Another CBD Oil Update

Background

For those of you who may be new to my blog, I suffer from anxiety and depression. I have tried multiple other things including therapy, medication, dietary changes and more to help with the symptoms. The reason I say cope with the symptoms is because in my opinion a lot of mental illnesses have no permanent cure. I know that it is possible with some but when it comes to depression and anxiety many of us are forced to live with it. The only way we can go back to functioning normally is learning how to cope with the symptoms or attempting to decrease them. That’s what medication generally does- it gets rid of the symptoms.

However, medication did not work for me so I started looking for other alternatives. About two years ago I began using CBD oil in an attempt to decrease or manage my symptoms better. At that point, I had been suffering from depression and anxiety for a few years so I had gotten to a point where I was ignoring the symptoms and just doing my best to live a normal life.

When I first began using CBD oil, I noticed an instant change. I had been using it for a day or two and already I was feeling better. My depression and anxiety had decreased significantly, my insomnia had gone away completely, I could concentrate better, I had more energy and I just felt a lot better in general both mentally and physically.

I shared my experience and then wrote another post with an update a little while after that. Since, I’ve been using it for about two years now I thought I would write another update especially since I mentioned it on a post last week and many people seemed to be interested in CBD oil and a couple of people asked about it or said they would be interested in learning more about it.

Dose/Amount

I usually get asked about this so I thought I would start out talking about how much I take. When I first began using CBD oil I took about three drops every night about half an hour before I went to bed. After using it daily for a while, my brain seemed to be producing more serotonin (this is my guess since it helped me feel happier, more stable, digest food better and concentrate better which is what serotonin does) on its own so I stopped using it every day.

I began using it for two days and skipping the third day. After a few weeks of this, I began taking it every other day. At the moment I take it once every two or three days depending on how I’m feeling.

My body has not become resilient to its effects at all and if anything I need it less often the longer I take it which is great.

Anxiety

The CBD oil really helped with my anxiety and just calming down my brain in general. I have one of those brains that never shut up so I used to be constantly overwhelmed which began effecting my sleep and I began suffering from insomnia due to this. However, CBD oil didn’t exactly slow down my brain but it helped me organise my thoughts better if that makes any sense. Like before, I was going from 0 to 100 in like 10 seconds but with CBD oil I’m a lot calmer.

I have social anxiety so interacting with humans isn’t something I’m great at naturally but CBD oil helped me feel more relaxed which meant it was easier for me to socialise and not be so quiet around people. I actually started interacting with others more, having fun and just enjoyed socialising in general.

I once read someone describing having anxiety as that feeling you get when you’re rocking you’re chair and are about to fall but having that feeling all the time and that was pretty accurate for me. With CBD oil that feeling kind of went away which was nice.

Of course, CBD oil is not some magic cure so I’m still a more anxious person that someone without an anxiety disorder but my anxiety has decreased significantly and the symptoms are manageable enough that they don’t interfere with my life. I still get anxious sometimes but it’s never so much that it stops me from doing what I want to.

Depression

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll mention this again. With depression, I didn’t really realise I was depressed until I started taking CBD oil and the symptoms of depression began to go away. I began to actually enjoy things, had the energy to get out of bed, felt excitement and enthusiasm again and this was a big one- I actually began genuinely laughing again. It was like this cloud over my head had suddenly disappeared. I know it sounds cliché but that’s really how it was.

I began enjoying the small thing again like rainbows and nature. I wanted to create art again, write again and so much more. It was nice to feel enthusiastic again.

Again, CBD oil isn’t a magic cure- I still feel sad or depressed sometimes. I still cry over dumb things. I still don’t want to get out of bed once in a while. And that’s okay. CBD oil has just significantly decreased the symptoms and I can deal with occasionally feeling sad every few months rather than feeling that way every day.

Side Effects

Since,  CBD oil isn’t technically a medication I don’t know if you can call these side effects but I just wanted to mention them because obviously nothing is perfect and some people may experience certain things due to using CBD oil.

