Experiences I Want Post Lockdown

Life During Lockdown

A few months ago everything seemed to change for almost everyone. Our regular lifestyle, schedules and lives in general were changed as we went into lockdown. Although the changes have been made for safety reasons there are still things that we really miss that we wish we could still experience. Naveesha, a fellow blogger and I were talking about this and decided to collaborate on a post about what we miss most and what we are excited to experience after this lockdown/pandemic is over. The first four are hers and the last four are mine. We hope you enjoy reading the post as much as we did writing it!

Pub Dates

Underrated but I miss cheap and cheerful pub dates where you meet up with friends and get a pint (overpriced if you’re in London, of course) and talk and anything and everything. Bonus point if there’s a pub garden because who doesn’t love a bit of Sun and Sangria. Pub culture is just easy, laid back and chilled which is needed after a long stint of lockdown

Beauty Treatments

There’s a strong chance my eyebrow lady will not recognise me the next time I see her. Or she’ll be speechless when she realises that lockdown pressure culminated in me trying to do my own eyebrows which resulted in a slight disaster. Suffice to say, give me the works (after it is safe, of course). A Mani, Pedi and a facial. Stat.

Food, Glorious, Food

My eyes are definitely going to be bigger than my stomach when all the restaurants open up again. Lockdown has reminded me that I need to be expanding my culinary bucket list and there is are variety of feasts that any foodie can appreciate.

Staycations

International travel is going to be difficult in the foreseeable future as borders will likely stay closed until it is safe to travel. I definitely want to explore more of the UK and see gems like Cornwall and even partake in a road trip to Scotland.

Hugs

I am not someone who is super into hugging or really showing a lot of affection in general but as they say- you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. I can’t wait to hug my friends and family and just be around them without worrying about wearing a mask, washing my hands or anything like that.

Travelling

I am really looking forward to travelling a lot more as soon as all this is over and it is safe to travel to other countries again. I even have an entire list of all the places I want to see ready!

Just Chilling

I cannot wait to be able to go out to just relax. Whether it’s to a restaurant, movie, coffee shop or just walking around downtown. I know that I can do that right now but I can’t wait till I can do that without having to put on a mask and avoid other people and keep a distance. Just being able to relax is something I am definitely looking forward to.

Taking the bus

I know a lot of people have a problem with taking the bus or don’t particularly enjoy the experience of taking the bus. I always did though- I thought it was peaceful and I particularly enjoyed longer bus rides because they gave me time to think and reflect. I haven’t taken the bus since the pandemic and honestly I kind of miss it.
This was such a fun collaboration and if you enjoyed this post do take a minute to go over to Naveesha’s blog, Twitter, and Instagram. She is a really great blogger and a lovely person to collaborate with. I know you won’t regret going over and checking out her posts.
Thoughts
What is something you are excited to do once this whole situation is over? Are there some things you really miss doing right now? What is one thing you realised you’ve been taking for granted all this time? Let me know in the comments below I would love to hear your thoughts.

