Which one is the best in your opinion? Blogging or Vlogging?

Personally I prefer blogging just because WP is such a great platform. YouTube is kind of a messed up place and has too many trolls for me to handle. 

What is the one good thing that you did to someone else?

I try to be as kind as possible so I guess I have tried to help people out as much as I can. And my parents taught us to donate stuff on Christmas and our birthday and New Years so I guess that’s a good thing I do every year. 

What is the one gift that will make you happy?

A million dollars so if anyone wants to send it to me you know how to reach me… lol kidding. I think the perfect gift would be makeup or books- I love them both so much!

One post of mine that you like the most? And why?

I really like your post about how to treat women better when they’re pregnant because it’s genuinely a serious problem especially in brown communities I feel like. I have learnt a lot about what you talk about on the post in detail in Sociology and I hope that over time as a society we are able to treat pregnant women in a more appropriate way. 

Do you think the Covid -19 will end someday?

Someday- yes. Anytime soon- perhaps not.

Leave Me Your Assumptions

What Is An Assumptions Post?

In March, I did my first “ASSUMPTIONS” post and it was so much fun. A lot of my readers told me they had enjoyed it and wanted me to do another one and I honestly had such a great time answering your very interesting assumptions I personally wanted to do another one as well. I had been meaning to do another one again for so long but stuff kept coming up and I could not find the right time to schedule another post like that. However, since I just celebrated 16k followers I thought this would be a fun way to interact with my new followers as well as my older ones!

So, How Does This Work?

In case you hadn’t participated in the last Assumptions post or have forgotten how it works I thought I would leave the instructions here again. So, I got the idea for this from watching some YouTubers do these “assumptions” videos and thought it would be a lot of fun to do on WordPress too. I thought this would be a fun way to connect, start some fun conversations, get to know one another better and just have a nice little virtual get together in the comments section!

Okay so back to how it works. All you have to do is leave an assumption/assumptions in the comments section.

After about five days or so I will publish a post tagging you along with your assumption and will give you an answer as to whether or not your assumption was accurate on the post. For example, if your assumption was “You like potatoes” I’ll answer “yes, I love potatoes” or “nope, I’m not a fan of potatoes I actually love plantains more.”

In case that was confusing to understand because I am the worst at explaining stuff please go see my last Assumptions post and Replying To Your Assumptions post to get a better idea of exactly how it will work.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I needed an outlet and someone I was friends with at the time suggested I take up blogging which I did.

Stop Using Mental Health As An Excuse

A Little History Behind People Using Mental Health Problems As An Excuse

So, a while back I wrote a post called Stop Using Mental Illness As An Excuse To Be Lazy and it addressed the issue of people faking mental health problems to get out of doing things or faking it in order to get special treatment and how this effects people who actually do have mental health problems and require special care. Recently, I saw something similar and thought I would do a follow up to the original post I did.

This Post

I rarely address YouTube drama here, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever done so but recently I started following some “drama” that was just so problematic that I wanted to address it here. It was not only problematic but also something I have experienced personally as well and something that is a much larger issue than just some YouTube videos.

How It All Started

As you know my semester is over and I have some free time on my hands. I have been spending this free time writing, working on my blog, visiting more blogs and more. While I do all this I like to watch something on YouTube in the background and since I watch quite a few videos about mental health I guess my recommended decided to recommend me a video about Trisha Paytas faking having a mental illness. Now if you know Trisha Paytas you know she’s a troll, that’s how she got famous and that’s how she makes her money. She fakes pretty much everything and anything for attention so I was not surprised. Basically she made a video about how “she has Dissociative Identity Disorder” however nothing she describes as her “symptoms” are even actual symptoms of DID. It was so badly researched that I’m pretty sure she hadn’t even Googled what DID was let alone the symptoms. She also went on to call someone who actually has been diagnosed with DID “crazy”, out her ex as having DID and so much more. In the next video she attacks the girl she called “crazy” again and a bunch of other people who are part of the DID community on YouTube who called her out. As of when I wrote this she still hasn’t admitted to lying and continues to pretend to have DID. My Thoughts

Although I was not surprised by her behavior I was very pissed off for multiple reasons. I’m a history major so I really prefer putting my thoughts out in essay form but for the sake of this not turning into a rant post with no structure I will be addressing my feelings in point form.