I got really great sleep but for the first few months of using CBD oil I did have really vivid dreams. I found them very enjoyable because I love taking notes about all my dreams and trying to analyse them and stuff but I know not everyone would enjoy vivid dreams so this is something I would look out for.

For the first few months, my mouth and eyes were kind of dry which is pretty normal for most cannabis products but if you’re someone who doesn’t drink a lot of fluids you may want to drink more water than you normally do if you start using CBD oil.

Final Thoughts

As I always say on my mental health posts, if you think you or a loved one is suffering from a mental illness or mental health problems please speak to someone and preferably seek professional help. At least get a proper diagnosis first so you can deal with it accordingly.

If you are taking other medications or don’t know how much CBD oil would be the right amount for you make sure to talk to a healthcare professional about it and they will help you figure out what would work best for you.

I know a lot of people talk about CBD oil in order to promote something and I feel like CBD oil has kind of been ruined by annoying influencers trying to push it as some sort of magic cure for everything. That’s why I was so skeptical about it myself. And that’s why I always refrain from mentioning any companies in these posts because I don’t want my posts to be bias. I have been approached by a number of CBD oil brands but I haven’t worked with any of them because I know that if I do the results may be tainted. Even if I consciously try to be unbias I’ll probably subconsciously still be a little bias. I don’t know if that makes any sense because I’m a bit distracted today.

Finally, I would recommend giving CBD oil a try if you are looking for alternatives to medication because I know that not everyone finds medications beneficial and different things work for different people. I can’t guarantee that CBD oil will change your life but it did change mine so I would definitely recommend trying it out. If it works for you that’s great and if not you can try out other things.

5 Ways To Deal With Back To School Anxiety

As you guys know my online classes started yesterday and after reading your posts or some of your comments I know that a lot of you guys are back to school or are going to be starting school soon as well. I haven’t made a post about mental health recently so I thought that I write one today.
I am very happy that school is starting again because it kind of gives me something to do but at the same time it can be quite anxiety inducing for people who suffer from anxiety or even for people who don’t.
I think this year in particular is a bit more difficult because online classes can be a lot different from regular in-school classes and if you do have in-school class that’s probably still quite anxiety inducing since you have to be extra careful.
Here are five ways that will help you deal with your back to school or start of school anxiety:

CBD Oil


I have talked about the benefits of CBD oil previous posts but I wanted to mention it again on this one because out of everything I have ever tried for anxiety I think CBD oil has been one of the main things that have made a significant difference when it comes to anxiety.
Originally, I began taking CBD oil for insomnia as I had a hard time falling asleep and was a very light sleeper. CBD oil helped me sleep a lot better but it also really helped me with my anxiety and depression as well. For those of you who may not have read any of my previous posts I do suffer from anxiety so I was really relieved and happy when I began taking CBD oil.
For those of you students who are able to get CBD oil in your area I would really recommend giving it a try. I personally have found it extremely beneficial for anxiety and I feel a lot more calm about things now. It also helps with concentration which I think is quite helpful as well if you’re a student.
I would like to keep this unbiased so I will also add that CBD oil can be expensive especially if you’re a student because I know that as a student we can have a pretty tight budget most of the time.
I know that most of you have also probably heard about CBD oil all over social media which is super annoying to me. I think CBD oil is actually beneficial but influencers are being paid to advertise it as some kind of miracle cure for everything. It doesn’t work like that plus seeing it advertised makes people more skeptical about using it- I know I was because I was scared it was just a stupid trend. Yes, like I mentioned it is very beneficial for some people but it may not work for everyone because it also depends on other factors like what is causing your anxiety, your lifestyle etc.