Addressing Misconceptions About Self-Care

By Niraj Shah
Especially at a time where taking care of our mental health is extremely important, self-care is a term that has been mentioned a lot. There is a strong link between self-care and mental health, as self-care is something that is vital in order to ensure good mental health. Self-care is an extremely broad term and as a result self-care means different things to different people. In this article I aim to address the main misconceptions that people have about self-care.
One vague and broad definition that I have seen refers to self-care as any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional and physical health. From first glance this definition implies that self-care refers to an actual activity and something we actually set aside time to do in order to improve our wellbeing. Taking a bath, going for a walk, or even treating yourself to good food are all examples of self-care activities that you would set aside some time to do. However, in my opinion, self-care is not just about setting aside time to do certain activities. For example, in this exam period, one thing that I did which I consider as self-care is that I would stop revising past 1am, just so that I don’t burn out. This isn’t something that I have physically set aside any time to do, but I still consider it as self-care, as it has helped my mental health. Knowing that self-care doesn’t have to involve setting aside time for something is extremely crucial, as one of the reasons why people don’t feel that they can practice self-care is because they don’t have time due to their busy schedules. However, you can still practice self-care even no matter how busy your schedule is. For example, if you have an extremely busy schedule because of your job, one method that you can practice self-care without it taking time away from your busy schedule is by turning off your work phone or emails outside work hours.
One massive misconception about self-care, is that in some cases, people think that people who are practicing self-care are being selfish. Self-care is when people try and do things for their own wellbeing and mental health, however sometimes people think that for someone who is practicing self-care their ONLY priority is their wellbeing. Consider the following example. A friend asks you to take him to the airport to catch an 7:50 a.m. flight which means you need to get him there by at least 6:30. You get up early for work every day in spite of not being a morning person and this is taking a toll on both your mental and physical health. You want to prioritise your mental and physical health, and say no so you can have a lie in for once, but feel badly because your friend doesn’t have extra money to spend on a cab ride. Examples like this is why the terms self-care and selfish get so easily confused, and the difference between the two terms is actually quite subtle. However, being selfish is choosing to consistently only think of your own needs and wants, whereas the other hand, self-care is choosing to honour your inner wants and needs in order to help you serve others well. And sometimes that requires putting yourself ahead of someone else.
Another term that self-care often gets confused with is self-improvement. These are two terms that are really important to distinguish between, as sometimes most people approach self-care with the thought, ‘I’m going to make myself better,’ and that doesn’t work. However, having said that, my opinion is that self-care can lay the foundations for someone to make themselves better by engaging in self-improvement. An example is if someone wants to enjoy career success in the next 2 years. This should be approached as a self-improvement goal by doing things such as taking advantage of any personal development opportunities or ensuring that high quality work is produced in a consistent basis. However, self-care can provide the foundations for this by doing things such as getting a good night sleep every day, exercising at the start of each day and ensuring a healthy diet. Considering self-care as something that can lay the stepping stones for self-improvement rather than directly lead to it is something that is crucial to keep in mind when practicing self-care.
Furthermore, self-care is such a broad term that there are different categories of self-care. These different categories include emotional self-care, physical self-care, mental self-care, practical self-care, social self-care and spiritual self-care. These different types of self-care seem obvious, but something that is still vital to bring up. The fact that there are different categories of self-care strengthens the argument that there is no such thing as a one size fits all method when it comes to practicing self-care, and self-care methods will vary from person to person.
As well as knowing the main misconceptions of self-care, there are two further things that I want you to take away from reading this article. The first is that there is no precise definition of self-care and that things you may consider as self-care may not be considered as self-care by someone else, and that’s completely fine. As mentioned in the beginning of the second paragraph, self-care is something that we do in order to take care of our mental, emotional and physical health, so as long as self-care methods that you implement work for you then that’s perfectly fine. The second and more important takeaway is that self-care is something you need to actively spend time thinking about and reflecting upon. More precisely, it is vital that before one engages in self-care, thought is given into the self-care strategies that are put in place, as well as regularly reflecting on whether these self-care strategies are effective in improving your wellbeing.

My Questions

What food have you never eaten but would really like to try?
SO MUCH! I really want to try authentic Korean food in Korea the most though.

What social stigma does society need to get over?
All of them. Stigma’s and norms are so damaging. We are unique, different and talented in our own way. No two people are alike and instead of trying to preach uniformity we should be encouraging people to embrace their differences.
What are you currently worried about?
2020 getting worse…
Who was your craziest / most interesting teacher?
All my history teachers have been phenomenal which is why I’m a history major now.

What “old person” things do you do?
Almost all of them. I complain about my back pain, my allergies, my poor sight and so much more lol!
What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
“I’m not a racist but…”
What riddles do you know?
What goes up but never comes down? Your age…
What’s your cure for hiccups?
I don’t know if this is a Gujarati thing or my family is weird but we say that when you get hiccups it’s because someone is remembering you so you say names till your hiccups stop and that’s the person remembering you. Other than that I just hold my breath lol.

What are your most important rules when going on a date?
Be honest- honesty is the key to a successful relationship!
What are you interested in that most people aren’t?
History and a lot of other nerdy stuff.