  1. First of all I feel so sorry for the DID community on YouTube. I can not even imagine how difficult it must be to talk about something so personal in front of millions of people and I am sure that they receive a lot of hate and negativity from trolls as it is. Her behaviour just worsens the stigma that DID isn’t real and that people fake having it for attention. Her videos undo so much of the good other mental health advocates are doing and that is just pure evil.
  2. Calling people who were actually diagnosed as having DID “crazy” also does so much harm. People with mental health problems already face this kind of name calling and discrimination on a regular basis and this is exactly the kind of thing we are fighting against. I mean can you even imagine faking having a mental health problem for clout and then calling people who actually have that illness “crazy.”
  3. One of the biggest problems I had with this situation was the fact that she outed her ex for having DID without so much as giving them a heads up. Telling people you have a mental health disorder is scary enough as it is and being outed in front of millions of people must be terrifying. You should never out someone for having a mental health problem especially not online.
  4. I’ve talked about this multiple times but there is a lot of bias with how mental health problems are treated and how physical health problems are treated. Because mental illnesses may not always be visible people tend to either take advantage of them the way Trisha Paytas is doing or people tend to act like they are not real and just completely deny their existence. I think the fact that she is faking a mental problem and not a physical one is evidence of this bias. YouTube would have likely taken some sort of action against her videos/channel if she had faked having a serious physical illness. I know YouTube censors videos all the time and yet stuff like this stays up.
  5. This whole situation actually has a lot to do with the broader problems faced by the mental health community. Trisha is not the first person to call someone suffering from a mental illness “crazy” or out someone and unfortunately she won’t be the last. She is also not the first person to use mental health issues as an excuse for attention and money. These things tend to happen way more often then they should and it is very saddening. As someone who suffers from an anxiety disorder and depression I see these things all the time and it makes me want to share my experiences and posts like this even more because clearly we have a long way to go before we can break away from the stigma.

Conclusion

I think the only thing we can do in this situation is to keep speaking up against stuff like this as well as share out actual mental health stories. That’s the only way to get rid of the stigma and stop people from taking advantage of something so real and difficult that so many people actually suffer from. I also hope that YouTube does a better job censoring/banning videos like these because they do actual damage to people and can really effect people with actual mental health problems.

Leave Me Some Assumptions

I recently watched some YouTube videos and saw that they were doing something where people comment an assumption about the person and the person replies and answers whether they’re right or wrong. Like for example the assumption could be “you love potatoes” and the YouTuber would be like “yes, I do love potatoes!” or “no, I actually hate potatoes!”
I thought that was super fun and we could do it on WordPress too especially since the ask me something post was so fun to do! Plus, it’s  a great way to get everyone involved and a nice distraction for a bit from everything going on right now. So leave some assumptions down in the comments and I’ll post my answers in a couple of days and of course I’ll link the blogger who left the comment!

What I Eat In A Day

I’ve been watching a lot of what I eat in a day videos on YouTube and thought it would be fun to make a what I eat in a day blog post!
I usually start out the morning with a smoothie or a shake of some kind. I’m one of those people who hates eating early in the morning so having a shake is a really great alternative. This one from Happy Planet has some pea protein in it so it keeps you full too.

I usually have a snack before lunch to get me through the rest of the morning. These days I’ve been having these Cliff bars which are really delicious and of course vegan. I’m not even kidding I’m buying them in bulk they’re that good!

For lunch I typically have something that’s healthy-ish and easy to make. This lunch wasn’t exactly healthy because I used a mix of Dorito chips and more healthy nacho chips. However, it did taste amazing so whatever!

After eating a heavy lunch I wanted something healthier for dinner with lots of veggies so I decided to make some kimchi fried rice. I used the brand Mother-In-Law’s vegan Kimchi and added lots of vegetables and rice along with some other ingredients. It turned out amazing and was exactly what I was going for!

For dessert I decided to have some vegan So Delicious ice cream.

How Many Of My Resolutions Did I Keep

So before this year started I posted a bunch of resolutions that I wanted to achieve this year which is not something I usually do because I’m not a big fan of the whole making resolutions thing but a bunch of other bloggers were doing it and it seemed fun so I thought I would give it a try. So I thought since the year is almost over which resolutions I kept and which ones didn’t work out as planned! To check out the resolutions post click here. 

Make more time for blogging 

This was the first resolution I had on the list and thankfully I have kept it… for the most part. I mean sure sometimes I get lazy or really busy and can’t post regularly but especially recently I feel as though my excitement and inspiration for blogging has really come back and I have been trying to blog at least 5 times a week which has been amazing! It has really helped increase traffic and followers and most importantly it has given me more enthusiasm to write more!

Eat healthier

I started eating a plant-based and much healthier diet. I mean I’m not going to act like I did not eat any junk food because you know I did but I ate healthier junk food and a much healthier diet in general which is what I think counts! I love this resolution because it really made the biggest impact in my life and I genuinely feel better then ever thanks to the changes in my diet!

Write at least one page a day

I tried you guys. I really did. But I’ve been super busy and I just have not had the time or energy to keep up with this one. But maybe next year!

Include new topics on the blog like recipes

I did this one! Okay, I haven’t posted a recipe in a while but I have included a bunch of new topics on the blog and you guys seemed to enjoy them which is awesome!

I’m a history major so a large part of my studies is just reading so I didn’t have a lot of time to read other stuff but I did read a couple of books that I wanted to review which was so fun. Plus, I think it counts as reading even if it’s historical sources and stuff!

New Years Resolutions?

So I usually don’t like to make New Years resolutions because if I want to change something about my life I think I should do it whenever not at a specific time but I understand how a new year can serve as motivation for change for a lot of people and thought I would try it out myself!

I decided to make some goals for the coming year and share them with you guys so we can take the journey together and see if I can stick to them or lose interest in a few weeks…