Meditation


Meditation is also extremely beneficial for anxiety. It helps you relax and it helps you better control your mind and your thoughts. I personally think the best time to meditate is every morning and evening so that you have a clear mind throughout the day and go to sleep with a clear mind. However, I understand that may not be possible because of your class/work schedule so even if you can fit some meditation in at random times do so.
Meditation is also great in the long run not just for back to school anxiety because it does help to decrease anxiety in general as well. Like CBD oil it also helps with concentration which is great if you’re a student.
I know that meditation can be difficult for a lot of people especially people who have anxiety because our brain literally never shuts up. It does take some time and practice to get used to meditation but it is really worth it when you do. If you are having trouble meditating on your own I would recommend trying out meditation apps that guide you- that way you won’t be able to tune out.

Yoga/Breathing Exercises


Yoga and breathing exercises can also be very beneficial when it comes to anxiety. Yoga helps you to center your body and mind and if you have ever done yoga you know that calm feeling that washes over you as you do yoga. It’s like all your worries kind of melt away.
I think yoga is a great way for students to get some exercise in if you have online classes as well. And more importantly it will help you to reduce your stress and anxiety.
Breathing exercises can also be really helpful for reducing anxiety. There are a lot of breathing exercises out there so I would recommend trying some out and figuring out which ones work best for you. Some breathing exercises can stop panic attacks and even instantly decrease your anxiety completely if done correctly.

Be Prepared


One thing that really personally helps me reduce my anxiety when it comes to university is being prepared. A lot of times I tend to worry even more when I leave things till the last minute and I know a lot of people feel the same way. Instead of leaving things till the last minute be prepared.
Check that your laptop camera is working if you are studying online or check that you have everything you need if you are studying in class. Double check everything if you have to. Read your syllabus and be prepared for your classes. This can really help reduce anxiety.

Seek Help


The last thing I want to mention is that if you are feeling super overwhelmed and like nothing else is working for you please seek professional help. A lot of times anxiety can get a lot worse if not dealt with correctly and instead of making yourself feel worse try to treat the symptoms as early as possible.
Most schools/colleges/universities also offer counselling and other services for people who are suffering from mental health problems so please take advantage of these resources and talk to someone. You can also find both online and in-person therapy sessions in most areas too.
I know it sounds scary to have to see a professional but it’s really not that scary and definitely not something to be ashamed of.

I actually have a funny story about that. I truly felt alive in that moment.

My Small Joys: 

Rain

One of my favourite things in the world is listening to the sound of the rain! I love to just sit in the rain and drink some tea while reading or take a nap because you know you are going to sleep really well while it’s raining outside. I think rain just has a very calming effect on me. 

Another thing I really love about the rain is the way that everything smells so muddy and fresh. I always open my windows to smell that.

Cooking

Cooking is one thing that really brings me a lot of joy. To be honest I sort of hated cooking when I was a child and even as a teenager. I always thought it was a bit too much of a hassle and to be honest I just preferred to eat the food than make it lol. 

However, by the time I was around eighteen years old I started learning how to cook and I ended up really enjoying. I think what sparked my interest was watching a bunch of YouTuebe recipe videos- the food looked so good I wanted to try making it myself! 

Another thing that really made cook a lot more was changing to a plant based diet. I think a lot of foods look so good but are not vegan friendly so I ended up making my own vegan versions of traditionally non-vegan foods and this was super fun because it was a challenge plus I got to try lots of new dishes. 

Eating Something New

As you can probably tell by the amount of posts about food on this blog- I love food. I love cooking food and more than anything I love eating food. Especially new dishes that I’ve never tried before or that I did not eat growing up. I think one of the reasons I like Korean food so much is that it’s new to me. Eating is definitely something that brings me joy. 

Cats

What can I say- I am absolutely obsessed with cats. They are so cute and weird- I can totally relate lol! I think playing with a cat for a while or watching cat videos on YouTube is such a great stress reliever.