Post your top 10 most used emojis (no skipping!)
😂😫🤦🏽‍♀️😊🤣💕💯😜🦉🤤

Female Rappers I Love

Female Rappers That I Am Currently Obsessed With

As you may know I love rap music and it’s probably one of my favourite genres of music. I have had a couple of requests to write a post about female rappers/rappers in general/music that I like and so I finally decided to get to it and write about that. I know it took me forever but better late than never right? I have been listening to hip hop for years now- probably more than a decade- and I am so happy to see so many amazing female rappers coming up. I know that there have always been amazing female rappers but I still feel like it’s always been more male dominated. However, I love seeing how that changing and how all these amazing, talented and beautiful women are doing so well. Anyway, here are the female rappers I am listening to at the moment:
Disclaimer: The videos linked below may contain explicit language.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion obviously had to be on this list considering she is one of the best female artists out there right now. I absolutely lover her energy and there is no denying that she is extremely talented at what she does. Recently she released the Savage Remix featuring Beyoncè which reached the Billboard No.1 and was her highest charting song so far. That song is easily one of my favourite songs.

Princess Nokia

Princess Nokia may not be as well known as some of the other rappers on this list but she is definitely a fantastic rapper and she is getting a lot more recognition recently. What I love about her music is that every song hits different and ever album she makes sounds so different and unique. I also love that she’s such an inspiring person online because these days so many people are just so toxic and problematic. It’s nice to see someone who isn’t obsessed with Photoshop and is ready to put her flaws out there. And she is so active when it comes to activism and stuff like that so I just find it really inspiring to see someone use their platform for good.

Saweetie

She is honestly so amazing and you’ve probably heard some of her music even if you haven’t heard all her stuff. I don’t even know what to say except if you don’t listen to her like you need to start. Like immediately. And it’s not just the famous songs that are good but her lesser known music is so incredible too.

Kash Doll

Admittedly, I’ve only started listening to Kash Doll recently but I am loving her music so far. The song that’s linked above is my favourite so far. I know she’s only featured on it but she definitely killed it and I am just seriously obsessed with that song. I look forward to listening to more of her music and perhaps updating this in a few weeks.

City Girls

I was like really obsessed with City Girls a while ago and of course I had to mention them on this list. I used to listen to them like everyday, all the time- it drove my sister crazy lol! I listen to them less often now but they are still definitely in my top 5!

Thoughts

Do you like rap/hip hop? Do you like all the rappers I mentioned above? Did I mention any of your favourites? Who is your favourite female rapper at the moment? Who is your favourite rapper right now in general? Let me know in the comments below I would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank You!

I want to thank Nabeela for nominating me for this award. She has a really awesome multi-niche lifestyle blog and also recently started a YouTube channel. You can check out her blog by clicking here and her YouTube channel by clicking here.

Rules:-

1. Put the award logo on your blog.
2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
3. Mention the creator of the award. The creator of this award is..Okoto Enigma.
4. Answer the five questions you were asked.
5. Tell the readers three things about yourself.
6. Nominate ten to twenty bloggers.
7. Notify the bloggers that you nominated them by commenting on one of their posts.
8. Ask your nominees five questions with one weird or funny one.
9. Share a link to your best posts.

Questions:-

Which one is the best in your opinion? Blogging or Vlogging?

Personally I prefer blogging just because WP is such a great platform. YouTube is kind of a messed up place and has too many trolls for me to handle.

What is the one good thing that you did to someone else?

I try to be as kind as possible so I guess I have tried to help people out as much as I can. And my parents taught us to donate stuff on Christmas and our birthday and New Years so I guess that’s a good thing I do every year.

What is the one gift that will make you happy?

A million dollars so if anyone wants to send it to me you know how to reach me… lol kidding. I think the perfect gift would be makeup or books- I love them both so much!

One post of mine that you like the most? And why?

I really like your post about how to treat women better when they’re pregnant because it’s genuinely a serious problem especially in brown communities I feel like. I have learnt a lot about what you talk about on the post in detail in Sociology and I hope that over time as a society we are able to treat pregnant women in a more appropriate way.

Do you think the Covid -19 will end someday?

Someday- yes. Anytime soon- perhaps not.

Leave Me Your Assumptions

What Is An Assumptions Post?

In March, I did my first “ASSUMPTIONS” post and it was so much fun. A lot of my readers told me they had enjoyed it and wanted me to do another one and I honestly had such a great time answering your very interesting assumptions I personally wanted to do another one as well. I had been meaning to do another one again for so long but stuff kept coming up and I could not find the right time to schedule another post like that. However, since I just celebrated 16k followers I thought this would be a fun way to interact with my new followers as well as my older ones!

