they actually are the closest thing to everlasting that I’ve come across so far! Kat Von D products are cruelty free and vegan. Here are five shades that would be perfect for fall even though I know fall is technically half way through!

Lolita I- This is honestly my favourite shade like ever. I wear it all the time all year around but it looks extra amazing in fall since it’s more brownish and looks perfect with the changing of the leaves and weather. Also this is the perfect shade for people with olive skin looking for a nude lipstick that doesn’t look weird.

Lolita II- Another perfect shade for fall. It’s really beautiful and again since it’s more orange it looks great in fall with the changing leaves.

Madrid

Madrid- This is more of a warm redwood color and again a really perfect nude lipstick for people with olive skin.

Bow N Arrow

Bow N Arrow- I never get tired of brown shades and this is another one that is just so warm and perfect for fall.

Outlaw-  Don’t worry this isn’t another brown shade! This one is a brick red because red always looks classy and elegant especially in fall when some of the trees are all red and pretty!

Trying Out Arbonne’s ‘Calm’ Products

I was lucky enough to get a bunch of Arbonne samples in the mail recently and decided to do some reviews. for this post I’ll be reviewing their ‘calm’ products- Gentle Daily Cleanser, Soothing Facial Serum, Gentle Daily Moisturizer, Soothing Eye Gel- which are great for people with sensitive skin.

Scent- I was really happy to see that it was unscented because like I’ve said before a lot of times when products are scented it really irritates my skin which is very sensitive and prone to eczema. So if you have sensitive skin or don’t like scented products in general I would definitely recommend Arbonne since all their products are unscented.

Effect- they were really effective and did exactly what they were supposed to do. I especially liked the moisturizer which was one of those where a little goes a long way and since my skin is on the dryer side i prefer moisturizers that don’t get over every 2 days.

Feel- they felt really great especially the soothing eye gel and the soothing facial serum. They were very cool and they felt absolutely wonderful on my skin and the eye gel did in fact kind of get rid of some of the darkness under my eyes (I only used it for 2 weeks but I’m guessing if you use it for longer it could get rid almost all it).

Ethics- it’s vegan, gluten free, non-GMO, Kosher and cruelty free so if you’re looking for something that will have less impact on the environment and that’s truly organic I would definitely recommend you try it out!

Price- I think this is the only thing I found that would make me rethink buying a lot of Arbonne products because it is on the expensive side. If you can afford to spend a little more on products then this is perfect for you but if you’re someone like me who’s in school and doesn’t have the best budget then you might want to look through their site and see what’s on sale or on the cheaper side. I will say though that if you can afford these products they are totally worth it!

ELF BB Cream With SPF 20 Review

I have started using this product for a few weeks now and I decided to do a little review about it because I was so freaking impressed! Now if you’ve read any of my other makeup posts you’ll know I love ELF and it’s my favourite vegan and cruelty free beauty brand right now. It was so affordable, honestly, when I first bought an e.l.f product I was like that’s suspicious like do they not have good quality products but they do!

Image result for suspicious gif

Anyway, back to the BB cream, I was again a little skeptical because I’m not a big fan of BB creams or foundation because I have pretty dry skin and a lot of foundations and BB creams I tried prior to this ended up making my skin look even dryer and sometimes flaky.

Image result for moisturise me gif

I bought the product a while back but I didn’t actually try it till I got back to Kenya and I was left speechless (which is shocking for me I talk about everything including the taste of water). To begin with it was so creamy and beautiful it made my skin look not only hydrated but radiant and my face seemed to glow! I have NEVER used a foundation or BB cream that made me look like that and I was always trying to look for products to make me look like that.

Image result for wow gif

Secondly, the product had an amazing coverage for a BB cream- usually I have do like 2 layers with BB cream to get that much coverage but this had the coverage of a foundation! Although I do have to point out that I don’t have any acne or scars or noticeable marks on my face I just have some discolouration so I don’t need that much coverage- if you do have any of the above use a concealer as well as the BB cream because even though it does have great coverage it’s not a concealer. But anyway, it did cover up my skin really well.

Thirdly, it was so lightweight and natural looking that you can totally wear it on a daily basis and no one would even realise you’re wearing any makeup! It blends really well and looks so natural you just look like you have a nice natural glow.

Lastly, it costs $6.00 and weighs 285ml which is super affordable even for a drugstore brand! It’s also packaged really well so you can easily travel with it or carry it around with you in case you want to retouch your makeup although honestly, I wear it all day sometimes and it doesn’t move an inch.

FINAL THOUGHTS: To sum it up I was super impressed with this product! It’s really affordable, has an amazing formula, works for both dry and oily skin plus as an extra added bonus it’s both vegan and cruelty free!

How I Saved My Skin

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had pretty dry skin. As a kid I had a little bit of an eczema problem but luckily (fingers crossed!) I’m okay now but I still have really sensitive and dry skin. I try to avoid using a lot of chemicals on my skin and I only rarely do full face makeup. Even though a lot of companies swear that their products work for people with sensitive skin they don’t usually work for me. However, a few months ago I subscribed to Ipsy and got my first Ipsy Bag. I’m not going to lie, it was kind of disappointing and even though the products I got were good they just weren’t what I was looking for at the moment. But, there was one thing that blew my mind away! That was the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. Again, I’m going to be honest and say that I had actually not heard of FAB before this so I did what any normal human would do- I Googled.

Turns out FAB creates all these amazing products for people with sensitive skin. So I began using the lotion and to my surprise it made my skin so much better! It didn’t look all dead and dry anymore and it actually had a healthy glow to it! Plus, the lotion is so light you don’t even feel like you have something on your face which is awesome because a lot of products are heavy and it feels like you have so much product on your face! I use it on a daily basis- once after I take a shower and once before I go to sleep at night. The one I get is travel sized so I can carry it around with me and take it with me when I travel! However, they do have a bigger size in case you’re interested.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this product with you in case you’re suffering from any skin problems and need to find products for sensitive skin. This is just something I found and I thought I would share with you guys!