Finding The Perfect Foundation

This one may not be relatable to everyone but if you are someone that wears foundation and especially if you are a woman of colour you know the struggle to find an affordable foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly. Thankfully, brands are a lot more inclusive these days but I remember back in the day when I had to mix like three foundations to get my shade. I still mix two when I use my ELF foundation lol. 

But the satisfying feeling you get when you find that one foundation that looks like it was just made for you just hits different. 

Art

Art is something that I have always found interesting because both my mother and my sister are very good at art and my mum used to do a lot of artsy stuff when I was younger. However, I have never been very good at it and I definitely can not compare my work to theirs so I kind of stopped doing art till recently.

During the lockdown I started doing art on apps on my phone and it turned out to be really fun! I think it’s a great way to shut off your brain for a while and just relax. I have really been enjoying doing art and it has also been really great for my anxiety. I have written posts about my art journey that you can check out by clicking here.  

Sleeping In

If you know me you know that I love my sleep. Seriously, if you wake me up I will hate you forever. Like FOREVER. I think one of the best things is when you finally take a day off and sleep in and have a lazy day of staying in and not doing much. It’s such a great way to just relax and get some much needed rest/sleep. 

Doing Nothing

So I have always been one of those people with a very hyper brain and I just constantly need to be doing something otherwise I feel like I’m wasting time. However, over the last few months I have not been able to do a lot of the things I would generally do and it sort of forced me to spend some time doing nothing. I’m pretty glad that I was able to experience that because not I see how vital it is to take some time off and just relax and do nothing. It’s so satisfying and it really helps you prepare for the rest of the week. 

Finding The Perfect Book

As a self-proclaimed bookworm I love reading. I didn’t know if the rest of you guys who like to read ever experience this but sometimes I am just in the mood to read something specific but I don’t know what it is so I start looking at the summary’s of different books till I find one that sounds about right. A lot of times I find books I like but that are not exactly what I was looking for. Other times I find a book that is exactly what I am looking for and honestly it is one of the best feelings ever. 

Stationery 

I have always had this weird obsession for stationery. I’m not sure when it started but as far as I can remember I was always excited to stationery shopping before school starts and buy cute pens, pencils, highlighters etc. And using them for the first time is just so exciting. I don’t know if this one is weird because I do have a lot of weird mini-obsessions but using new stationery or going stationery shopping is seriously the best. 

Finding Pants That Fit 

I know that a lot of people struggle with finding the pants that fit especially if you’re a bit curvy/thick like I am. The ones that fit your waist perfectly and too tight for your thighs and the ones that fit your thighs are too loose for your waist. However, once in a while you find pants that are just so comfortable and fit so perfectly that you never want to take them off. 

Crying

I always have a pretty hard time expressing myself and I kind of stopped crying for a bit which was an awful idea. These days when I feel like crying I just go ahead and cry and honestly it feels great. Once you’re done crying you feel so much more relaxed and at peace. 

Hanging With Friends/Family

I think what I miss most at the moment is hanging out with my friends and family. Spending time with the people you care about is the most precious thing in the world and I will always cherish the memories we made together. I think at the end of the day the thing you remember the most if the memories you made with your closest friends and family. 

Going Out/Travelling

I don’t like going out a lot but I still like to go out sometimes and I always try to pick a place to go that’s unique and fun. I have been lucky enough to make so many memories travelling both in the country and out of the country. Travelling is definitely something that brings me a lot of joy. 

Fall

I just love fall! Not only is it super pretty but it’s also the perfect weather- not too hot and not too cold. I have a hard time in summer because I’m not used to the heat and I love winter but it can be a bit annoying because I use public transport. However, fall is just right so I try to do my travelling/going out when it’s fall. I also love all the drinks that come with fall, wearing hoodies and sweater and cute jackets!

Managing Your Blog While Having A Busy Life

I took a survey/poll a while back and asked what you guys wanted to see on lifesfinewhine or if there were any specific blogging topics you guys wanted to see me write about and one of the suggestions I got was to write on how I maintain by blog while having a busy life.