So, How Does This Work?

In case you hadn’t participated in the last Assumptions post or have forgotten how it works I thought I would leave the instructions here again. So, I got the idea for this from watching some YouTubers do these “assumptions” videos and thought it would be a lot of fun to do on WordPress too. I thought this would be a fun way to connect, start some fun conversations, get to know one another better and just have a nice little virtual get together in the comments section!
res_1587529659977
Okay so back to how it works. All you have to do is leave an assumption/assumptions in the comments section.

After about five days or so I will publish a post tagging you along with your assumption and will give you an answer as to whether or not your assumption was accurate on the post. For example, if your assumption was “You like potatoes” I’ll answer “yes, I love potatoes” or “nope, I’m not a fan of potatoes I actually love plantains more.”

In case that was confusing to understand because I am the worst at explaining stuff please go see my last Assumptions post and Replying To Your Assumptions post to get a better idea of exactly how it will work.

Thank you!

I want to thank everyone in advance for your comment and for being a part of this! Honestly, it’s just so great that we have this awesome platform on which we can connect with each other. I think I may have gone crazy stuck at home if it hadn’t been for this blog. So again, thank you in advance!!

Your travel pet peeves?

When people don’t respect your space and are kind of all up in your face- especially on the airplane.

Name three of your favourite authors.

Jane Austen

Enid Blyton

Natasha Anders

I’d like to choose:

Erin– This tag is perfect for Erin because I find her blog to be so inspiring. Even with all the craziness going on at the moment and all the negativity she still tries really hard to remain positive and spread positive energy to the WordPress community and I find that to be incredibly amazing and inspiring. She also has a really awesome Instragram that you can check out.

Jirah– I really enjoy her blog and always find her posts interesting. She has such a positive energy and I particularly enjoyed her Blog Party post where she encouraged everyone to share their blogs and get to know one another. She is definitely a very inspiring blogger. You can also check her out on Instragram, Pinterest and Twitter.

Tiani- I love Tiani’s blog so much- you know I can never resist a blog that talks about mental health. She writes about mental health, lifestyle and so much more. She also does interviews every week that discuss mothers and mental health- she interviews a mother who talks about their mental health. I find this segment to be particularly inspiring because a lot of people tend to suffer from mental health problems during pregnancy or after they have children and it’s so important to make sure that they know they are not alone and that things will get better. She also has a YouTube channel, Instagram page, Twitter page, and Pinterest that you can check out.

Elle– I only discovered her blog recently but I think it’s absolutely wonderful. I think she tells it like it is and doesn’t hold back which I- as a repressed perfectionist- find very inspiring. You can also check out her content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Nath– I really love her blog and think she has some super interesting and inspiring posts on there. She writes lifestyle, personal, TV review posts and so much more. I like how upbeat her blog is and she has some pretty great advice on there.

Zainab– I really enjoy Zainab’s blog so much. She has a multi-niche blog where she writes about her views, experiences, life and more. I like that her blog is such a positive space. You can also check out her Instagram page.

Shweta Suresh- I’ve been a fan of Shweta’s blog for a very long time now. I’ve been following it from way back when I first started blogging and I have been enjoying it ever since. I love her short stories that usually have an inspiring twist to them. You can also check out her Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr.

Nomison Ndegwa- He has such an inspiring blog and he’s a fellow Kenyan blogger which is always exciting! He has a multi-niche blog with lifestyle, awards and inspirational posts. The majority of his posts are inspirational posts and that’s why  I thought he would be the perfect candidate for this tag.

Xandria- She is such an inspiring blogger I had to add her to the list. She has an amazing multiple-niche blog and a particularly inspiring post of her was the 10 Favourite Feelings Tag which she created to help spread some positivity and remind us of more positive feelings. I was so happy to be part of the tag and I think it was definitely a success. You can also check out her Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Everyone reading this post- I think everyone’s blog is inspiring in it’s own way and I would love for anyone who is reading this post to consider doing this tag and if you don’t want to make an entire post out of it feel free to leave the answers to the questions below in the comments section.

Questions for my nominees

  1. Do you prefer blogging or social media?
  2. What is your favourite post that you’ve published so far?
  3. What is one thing you are grateful for?
  4. What inspires you to continue blogging?
  5. What is one thing you love about yourself?