I am a full time student at university at the moment and as a history major you can image how busy I can get sometimes with all the reading and writing that comes along with history. I also get super busy with blogging because over the last few years my blog has grown quite a bit and it takes a lot more time to respond to everyone and maintain my blog- not that I’m complaining because I truly do love blogging!

Here are some of the tricks I use to manage my blog and my life:

Schedules Are Your Friend

When you have a busy life your schedule becomes your best friend. It’s very important to maintain a balance in your life but without a schedule it becomes easy to become more preoccupied with one thing and ignore the other aspects of your life. In order to avoid this it’s a good idea to create a schedule- it would be best to create daily schedules but if you are unable to do this try coming up with weekly schedules- as this can help you maintain a balance in your life.

If you read my posts on my blogging journey you probably know that maintaining my blog while being a full time student was extremely difficult for me and if was one of the biggest struggles I faced. However, what really helped me with this was scheduling a certain amount of time every day for blogging. This helped me make sure that my blog was not neglected even when I did end up getting more busy with school and life in general and that I was posting on a regular basis.

It may be a bit difficult at first and as a professional procrastinator I was very tempted to take a break or put off blogging but I forced myself to not procrastinate and eventually blogging became a part of my life and now it’s just become a habit to spend a certain amount of time every day on my blog.

Be Proactive

We all have days when we are more busy. If you are a student the days when you have tests, exams or assignments due are the days when you are probably more busy. For people who are not students you may have busier days at work sometimes, if you don’t work at the moment you may have certain days when you have errands to run etc. For days like these it is better to be prepared because things don’t always go as planned and you may be forced to change your schedule a little bit due to circumstances.

What I like to do is keep some posts written in advance and ready to publish for days when I am super busy and may not have time to work on a post. When my fall and winter semester are going on I try to write as many posts as I can over the weekend so that I just have to edit and post them on the weekdays when I have classes and don’t have as much free time.

I would also totally recommend writing shorter posts when you are busy as those don’t take as long and saving the longer posts for when you have more time. I know that my lifestyle posts and my blogging advice posts are usually 1500-2000 words and therefore I like to publish those on days when I don’t have other things going on as I know I will need a certain amount of time to work on them. On the other hand, I know that my six word stories and poetry posts are much shorter so I usually end up doing these when I don’t have as much time to blog.

It’s Okay To Mess Up

Schedules are great, being proactive is great but messing up once in a while is also totally okay. Sometimes life gets busy, sometimes a pandemic occurs and life gets crazy. A lot of things can’t be planned in advance and a lot of times things occur that we may not have expected or foreseen and therefore as great as having a schedule is we may not always be able to stick with our schedule. If something does happen and you are unable to post for whatever reason or you are unable to put as much time into your blog as you had hoped to don’t beat yourself up about it. These things happen to everyone.

I would also recommend taking some time off every week to relax and do nothing because if you force yourself to blog you will end up taking all the fun out of it and feeling really burnt out. You may also end up with writers block. That’s why it’s important to take some to just relax and do nothing for a bit. It could be a few minutes each day, an hour or even one day every week. Just make sure not to force yourself to a point where it starts effecting you negatively or taking a toll on your mental health.

Ask For Help

If you are feeling overwhelmed or if you feel like you need some help with the whole blogging thing make sure to ask for help. This makes your life a lot easier and will save you lots of time. I’ll give you a few examples of what I’ve personally been through to help you get a better understanding of what I mean.

As a blogger you are expected to come up with ideas for blog posts on a regular basis but if you are busy with school or work or just life in general this may not always be possible. However, this is where the asking for help comes in. You can take a poll or a survey and ask your audience what they want to see on your blog and ask for topics they want you to write about. I think it is sort of a win-win for everyone- your readers get to read specific posts on your blog that they want you to write about and you get new ideas for blog posts and save your time and energy by getting ideas for blog posts from your readers. I recently took a survey like this to get some topic ideas and to better figure out what my audience wanted to read on my blog and this blog post was actually one of the ideas!

You can also do Q and A’s, challenges, tags etc which are shorter/easier to write and less time consuming. Plus, it’s a great way to interact with your readers and fellow bloggers.

Sharing Is Caring

This is something I used to do a lot in my first three years of blogging because I did not have a proper schedule yet and I was also extremely busy with school and then first year of university so I did not have enough time to come up with blog posts every day or every other day or once a week. What I would do was I would try to stay active even if I could not post on a regular basis because when it comes to blogging staying active is very important if you want to grow your blog.

I would read other blogs and I would find some blogs that I found particularly interesting or sometimes helpful and I would reblog those. I think this is a really great way to stay active when you don’t have time to write posts of your own and again it’s really a win-win for everyone. The person who’s blog post you shared gets a free backlink and a larger audience since you shared the post with your readers and you get to stay active and post on your blog without having to write an entire blog post of your own. It is a really great way to support other bloggers as well as keep your blog active when you are short on time.

I want to thank Xandria for coming up with this awesome idea for a tag and for nominating me. I think this is such a fun idea because let’s be honest- we could all use more positive things right now. This is a great way to be thankful for all the good things in your life and to remind yourself that there’s a lot of good out there.

My Feelings

Falling asleep while it rains outside

There’s something about the rain that makes me feel really calm and at peace. I always end up having the best nights sleep when it’s raining out and I absolutely love that feeling. I also love the way it smells after it rains- it’s so nature-y (clearly that’s not a great way to describe it but it will do for now…) and I love that.

Laughing with friends

This is something I really miss during quarantine. I’m an introvert and not great at socialising with people I don’t know but I love that hanging out with people I know and am comfortable around. I really miss laughing with my friends and just hanging out with them in general which is why this feeling is on my list.

Playing cards with my family

When I went home last summer we spent almost every evening playing cards and it was so much fun. Nothing compares to the feeling of laughing and having a good time with your family.

Binge watching a really good show

I am a total binge watcher. I hate watching one episode at a time and finding a good, long show to binge watch is such a great feeling. Especially right now- I don’t have much to do except binge watch stuff.

Socialising with other bloggers

Talking to you guys in the comments section/on social media/via email is one of my favourite feelings because it is just so much fun for me. I think the socialising with everyone is my favourite part of blogging for me and the feeling is just amazing.

Reading

Curling up with a good book is such a calming feeling. Reading is one of the best escapes and since I can’t really go out and explore in real life at least I can do it through books!

Imagining going back in time

Okay, this is a weird one but you have to remember I’m a history major… and also a quite weird person… I like to imagine what it would be like to go back in time and just watch all the stuff I learn about (from afar of course because being a POC back in the day would be pretty awful). It’s just exciting for me I guess and also helps me remember the stuff I’m learning better.

Sharing a meal with people you love

As you guys know I’m a foodie and what makes the food better is sharing it with people you love. The feeling of eating a meal together with family/friends is honestly so much fun. Definitely one of my favourite feelings.

When you’re travelling and finally reach your destination

I know people usually say it’s about the journey but when it comes to actual travel I get super sick of sitting in the plane and for me it’s about the destination lol. I like the journey when I’m road tripping though. I love the feeling of finally reaching your destination after a long journey. It’s so exciting!

Having a good cry

This is another kind of weird one but I actually really enjoy the feeling you get after you have a good cry. You feel kind of relieved and refreshed. I think the reason I enjoy this feeling is because I spent a long time thinking crying is bad or showing emotion is bad and holding everything in because I could not express myself. Now if I feel like crying I just go for it and honestly it makes me feel way better to just let everything out.

However, since this is such a positive, fun and simple tag I decided to nominate specific people I felt would enjoy taking part in this as well. However, there is absolutely no pressure to do it of course.
